Bud Selig Getting Paid...
2008-03-12 22:41:00
Well, Bud Selig, in spite of his foibles on Capitol Hill, the steroid and whatever else is still loved by a certain group -- baseball owners, and they are making sure he gets paid.Bud Selig is the highest paid among the league commissioners of baseball, football, basketball and hockey. Selig was paid $15.06 million for the fiscal year ending Oct. 31, 2006, according to a report in SportsBusiness Journal, a trade publication. Selig's pay represents a 4% increase from the $14.5 million he was paid for the previous fiscal year. The figure was obtained from the tax filings Major League Baseball has made.I know some people about his salary; however, from a business standpoint, he runs an enterprise that generates $6 billion in revenue. His salary is in line or perhaps below what may CEO's, hedge fund operators, and celebrities make -- is Bud's salary deserving?
Bud Selig Earned $14.5 million in 2006 - Am I the Only One Scratching My He

I saw that figure on MLB.com today and I have to say, I was a little surprised. I’d never heard figures for how much the commissioner of baseball made before, but that is obviously a lot of money. Now, I have no idea what a commissioner does on a day-to-day basis, and surely it’s a ...
Greedy Major League Baseball Orders Cape Cod League to Pay Up
2008-03-08 06:10:00
It?s fun to call the New York Yankees the Evil Empire. It?s even more fun to call the Red Sox the new and improved Evil Empire. But we?re missing the mark entirely. The real Evil Empire is Major League Baseball itself. For years, the Cape Cod Baseball league has operated as a not-for-profit baseball league where college players can hone their skills against other major league prospects. The league is run entirely by volunteers. They survive through donations, grants, and merchandise sales. MLB itself usually contributes $100,000 per season to the league. The best part about the league is that it?s completely free to attend a game. People like me, who don?t have the money to take their entire family to a major league game, can bring the entire family and watch a Cape Cod league game completely for free. If there?s another league where you can watch legit major league prospects play for free, I?m not aware of it. According to Eric Wilber of Boston.com, there are over 200 former Cap...
Who Will Be the Biggest Loser? Roger Clemens or Bud Selig and Henry Waxman
2008-02-13 21:45:00
WHO'S ON FIRST?Baseball is a funny thing.  A good baseball fan can simply throw out a group of stats and prove a point.  According to Allen Barra, an expert in baseball and the life of Wyatt Earp (and a friend of mine) Bob Costas has done some numbers crunching.  If Costas is correct about this numbers Roger Clemens did not use steroids.  I have a source in the "know" who thinks Clemens may have taken a little something, but not much, but that McNamee is doing some serious lying.  This person also wants to know why Waxman is even ...

MLB commissioner Bud Selig hopes to decide discipline on Mitchell Report by
2008-01-17 05:12:00
Baseball commissioner Bud Selig hopes to complete his review of players and executives mentioned in the Mitchell Report by the start of spring training in mid-February. One day after testifying before Congress, Selig spoke to owners at the start of a two-day meeting. He did not say whether he would discipline San Francisco Giants officials ...
Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe - Thank Bud Selig - Today is Your Day!
2007-12-15 10:38:00
First, let me say that I hate Pete Rose. He was a great player, but he was also a lying, cheating scumbucket, in my opinion. He disgraced the game, and he was exiled. Shoeless Joe Jackson was a great player, a little thick between the ears, and went along with the gang on the game fixing during the
Bud Selig - The Day to Step Down

Bud Selig should resign today after the Mitchell Commission issues its report on the use of performance enhancing drugs in baseball. The Commish, who brought you the tie game and the faux home run record, is going to get hammered today by Mitchell's group, along with the 80 or so players reported
Bud Selig Is Ruining MLB, At least in FLA

Hi Fans, So the Florida Marlins trade away two potential future Hall of Famers for a gaggle of young prospects. That's Florida Marlins speak for cheap baseball players who they hope will keep their team payroll below $20 million dollars, which is likely to be the annual salary for each of the two
Bud Selig Might Do Something Good
2007-11-07 05:13:00
Good news. It turns out 80% of MLB general managers are able to convince Bud Selig to stop being an idiot. Selig has long been a staunch opponent of instant replay, but after MLB GMs voted 25-5 in favor of exploring its use Selig says he will reconsider his stance. Well, that’s a start. Selig is still concerned about instant replay causing a lot of delays. Apparently he enjoys the delays that occur when managers come out of the dugout to argue calls that have no chance of being overturned, but he thinks the much shorter replay delays that actually accomplish something will ruin the game. If replay is eventually used, at the start it will only be for “boundary calls”—which basically means just for disputed home runs calls. Hopefully at some point “safe or out” calls will be added as well. All of this is good news because it’s insane that there still isn’t instant replay in baseball. What if there had been conclusive evidence that ...
Selig Will Not Punish Giambi [David Stefanini]
2007-08-16 17:00:00
Bud Selig has said he will not punish Jason Giambi for admitting he used steroids. My question to Selig is, why not? Punish Giambi for cheating! I liked Jason Giambi, and he was one of my favorite players. But he deserves to be punished for this. What kind of message is this sending to the youth of the country? "Hey kids, if you use steroids nothing will happen, other than you will sign a ridiculous contract and be one of the richest players in the game." Yup, I definitely will not use steroids because of that message. Selig said Giambi was very cooperative with Senator Mitchell's investigation. Also, Selig wrote to Giambi saying this: "In the days since your interview, your representatives have discussed with my office your commitment to off-field charitable activities. For example, your agent has informed my office that you intend to donate $50,000 to the Partnership of a Drug Free America." There was more mentioning of other charities Giambi donated to, but it made me sick to ...

A Historic Blast --
2007-08-08 17:20:00
Barry Bonds is the new home run king. While his record chase was and will forever be swarmed in controversy, his 756 home runs are not up for opinion or debate. They are fact. And while many can not or will not accept him as legitimately breaking the record, he currently stands alone as the all-time home run leader. Baseball holds more value to their statistics and records than any other sport, and chiefly among those, is the home run record. It is arguably the most sacred record in all of sports, and now the holder of that record, is arguably sports most polarizing figure. Whether it?d be because of his race, or the opinions of him being a poor human being, the fact is that even if it?s never proven that he took performance enhancing drugs, he?ll always be viewed as a cheater. Yet for as phony as some will claim many of his home runs are because of his alleged steroid use, those around the game have acted and reacted equally as phony. For nearly a year, when it became app...
Barry Bonds Breaks the All Time Home Run Record [J. Mark English]
2007-08-08 07:08:00
Call him a villain, call him a cheater, call him a product of his time...or some may even call him a hero. Whatever you call him, now you must recognize Barry Bonds as the all time home run king. Bonds went yard, causing delirium in San Francisco. You can watch the video here.Otherwise here is a write up from the AP... I'd write my thoughts now but I'm too tired from coming home from the Mets loss against the Braves to write anything profound....This is from Janie McCauley of the San Francisco Chronicle:Barry Bonds hit No. 756 to the deepest part of the ballpark Tuesday night, and hammered home the point: Like him or not, legitimate or not, he is baseball's new home run king. Bonds broke Hank Aaron's storied record in the fifth inning, connecting on a 3-2 pitch from Washington's Mike Bacsik. Three days earlier, Bonds tied the Hammer with a shot to left-center in San Diego. "Thank you very much. I got to thank all of you, all the fans here in San Francisco. It's been fantasti...
A Letter To: Bud Selig
2007-08-07 07:46:00
Dear Bud,I'm am writing to you to tell you that you are WEAK. Grow up and quit acting like a little kid. As HR # 755 sailed over the LF wall and the camera paned to you you stood there and dug your hands as deep as you possibly could into those pockets of yours while sporting your very best bitter beer face. You spent so much time deliberating over if you were going to show up to see the record go down and then you do this? Quit half-assing it! Did you really follow him around for 9 games just to stand there with your hands in your pockets like that? I'm not saying you should have screamed, jumped, or even smiled but a small congratulatory clap would have been most appropriate. You are the freaking commissioner! If you are going to show up then come and do more than just stand there and look visibly disgruntled. Accept this, that's what I (along with many other baseball fans) are trying to do. I'm ready to see him hit it. It is happening whether you like it or not so either go a...
Barry Goes After 756; Thoughts on the Record and Bud Selig
2007-08-07 00:12:00
Washington Nationals? rookie pitcher John Lannan is potentially on a collision course with history. At some point, either in the first or second inning, he?ll go toe to toe with Barry Bonds.I don?t know how the youngster feels at the moment, but he?s got a job to do.Well, as we all know by now, San Francisco Giant Barry Bonds hit his 755th home run off the Padres? Clay Hensley in his first at bat on Saturday. As much as people decried that achievement he reached, the world still watched, and Diego?s Petco Park was filled to capacity. No what side of the spectrum you?re on with issue, Mr. Bonds evokes an emotion out of people that few athletes can top.AT&T Park will is sold out completely this week, as Bonds will attempt to break the all-time Home Run record. In watching the game again this weekend, I could not help to notice the reaction on Bud Selig?s face when Barry tied his friend, Hank Aaron?s record. He looked like he was about throw up and did not seem to be enthused at all that he...

Baseball commissioner Bud Selig headed home to Milwaukee on Sunday and is likely to miss Barry Bonds’ next three games. Selig was at Petco Park when Bonds hit his 755th homer Saturday night, tying Hank Aaron’s record. Selig attended the start of Sunday’s game, when Bonds didn’t play, then headed home. Problem Solving Skills
2007-07-26 08:05:00
Right now most bloggers are chiming in on various atrocities in sports right now. In NBA you have betting refs and fixed games. The NFL has dogfighting and MLB has Balco and Bonds' Chase. I'm gunna make it easy for the respective commissioners and (try and) solve their problems as best as I can.David Stern and the NBAI start with you because you have it the worst. I felt bad for you watching the press conference the other day. You're in a tough position that (obviously nobody wants to be in), but you can save your sport. The NBA is on the downslide (in my opinion) and this fiasco could be the dagger unless if something is done. You can't undo what has been done but there must be the maximum penalty to make an example of Tim Donaghy. This whole thing shows how vulnerable not only the NBA is but all sports really are to something like this. Also, from here on out in the future I think that the NBA needs to befriend the casinos. The Casinos are not the enemy here...Donaghy is. Thin...
Bud Selig To Follow Barry Bonds Through 756 Home Runs
2007-07-25 00:34:00
After much debate and delay, Major League Baseball Commisioner, Bud Selig, announced that he will be in attendance when Barry Bonds ties and breaks Hank Aaron’s all time home run mark. Selig will follow Bonds unless it conficts with his previous commitment in Cooperstown for the Hall of Fame induction ceremony. "Throughout this season, I have watched Barry Bonds' pursuit of the home run record.
Bud Selig, Barry Bonds and 756 Home Runs
2007-07-16 22:44:00
There has been great debate about how Major League Baseball and Commissioner Bud Selig should handle Barry Bonds’ becoming the all-time home run leader, specifically whether or not he should attend the historic event. On July 10, 2007, a report from Sports Illustrated by John Haymen said SI had “learned” that Selig would be there “barring something unforeseen and drastic.” Later that same day
Bud Selig quietly endorses MLB growth hormone (HGH) test
2007-07-11 16:16:00
This story quietly slipped by the mainstream media, who is fixated on Barry Bonds career home run record chase and All-Star appearance.  Commissioner Bud Selig talked about an HGH test for MLB (Toronto Star). Commissioner Bud Selig feels that baseball is doing all it can to catch up with cheaters that use the undetectable Human Growth Hormone as a substitute for steroids. "Do I have frustrations about Human Growth Hormone? Yes," Selig said. "Do (our doctors) have frustrations? Yes. Dr. (Don) Catlin's working on tests. There is no test. They went into that with me in great detail. They had heard and read a lot of things which are not true. The Olympics did have tests (for HGH). The results of those tests have not been shown to anybody. They're still sitting with the samples. So, there is no test." Baseball has often been criticized for patting itself on the back about its drug-testing program while cheating goes on under its nose. This information is import...
An Open Letter To Bud Selig
2007-07-11 04:59:00
Bud, I realize that you?re a busy man. As Commissioner of Major League Baseball your job is to make important decisions, drive strategic direction around marketing and rulemaking, work with the owners and the unions, look after the financial picture and much more. I'm sure you have a lot on your
Bud Selig?s Official Statement On Jason Giambi
2007-06-22 00:01:00
Since I am all about press releases right now it seems, Bud Selig has issued a statement about Jason Giambi and the comments he made about his performance enhancing drug usage. Giambi does intend to cooperate and will only speak about his usage. First up is Giambi’s comments: “I alone am responsible for my actions and ...
Fellowship of the Leagues
2007-06-04 22:03:00
Roger Goodell has clearly been eager to mark his territory in the NFL, instituting a player conduct policy that severely punishes anybody who steps out of line. This policy was enacted because the NFL wanted to clean up its image in the wake of Cincinnati prisons becoming housing for the Bengals, and players like Pacman Jones and Tank Johnson having their own problems.Goodell's sudden presence made me think: what would the other traditional professional leagues be like if the commissioners traded places? That is, what if the NFL, NBA, NHL and MLB had to switch commissioners? How would things be different today if Bud Selig ran the NFL, Roger Goodell ran the NHL, Gary Bettman ran the NBA and David Stern ran MLB?- Bud Selig, NFL Commissioner:Due to Selig ignoring the steroid and human growth hormone crisis, players have grown to enormous sizes, and violent hits on kickoff and punt returns have tragically led to their heads flying clean off their bodies upon contact. Revulsed by seein...
