Buffalo Bills Sign Terrell Owens
2009-03-08 00:07:00 ESPN’s John Clayton is reporting that the Buffalo Bills have signed disruptive wide receiver Terrell Owens to a one year contract. Buffalo will pay Owens $6.5 million dollars for the 2009 season. T.O. would then become a free agent once again. The Bills become Owens fourth NFL team. He has played for the 49ers, Eagles, and ...

Around the AFC East: Buffalo Bills
2008-06-06 06:15:00 It's Friday, so it's time to go around the AFC East. To kick things off today is Brian Galliford of Buffalo Rumblings: Matty I: You said that you knew it was coming, and here it is. What do you make of this Marshawn Lynch "potential hit and run" situation and how would the Bills cope with losing Lynch for any matter of games? And how big of a distraction is this right now for Lynch and the entire Bills organization? Brian G: It's difficult to discuss at this point because there's so little factual material surrounding the incident. Lynch still hasn't spoken with Buffalo police, who continue to investigate the situation. All I can say is this - the signs are pointing to Lynch being the driver, and if that turns out to be true, he could face up to a year in jail time (it's a misdemeanor crime). The football deities know that I hope I'm wrong on that speculation. All we get from team responses are the generic "no comment" and team media - so the re...

Around The AFC East: Buffalo Bills
2008-05-30 06:16:00 It's Friday, so it's time to again go "Around the AFC East." Kicking us off today is Brian Galliford of Buffalo Rumblings: Matty I: As we inch our way closer to training camp, who is the Buffalo Bill that typical NFL fans might not be too familiar with that we should keep a close eye on in 2008? And conversely, who is the one player on the Bills that probably has gotten too much undeserved national attention? Brian Galliford: While "national attention" is something that Bills players rarely get, a couple of names do come to mind here. Keep your eye on RB Fred Jackson. Marshawn Lynch (deservedly) gets all of the love from the media, but the fact of the matter is that at no level has Lynch ever carried a full rushing load. If the Bills want to get the most out of their best offensive playmaker, they'll limit his rushing load a bit and get him more involved in the passing game (see: Tomlinson, L). If that happens - and many Bills fans hope it does - th...

Around The AFC East: Buffalo Bills
2008-05-23 06:15:00 Last year, to help pass the time of the NFL's "dead season, " we had a feature every Friday until the start of the season called "Around The AFC East." It was a chance to talk about some of our divisional rivals and hear what their thoughts were about the upcoming season. From what I could tell from some comments and a few e-mails, it was rather popular. Well it's back for 2008. Every Friday, each of the AFC East SB Nation sites will exchange questions and comments about carious topics. And though we don't have a Jets blog at the moment, we were lucky enough to get Brian Bassett from the premier Jets site on the net, The Jets Blog, to help us out. So to get us started, let's talk Buffalo Bills. And to do that, we enlist the help of Brian Galliford from Buffalo Rumblings. Below is his response to my question. You can head over to his site to see my response to his Dolphins-related question. Matty I: It seems like the Bills have really add...

Patriots Alumni News: Drew Bledsoe Coffee Roaster
2008-03-14 01:00:00 After a 14-year NFL playing career it didn’t take long for former New England Patriots quarterback Drew Bledsoe to miss the two-a-days during the summer heat. Instead he spent time on his boat on Whitefish Lake in Montana instead of getting knocked around like he did during those 14-years with New England, Buffalo and Dallas. While his NFL friends were sweating through the grueling twice daily practices, Bledsoe had his wife, Maura, take his picture with his feet in the water drinking a beer. He then proceeded to email them the photo with a message attached. “As you can see from this first picture I am maintaining my strict workout regimen,” he wrote them. “You can see here I am alternating some 12-ounce curls with some toe swirls. I generally do these until the bottle gets too light to offer enough resistance then I start over with a fresh one.” Everyday through the first week of camp he followed it up with different photos. Then when camp came and wen...

The Latest in Buffalo Bills Free Agency
2008-03-13 23:54:00 Whew. Good discussion going on today, folks - it's been a whirlwind and a whole lot of fun to see y'all chatting it up. Good day to be a Rumbler indeed. Here's the latest on what's happening with our Buffalo Bills as far as free agency goes: First, an update on WR Bryant "Panda" Johnson - his agent says that he's got three offers and will sign one of them within the next couple of days. The prevailing thought is that two of those deals are one-year offers, and the third is a multi-year offer. That multi-year offer is apparently the Bills' offer. Stay tuned - I've certainly said this before, but we may actually be heading toward a resolution of Panda Watch. As a continuation of The Great DE Debate, the Detroit Lions released veteran Kalimba Edwards today. Edwards was a situational pass rusher in Detroit (under Dick Jauron, no less) and still has enough speed to be a solid fourth defensive end in Buffalo. Personally, I feel he'd be a good investment on a two-ye...
In The Red Zone: Are Patriots Interested In Spikes?
2008-03-07 09:00:00 The Philadelphia Eagles have released 10-year veteran linebacker Takeo Spikes after only one season with the team. The Eagles got Spikes in a trade last year with Buffalo. Spikes was second on the Eagles squad in tackles with 139 last season. A first-round pick by Cincinnati in 1998, Spikes had at least 100 tackles in each of his five seasons with the Bengals. But it wasn’t until he went to Buffalo in 2003 that he got widespread recognition. Spikes had 144 tackles in ‘03 and 111 tackles with five interceptions in ‘04, making the Pro Bowl both years. Even though he has had some injuries in the past the two-time Pro Bowler is a high intensity, motor always running, play making linebacker that Bill Belichick loves. He fits the mold and as a former Bill, the staff in Foxboro is plenty acquainted with how Spikes plays the game. So the question is will the Patriots make a run at him?

2008 Buffalo Bills Free Agents
2008-02-11 14:10:00 Neufeld, others leaving? (BuffaloBills.com) Often times, free agency is overblown in today's NFL. Big names that hit the open market are often times viewed as a quick fix to a problem, and many teams have spent million of dollars on highly-priced free agents only to field a mediocre team the following season. Former Bills GM Marv Levy, however, played to a slightly different tune. It is his belief that some of the more important signings a team can make are re-signing its own players. Which, of course, brings us to this morning's topic. The Buffalo Bills have a long list of free agents this off-season, and there are talks that two to three of its established veterans should be given contract extensions as well. Keeping our community needs list in mind, it's time for us to put our GM (or COO) caps back on and decide which of the following players need to be given new contracts with the Bills. Which players are staying? Which players are moving on? You decide! Under...
2008 Buffalo Bills Salary Cap Situation
2008-02-07 13:27:00 [editor's note, by Brian Galliford] Before we start taking a look at some free agents that the Buffalo Bills might be interested in, we'll examine Buffalo's salary cap situation entering this off-season. User jri111 wrote this excellent post a little over a week ago, and his work deserves more prominent attention. You'll learn a lot if you haven't yet read this post. End Update Okay, this is kind of long, but I have been doing my research and what I am about to tell you about the Bills 2008 salary cap situation might surprise (and excite) you. So buckle in and read closely because this isn't for the casual reader! The idea for this analysis stared in late January after I found myself in an interesting message board conversation over at the stadium wall at twobillsdrive.com. The issue, of course, is the Bills 2008 salary cap space. Early in December, Peter King wrote a MMQB article where he listed all 32 teams' cap space for the '08 season. As of 12/6 he listed the Bi...
Final Buffalo Bills Needs List
2008-02-06 14:06:00 Jauron, staff have plenty of holes to fill (BuffaloBills.com) It took this community a week, but we've finally accomplished our first goal of the off-season: assembling a full needs list for the Buffalo Bills. We've had some fantastic discussions, ranging from philosophical approaches to potential player acquisitions to actual player acquisitions. It's been a fun ride, and it's only the first step of many to come that we'll take this off-season. This list is liquid, meaning that if you continue to have issues with where certain positions stand, feel free to make your arguments heard. We'll continue to tweak this list throughout the off-season, using the list as a reference point for future activities we'll be taking part in. For now (minus letters - numbers only), here's the first edition of the Buffalo Rumblings Community Needs List: 1. Defensive Tackle: Along with wide receiver, this position received the most consistent support community-wide as a top need f...
Buffalo Bills Needs List: Time to Prioritize
2008-02-05 14:18:00 I've said it once, I'll say it again - the Buffalo Bills should be paying this community to do their dirty work. I want to extend a big thanks to the dozens of y'all that have participated in assembling this community's offensive and defensive needs lists - it's been a job well done, and it's sparked a lot of healthy debate about how best to improve the Bills this off-season. Our job isn't over yet. Now that we've assembled needs lists for both sides of the football (note: we won't be assembling a special teams list), it's time for us to consolidate the two lists into one cohesive list. Fun, right? It may not be in a moment - there are some tough decisions to be made here. First, the lists: Offense 1. Wide Receiver - Thanks to some strong support in the polling, wideout has leapfrogged tight end as Buffalo's top offensive need. 1A. Tight End - Still gets the "1A" rating due to strong support in the comments. 3. Guard/Center - Depth needed behind Dockery/Fowler/B...

2007 Buffalo Bills: Season Lowlights
2008-01-03 00:52:00 Losman's demise leaves questions at QB (BuffaloBills.com) Are you an optimist? Welcome to the club; I'd much rather treat you to stories like this than the one you're about to read. But when the Buffalo Bills finished with a losing record for the third straight year - and missed the playoffs for an eighth - you knew we'd have to talk about them. The lowlights of the Bills' 2007 season. So let's get this over with. Earlier today I posted 7 highlights for 7 wins; now, I present you 9 lowlights for 9 losses: #1 - The Kevin Everett Injury. Upon exiting his post as Bills GM, Marv Levy made the case that the Bills need a tight end. Sadly, folks, the Bills lost an athletic presence at that position that the coaching staff felt was ready to blossom when Kevin Everett's spine injury ended his playing career. Yes, the miraculous recovery that Everett has made has been inspirational. Yes, Buffalo will always be a city that has an emotional connection with Everett, no ma...
2007 Buffalo Bills: Season Highlights
2008-01-02 18:27:00 Lynch was Buffalo's best player as a rookie (BuffaloBills.com) The 2007 Buffalo Bills finished with 7 wins and 9 losses. That record was surprising given the incredible amount of injuries the team suffered (17 players on IR at season's end) and the fact that the team, ultimately, was starting rookies at both quarterback and running back. When your football team is as surprising as it was, regardless of statistical rankings et al, there are going to be positives to take away from the season. So here they are. 7 highlights for 7 wins, all related to the 2007 season. #1 - The rookie season of Marshawn Lynch. The Bills featured only one consistent performer this season. No offensive or defensive player was as consistent in both production and value to the team as rookie running back Marshawn Lynch was this season. In just 13 games (he missed three with a high ankle sprain), Lynch amassed 1,299 total yards (1,115 of those on the ground) and took part in 8 of Buffalo's 2...

2007-12-09 13:16:00 38 vs 17 FINAL SCORE Update [2007-12-9 17:30:18 by Brian Galliford]: Wait a minute... the Bills actually played offense today? It's game day once again, Bills fans, and as is the status quo when it comes to the NFL, this week's matchup with the Miami Dolphins marks Buffalo's most important game of the season to date. With huge playoff implications at stake, the Bills must avoid a let-down on their home field and take care of business against a winless Dolphins team that is sure to be scrappy, but just isn't as good as Buffalo. It doesn't matter how it's done - this game just needs to see the Bills climb back above .500 and k...
Preview: Miami Dolphins at Buffalo Bills
2007-12-08 06:23:00 Miami Dolphins (0-12) at Buffalo Bills (6-6) What can you really say about this game? On paper, it would seem like the last realistic chance the Dolphins have at winning a game this year because Buffalo's defense is ranked 30th and their offense is ranked 31st (which we'll get to below). So despite the 6-6 record, you have to think that this may be the best chance the Dolphins have at a victory. Of course, you could have said the same thing last week. And if the Dolphins can't pull off this win, then we are looking at going a full calendar year without a win. That's right. It'll be over 365 days since our last win come Monday morning. No pressure or anything. Dolphins Offense vs Bills Defense The last time these two teams met, the Dolphins only managed 269 total yards, which is about 100 yards fewer than the Bills give up per game. And in that game, it was Jesse Chatman starring in the offense, rushing for 124 yards on 27 carries while also catching 5 passes ou...

5 Good Questions: Buffalo Bills Edition
2007-12-07 06:02:00 As we often do here, I had the chance to catch up with the best blogger on the internet about our opposition this week. Brian from Buffalo Rumblings was good enough to spare some time and answer 5 Bills-related questions. And, of course, I returned the favor. Head on over to Buffalo Rumblings to check out my responses to his 5 questions about the best winless team in the NFL. It should be posted sometime on Friday morning. Now, onto my questions for Brian. What do you think about Trent Edwards? As an outsider, it seems to me that he's going to have a bright future ahead of him. But you see him every week. What are his strengths? Weaknesses? If he's going to realize his potential, he needs to start scoring touchdowns. Yes, he's technically 4-1 as a starter, but two of those wins came against the 3-9 Jets. Bottom line is that Edwards has one touchdown toss as compared to five interceptions; when he's been in at QB (...

If you're watching Madden-style, this is the spot to break down the game as it plays out - and if you don't have an account to do so, just create a free one...
Buffalo Bills at Miami Dolphins: Open Game Thread
2007-11-11 13:23:00 13 at 10 FINAL SCORE The Phinsider :: Dolphins Still Scary :: What Miami Fans are Saying Update [2007-11-11 16:16:14 by Brian Galliford]: They say timing is everything. It figures I'd get access to Buffalo Rumblings back right as Rian Lindell's game-winning field goal is going through the uprights. After struggling with the Dolphins (and networking issues) all afternoon, the Bills (and myself) have pulled through. This is a game the Bills should not have won - but, as the saying goes, a win is a win. Thanks to everyone who commented away during my unexpected absence, and thanks especially to David O for holding down the fort and taking care of the administrative issues. Good stuff from you guys, and good (fourth quarter) stuff from the Bills. Much more to come on the win later on this evening. Another week, another huge game for the (dare I say it?) suddenly resurgent (I said it) Buffalo Bills. No matter your record, each week there is something to prove in ...
5 Good Questions: Buffalo Bills Edition
2007-11-08 06:18:00 Well as we often do here leading up to gameday, I recently got the chance to exchange questions with Brian G from the top Buffalo Bills site on the net, Buffalo Rumblings. Below are his responses to my questions. To check out my responses to his questions, head on over to his site. Even though it isn't likely he plays on Sunday, I'm still curious about your take on how rookie QB Trent Edwards has played. Also, which QB, Edwards or J.P. Losman, is more likely to be the team's QB moving forward into 2008 and beyond? I think fans have been impressed with Edwards due to the fact that the Bills went 2-1 with him as the starter, while the rookie completed nearly 70% of his passes in those contests. For a rookie (those are the key words), Edwards has shown great maturity and poise, and he's been incredible as far as those two aspects of his game go. But he's got a long ways to go - he's still thrown 5 picks to just 1 TD, and he was plenty flustered bef...

Dallas Cowboys at the Buffalo Bills: a metaphor for this country?
2007-11-03 00:00:00 Having watched last night's incredibly bizarre game of Monday Night Football on ESPN, I couldn't help but laugh at the end as Dallas kicker Nick Folk (who happens to be on my fantasy team!) kicked the game winning field goal to pull off an improbable Dallas victory. Not only should Dallas have lost, they should...

2007-10-28 20:14:00 13 at 03 FINAL SCORE Game Preview :: Breaking Down the Jets :: The Jets Blog Update [2007-10-28 18:48:29 by Brian Galliford]: That's all she wrote. It wasn't close to being pretty at times, but a W is a W. Much more on this win later on this evening; I've got a bit of travel time in front of me for the time being. Go Bills! Update [2007-10-28 18:39:23 by Brian Galliford]: After benching Pennington (too late) in favor of Kellen Clemens, the youngster is intercepted by Terrence McGee. Bills ball, 2-minute warning, first down. Ice time for a young team that seems to have finally closed out a game well. Stay tuned, one more update to come... Update [2007-10-28 18:29:36 by Brian Galliford]: WHAT A CATCH! SF-M inexplicably goes long while trying to ice the game, and Losman's pass hangs a bit. But... Lee catches it between two defenders, stays on his feet, and it's an 85-yard touchdown. Less than four minutes remain. Huge play! Update [2007-10-28 18:24:56 ...
Buffalo Bills vs. Baltimore Ravens: Open Game Thread
2007-10-21 15:14:00 vs Buffalo Bills (1-4) vs Baltimore Ravens (4-2) October 21, 2007 @ Ralph Wilson Stadium 1:00 PM ET, CBS BUF Injury Report :: BAL Injury Report Breaking Down the Ravens :: Baltimore Beat Down It's game day, Bills fans! When the Bills and Ravens kick off at The Ralph in 5 hours, you're going to want a place to discuss the game, right? Well, here it is - use this thread to discuss the events of the game, whoop when the Bills score, agonize when the Ravens put up points and curse out Steve Fairchild-Mularkey ("SF-M"). This is your thread today, so have at it! Here's what you can expect to see in this game: Bills on Offense: Memo to SF-M - a conservative game plan is going to get your Bills blown out, Coach. Baltimore is going to stuff the run, come out with some elaborate blitz packages and try to make rookie QB Trent Edwards beat them. That means 4-5 yard dump-offs and nothing beyond 10 yards won't get the job done. However, since I'm a realist, I'm expecting to ...
In The Red Zone - 10/16
2007-10-16 22:50:00 Mike Vrabel was fined $5,000 by the NFL for the late hit in the game against Cleveland. Browns OL Eric Steinbach accused Vrabel of diving at his knees. Can We Give The Rookie Of The Year To Adrian Peterson Early?
2007-10-15 07:09:00 Without a doubt, Adrian Peterson has stuck out head and shoulders above the rest of the the rookie class of 2007. While Marshawn Lynch has done great in Buffalo with his rough style, Peterson is completely blowing defenses out of the water. Adrian is doing what Reggie Bush was supposed to do last year. Like ...

THE BUFFALO BILLS ARE WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE!!!!
2007-10-09 06:13:00 Did this Monday Night Football game seem eerily familiar to you? Last year the Arizona Cardinals beat the Chicago Bears on both sides of the ball, Rex Grossman threw a billion interceptions, but through the grace of god somehow the Bears pulled through for the victory. Tonight the exact same thing happened, only difference is there ...

Buffalo Bills vs. Dallas Cowboys: Open Game Thread
2007-10-08 20:36:00 24 vs 25 FINAL SCORE Game Preview :: Breaking Down the Cowboys :: Blogging the Boys Update [2007-10-9 1:38:31 by Brian Galliford]: Only the Buffalo Bills. I don't need to recap it here - you all know what happened. It was an absolutely electric evening at The Ralph, and our young, big-hearted team still found a way to cough up the W. It hurts, but please note the lack of the term "let down" - very little about this performance was a let-down. Initial reactions to come ASAP. Thanks also to everyone stopping by this open thread; thanks, also, to the Cowboys fans who stopped by for acknowledging that this Bills team had your number this week. Give the Patriots hell, guys. This is it. Monday Night Football is approaching, and with it comes the Bills' stiffest challenge to date in the young 2007 season: beat an undefeated Dallas Cowboys team on a national stage. We've analyzed, we've dissected and we've talked a little trash. It's time to put up or shut up ...

2007-09-30 15:21:00 17 vs 14 FINAL SCORE Game Preview :: Breaking Down the Jets :: NY Landing Strip Update [2007-9-30 17:37:52 by Brian Galliford]: Hey! We won! It was a beautiful day at The Ralph, a beautiful performance by Trent Edwards and the run defense and a beautiful win by our Bills! Welcome to second place in the AFC East, Buffalo! A big thanks goes out to Dock Ellis for holding down the fort in this game thread; much respect, sir! Much, much more to come on this game later on this evening and in the coming days. Go Bills! Week 4 has arrived, Bills fans, and with it arrives the New York Jets. Today, the winless Buffalo Bills look to get that proverbial monkey off their back by gaining their first victory; meanwhile, the 1-2 Jets look to build on last week's win over the Dolphins and pick up their second straight AFC East victory. As banged up as the Bills are after three weeks of devastating injuries, this is their best early-season chance to pick up a victory - so cheer...
Video: News Station Plays Wrong Kevin Everett Footage In Live TV Screwup
2007-09-28 19:16:00 HILARIOUS! News 12 in West Palm Beach, Florida planned to do a quick update on injured Buffalo Bills player Kevin Everett. But as anchor Pat Murphy read his report, someone in production played the wrong footage. Instead of seeing Kevin Everett, viewers were treated to a Suge Knight looking prisoner getting hyphy in his wheelchair. I ...

The Best Worst Team Money Can Buy
2007-09-26 16:06:00 There have more than a few offensive players in the NFL who have underperformed thus far, much to the chagrin of fans and fantasy football players.Three weeks into the season, as the first bye week is among us, it seems like an appropriate time to delve into the realm of repugnant play, and devise a team of the underachieving.QB - Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints: To fully comprehend his awfulness, there is but one stat you need to know. Of the 34 QB's who have started at least two games this year, only two have a worse QB rating than Brees - Rex Grossman and Tavaris Jackson. Brees' stands at 57.1, while Sexy Rexy's is 45.2 and the injured Jackson's is 40.0.Brees' 1 touchdown throw means his TD% (percentage of passes thrown for a TD) is .8%. Only the injured J.P. Losman is worse, with a 0.0 TD%. Even Joey Harrington has a 2.1 TD%. Being compared with Grossman, Jackson, Losman and Harrington is not company Mr. Brees should be keeping.RB - Maurice Jones-Drew, Jacksonville Jaguars: ... |
