Dana and Buddhists
2008-02-22 17:06:00
Buddhists like to do dana - the act of giving food or robes to the monks. Dana can also mean giving help to others who need it and it can be in the form of money, things, advice or kind words to cheer someone up.Those who give money to help the needy will get back money much more than what they have donated according to the law of karma (cause and effect).Buddhists will become wiser by giving kind words to someone to cheer him up or guide him to the right path. You can even wish that a certain function to be held will be successful. This can constitute dana too.Hence you need not be rich to practise doing dana.

Buddhists terrorizing Muslims?
2007-10-21 22:52:00
Some Buddhists like some Muslims, have been bad apples it seems. I would say Buddhism has a tradition of peace and pacifism whereas Islam has a tradition of peace through submission and vindictive and barbaric retaliation masquerading as justice. But that’s just me. However that still doesn’t stop us from noticing that Islam is another “great” religion ...

Why do Buddhists meditate on death
2007-10-06 07:55:00
I have heard people ask this question before. I’ve even seen friends and relatives turn away in fright when the subject of death meditation comes up. But the purpose of meditating on death is not to be morbid, negative or to induce fear. Anytime you think that Buddhism is being negative, I can guarantee you that you have misunderstand something. Buddhism is about replacing dysfunctional states of mind with functional minds. So the question is really what is the purpose of meditating on death. Generally speaking we are so busy with our lives that finding time to sit down and practice is not an easy task. Even when we really want to meditate, life can get in the road! This is where death meditation come into play as it is a powerful motivating force. Why, because death is final! Once you are dead you aint got no more time to practice…the jig is up! So just as sports people us different techniques to motivate themselves and their team mates, Buddhist use the finality of de...

Plea to protect Jumma Buddhists in B?deshBangladesh Buddhist monks in Sri Lanka yesterday called on the Sri Lankan Government to put pressure on the Bangladesh Government to protect Jumma Buddhists and their lands in that country. They also called on the attention of the international community to their plight. They appealed to human rights organizations to send a fact-finding mission to the Chittagong Hill Tracts to assess the human rights situation in that area. The Buddhist monks also requested the Bangladesh Government to renounce violence, to stop its harmful policy towards the indigenous Jumma people, to stop its repression of human rights activists and indigenous Jumma peoples.?Remember we share a planet with other societies and must learn to live together in harmony. We are different, but not enemies. We have common enemies to fight together such as ignorance, fear, hatred and diseases. The Lord Buddha condemned violence against others in any form whatsoever. Man biologically ...

2007-07-01 03:03:00
The Deputy Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain wants all Muslims to cooperate with police to bring these mysterious criminals to justice, and urges us not to jump to conclusions and create hypothetical problems. After all, the UK and Scotland terror attacks could have been committed by Christians, Jews, Buddhists, or just about anyone. (Warning: the link above leads to Wahhabi propaganda site IslamOnline, and it has that blasted Drive Cleaner virus/advertisement. Beware of clicking.) CAIRO — The Muslim umbrella group in Britain urged Saturday, June 30, all Britons, including Muslims, to fully cooperate with police in their massive manhunt for those behind a foiled double bomb attack in London. “Those criminals must be brought to justice,” Deputy Secretary General of the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) Daud Abdullah told IslamOnline.net over the phone from London.
