All The Way From America: Michael Buckley
2008-05-06 07:50:00 I am surprise that Michael Buckley (from What The Buck Show) came over to leave his comment. I had a sudden heart attack and I am serious. HahahaTake not, the alien that had commented me MAY/MAY NOT be the real Buck. He could've been an imposter from nowhere. So anyway, even if Buck isn't a comedian, he is still an entertainer to everyone on Youtube/Media or what shit, yes? A comedian is also considered as an entertainer if he don't know. Whatever he is anyway. All the stuff he does really is annoying and irritating. PERIOD

TV Addict Interview: LIPSTICK JUNGLE Star Robert Buckley
2008-03-20 15:07:00 By: Amrie Cunningham [My Take on TV] Fans of NBC’s LIPSTICK JUNGLE have completely fallen for Robert Buckley, aka Kirby Atwood, aka Nico’s hotter-than-hot man-on-the-side. He has charm, charisma, and isn’t hard to look at! In celebration of Lipstick Jungle’s first season finale, I spent some time chatting with Rob about the show, where he wants to see his character go, and the real reason he was upset that the writers went on strike. I want to just start by saying that I have completely gotten hooked on the show in recent weeks, and I really like your character. Robert Buckley: Oh thank you! It’s funny. I told everyone, all my friends who started watching it, stick with the show because it really picks up momentum. I think we’re seeing it now, a lot more people are tuning in and getting wrapped up in the storyline. They’ve really started to flesh out the characters and you learn more about the characters that have been on the screen. I’m excited at the prospe...

My Encounter with William F. Buckley, Jr. -- With Some Reflections on his L
2008-03-14 05:52:00 by Ernest Partridge The Prince of Darkness is a gentleman. - Shakespeare, King Lear Some forty years ago, I interviewed the late William F. Buckley, Jr. although I had to bribe him to agree. But it wasnt so bad. I bribed him for a song or more precisely, for a couple of Bach lute pieces. At the time, I was a graduate student at the University of Utah, and I also hosted a talk show at a local AM radio station, KSXX. I was a rare liberal among a solid roster of right-wingers. When word got out that Buckley was in Utah to enjoy the greatest snow on earth, the right-wingers at the station fell over themselves trying to grab an interview with the great man. No dice, they were told, Buckley was in-state for a ski vacation, and he took his vacations very seriously. My weekends were also spent on the Wasatch Mountain slopes, and I subsidized this expensive pastime by playing classical guitar weekends at the Alta Lodge. (It was a gas, as we used to say, whereby I ...

Stephen Colbert Discusses William F. Buckley With Richard Brookhiser
2008-03-01 01:13:00 Love that Stephen Colbert. On today's Colbert Report on Comedy Central, Stephen Colbert reminisced about William F. Buckley, aka Bill Buckley (who passed away this week) and how he may have changed modern Conservative thought. I wasn't a Buckley fan, but Colbert's conversation with Richard Brookhiser, Senior Editor of The National Review, was humorous and entertaining.
Buckley on Goldwater and John Birch society
2008-03-01 00:15:00 In a democracy, one shouldn't be angry if one's side loses. One made their argument and one's fellow citizens accepted or rejected it. Better luck next time. Now, one who's side continually loses, faces a dilemma: Either accept one's marginality or come up with an extra-fair reason why one's point of view loses. Thus, conspiracy. Big oil, media, academia, religion, the Knight's Templar: They've all, at one time or another, stuck their hidden hands into history's pie. The left's only slightly fantastic conspiracy theory that George Bush really lost the 2000 and 2004 elections has led to the maddest group of people since the invention of the Cubs fans. Mainstream parties or viewpoints face another predicament as often the same people whose factual impairments discredit one's "side" are the ones most willing to place their time and money at the cause's disposal. Ron Paul, in one debate, cut loose the 9/11 truthers. Bill Clinton cast away racialist Sister Soulja. McCain r...

TIME Magazine's Pee Wee Herman
2008-02-28 20:42:00 Why did TIME mag let creepy perv film critic Richard Corliss skewer William F. Buckley? It's like dispatching Britney Spears to negotiate a NATO treaty. It appears Corliss wrote the drivel with a gerbil up his ass. TIME mag Chickaboomer visited Corliss last year. To wit:Rush Limbaugh huffed and puffed and blew down Time mag's Richard Corliss. Twelve years ago El Rushbo found out Corliss was writing a piece about him. So what did Rush do to de-ball Corliss? He threatened to expose the now-respectable journo's sordid stuff he wrote for the Village Voice. "Confessions of an Ex-Pornologist" where Corliss confessed: ?Like many people, I go to porn theaters to masturbate.? Richard's TIME bio omits his tenure at the Voice. When he was safely ensconced in his career Corliss later wrote a porn piece for Time in which he admitted the VV piece and downplayed his fascination with Linda Lovelace, star of 1972's "Deep Throat": I'm a remnant of the soft-core 60s, a period that established m...

Missing William F.Buckley Jr.
2008-02-28 18:31:00 William F.Buckley Jr. Uniquely American, Catholic and Conservative! RIP 2008 American Catholics have lost a valuable conservative commentator today with the death of William F. Buckley Jr. Over the past 50 years Mr. Buckley has been a keen advocate for the Catholic right and a strong endorser of Catholic moral, social and ethical principles. While he sported a Conservative label and always it seemed wrinkled Brooks Brothers suits his veracious tenacity as a committed pioneer of the Conservative movement, he was always full of eloquence and no nonsense expressions of the Right wing. Perhaps the most valuable loss for all Americans, especially Irish Catholics is his majestic ability to utilize uncommon words and make them part of the vernacular. His socio economic background was of course Irish Catholic, and his strong defense of Catholic principles made him quite the quintessential personification of all aspects of Conservative Catholicism and no-Nonsense American politics. As a stu...
Buckley and Bach: The Firing Line music
2008-02-28 18:19:00 Almost as much as I fantasized about having breakfast with Victoria Principal, I longed to attend one of William F. Buckley's get-togethers- the Elton John after-parties for conservatives. We would have talked, eaten, lit complementary cigarettes from the tobacco industry with $100.00 bills, laughed at the staff's lack of health coverage. No doubt the assemblage of leading lights would have pestered me with questions on the issues of the day, "You're going to have to read it online, Mr. Kissinger- I'm trying to eat." We also would have listened to Bach. For years, Firing Line had as its theme song Bach's second Brandenburg Concerto. Bach, of course, along with Beethoven and Mozart (sorry, Michael Bolton) is one of the top three musical geniuses in music history. Bach was the most "mathematical" of the three, by which I mean the most purely musical in the Pythagorean sense and the least emotional in the Tchaikovskian sense. The counter-melody attack from the second horn is one ...

2008-02-28 16:30:00 There's an odd synchronicity to the death this week of William F. Robert Taft, approached his final days in the early 50s, Buckley ...
Bill Buckley
2008-02-28 14:58:00 I never met Bill Buckley face to face, although our paths crossed here and there and we had several direct and indirect exchanges. I first became aware of Buckley when I heeled the Yale Daily News of which Buckley had been chair, as I eventually became in 1955. Buckley was a legend there — particularly with several permanent staff members who adored him. His senior society, Skull and Bones, was just down the street from the News building. What was apparent of Buckley then was that he was a full fledged racist and bigot. His attack on Sid Lovett, our beloved Protestant Chaplain at Yale, in his notorious God and Man at Yale was as much a Catholic screed as an attack on Sid who had been imprisoned during WW1 as a conscientious objector. We soon became aware of Buckley’s bigotries from the tales told by our adoring staff members. Buckley was particularly anti-Semitic (as well as anti minority, I gather, which I did not learn until he fought desegregation some years l...

November 24, 1925 – February 27, 2008 Quotes, Tributes and Anecdotes In early 1977, Jimmy Carter was just settling into the White House and the conservative movement was preparing intellectually for it’s moment in the sun that would come in 1980. That occurred when Ronald Reagan was elected to the U.S. presidency and Reagan read William F. Buckley. It’s been years since a young then-liberal visited the local library every fortnight to read the latest copy of National Review to learn of the latest goings-on in the then-percolating world of conservatism. National Review was a window into Buckley’s world. It was a world of tight grammar, proper usage of English and the occasional Latin phrase which sent the reader (this one, at any rate) scurrying for a reference. Earlier we ...

Bill Buckley versus Gore Vidal
2008-02-28 04:27:00 Sorry, but this is just too fun. Some points as you watch: 1. The more things change, the more things stay the same: The military-industrial complex. Always the opinion of Western Europe. Big versus small government. 2. The profound wrongness of Gore Vidal: Race riots and revolution- after 1968! 3. The propensity of leftists to call conservatives fascists (crypto or otherwise). Actually, Buckley fought against fascism in WWII. It reminds me yet again of the left's fundamental misunderstanding of the term as Goldberg points out in his book 4. Notice Buckley's prescient 1999 comments on Bush. Liberal Fascism: The Secret History of the American Left, From Mussolini to the Politics of Meaning by Jonah Goldberg Vidal calls Buckley a Crypto-fascist. Noam Chomsky versus Bill Buckley
2008-02-28 02:16:00 Enjoy: Notice Chomsky's assertion that Hitler was a Christian, a statement so contrary to fact that it should, by itself, discredit anyone who utters it. I hope you caught that had Chomsky been in charge instead of Truman or Eisenhower, he would have liberated Greece and Guatemala from American imperialism. No doubt those two nations would have enjoyed the great health care and education that Cuba did. Chomsky didn't mention South Korea, but what's so bad about North Korea? William F. Buckley, Jr., RIP
2008-02-27 22:26:00 Conservative icon William F. Buckley, Jr., has died. Mr. Buckley was 82 years old, vigorous and involved in the world that he nearly single-handedly saved from collectivism. He is mourned, by me among millions, as one of the foundational figures of the modern age. Mr. Buckley famously announced his intention to stand athwart history yelling “Stop!” - and he did so with genius and aplomb, in one way or another, for a career of more than six decades. I will leave it to others to detail the astonishing list of deeds and accomplishments that make up the public aspect of Mr. Buckley’s life (my friend David writes of his effectiveness, for one). In my own life, I found him to be a personal inspiration - a living example of the potential for living a life of the mind and spirit, and enjoying oneself greatly in the process, even in the face of an often vitriolic opposition. (Among my friends to the left, I am already hearing murmurs and mild slanders, albeit among a health...

Conservative Figurehead William 'Bill' Buckley, Jr. Dies At 82
2008-02-27 21:15:00 William F. Buckley, Jr. was, to say the least, a character. A novelist, magazine founder, TV host, and newspaper columnist whose Conservative-dubbed views were said to pave the way for others. WFB attended Roman Catholic school, then graduated from Yale, and served in the military; he was also briefly recruited to the CIA. Buckley died in his home today at age 82. People have mixed feelings for the man who had such strong feelings about politics. Many disliked him; those who agreed with him loved him; and even some that disagreed with him found him fun to watch for his ever-present smile, despite the venom often found in his words.

Dawson on Buckley
2008-02-27 20:45:00 If you haven’t heard the sad news yet, conservative author and commentator William F. Buckley Jr. passed away today at the age of 82 after battling emphysema. Buckley, along with Ronald Reagan and Barry Goldwater, is widely considered to be the father of modern conservatism. Historian Arthur M. Schlesinger Jr. went so far as to call him ?the scourge of American liberalism.? South Carolina GOP Chairman Katon Dawson released the following statement on Buckley’s death: William F. Buckley was an intellectual giant who built the conservative movement and elevated it to the forefront of American politics. South Carolina Republicans are deeply saddened to hear of his passing, but we are eternally grateful for his work. We too join the millions of others who remember Buckley’s life and the great things he did for conservatives and America as a whole. I think my favorite Buckley moment is when he absolutely owned Noam Chomsky during a 1969 debate. It goes without sayin...

William F. Buckley, conservative icon: R.I.P.
2008-02-27 19:41:00 W.F.B. passed away today- God keep him and R.I.P. Like most conservatives, I remember where I was the first time that sweet National Review logic poured into my brain- The Pico Rivera public library. I also remember Firing Line and those wonderful debates, one of which featured a conservative Arianna Huffington. National Review remains the standard reference for mainstream conservative thought and one of my daily web destinations. It would be difficult to overestimate William F. Buckley's impact on modern conservatism. He was one of the first "smart" conservatives in that he argued for conservatism from a sociological and economic perspective using statistics, historical analysis, and other tools that people associate with modern, non-traditional scholarship. The simplest example: Teenage pregnancy is bad because it leads to social pathologies and costs money, not because "God said so." He was lucid and relevant up to the end. I'll miss him. Shed No Tears For Bill Buckley
2008-02-27 19:41:00 I?m sure that, at any moment, our corporate media will go fully into ?dead Diana mode,? as the eternal Molly Ivins once called it, with the passing of conservative icon and godfather William F. Buckley today.Upon hearing that the cause of death was emphysema, I should note that I?m sorry that he went out that way; it?s a horrible way to go. However, that is where my sympathy for Buckley begins and ends.Because, event though he denounced the foreign policy interventionism of George W. Milhous Bush here, Buckley (along with individuals such as L. Brent Bozell) laid the foundation for the conservative moment that drew like-minded individuals through the late ?50s to the present day. Through his frequently obscure literary denunciations of those who disagreed with him as a result of his thin intellectual skin, he crafted the attack blueprint readily adopted by his disciples such as Lee Atwater and Karl Rove, all helping to denigrate our political dialogue by demonizing the opposition an...

I was a great fan of Buckley's politics, intellect, wit, brilliant use of the King's English, distinctive voice, intonation and delivery, and his books. Devoured every Blackford Oakes spy novel. My favorite: "The Story Of Henri Tod." I had the good fortune to meet Mr. Buckley and his now-deceased socialite wife Pat at a WH state dinner in the 1980s. Pat and I parked ourselves in a corner, gossiped, sucked down the booze, and smoked cigarettes when one could still puff publicly without scorn. Mr. Buckley, R.I.P. William F. Buckley Jr.: RIP
2008-02-27 17:31:00 Kathryn Jean Lopez, National Review: I’m devastated to report that our dear friend, mentor, leader, and founder William F. Buckley Jr., died overnight in his study in Stamford, Connecticut. After year of illness, he died while at work; if he had been given a choice on how to depart this world, I suspect that would have been exactly it. At home, still devoted to the war of ideas We lost a great one. Technorati Tags: William F. Buckley Jr.
