Buffalo Grove trustees blink, defer Recall ordinance
2009-10-07 18:45:00
Buffalo Grove Village President (Mayor) Elliott Hartstein, the most popular man in Buffalo Grove and the rock of stability during Recall Wars. Photo from the Village web site, www.vbg.org.The highly regarded Buffalo Grove Village Board of Trustees did a lot of things right, Monday night.  They listened to the concerns about flaws in their proposed Recall ordinance expressed by about a dozen speakers, including me, from the audience of close to 200 residents, and took those concerns very seriously.  Village President Elliott Hartstein persuaded the Board to postpone the effective date of the proposed ordinance to no earlier than January 1st, so that there would not be an immediate rush to try to get a referendum to recall an elected official on the...
Buffalo Grove Village Board to consider re-call ordinance tonight
2009-09-21 11:38:00
Leave it up to those Republican lawyers to find new ways to try to undo elections and, at the same time, cancel the civil rights of citizens, all without cause. Buffalo Grove Village Trustee Jeffrey Berman. From the Village of Buffalo Grove official web site. The Buffalo Grove Village Board will consider the adoption of a Village elected official Recall Ordinance, tonight (Monday, September 21, 2009).  The primary sponsor of the ordinance is Village Trustee Jeffrey Berman, a lawyer and a Republican.  Village trustees run in non-partisan municipal elections, but Trustee Berman has been active in Republican Party politics. I will be there, tonight, to oppose the ordinance.  If you've ever wanted to see me in action as a social justice advocate, tonight's...

Dan Hynes gets it right at Buffalo Grove Days Parade
2009-09-12 00:11:00
Dan Hynes. Photo courtesy of Richard Luchette, Press Assistant to Dan Hynes for Governor This time, the real Dan Hynes showed up, and he was great. In my previous post about Dan, I expressed concern that Dan was a puppet of his handlers at his campaign kick-off news conference, vague and evasive, and was like a kid being dragged around by Mommy and Daddy.  I said that I hoped that this was a one-time fluke. It was. At the Buffalo Grove Days Parade, last Sunday, Dan was back to being his normal, competent, progressive self.  No handlers!  It was just Dan and me, talking about the urgent issues that are facing the State of Illinois, with several dozens campaign supporters, nearby, who marched...

It has shown choppy action since then weathering the bear market very well."The stock is pushing over its recent peak with expanding volume. That indicates good technical action. A key breakpoint would occur at $43.60."The stock's momentum indicator is strongly bullish. The acc...

Buffalo: A Sense of Chicken Wings
2009-06-08 19:58:00
Given "Wing King" Cerza's wonderful success with the National Wing Festival, this is an excellent pick. Here's a comment I posted in Ostrowski's thread, and I'm reprinting here. The United States has evolved over its 200+ year history, and with each election, the social contract changes. Sometimes rightward, sometimes leftward. Never has it gone to either extreme, however. We have never had ...

Run with Buffalo Small Cap (BUFSX)

For those seeking exposure to small caps, Ian Wyatt picks Buffalo Small Cap (BUFSX), an "outstanding small cap fund." Here's the latest from his Recovery Portfolio advisory."The fund, which recenty re-opened to investors, has a track record of profits over the long term and should outperform as small caps continue to lead the market higher during the recovery from the recession and bear market."Small caps have historically outperformed during the years following a recession and bear market. It appears that the market bottomed in early March, and the long-term trend from here will be a recovery in equities."Small caps are already off to the races, posting standout gains since the recent March 9 bottom of the market.  Since then, the Dow has posted gains of 24%. However, the real star has been the Russell 2000, the benchmark for tracking small-cap stocks; it is up 52%."Buffalo Small Cap invests in U.S.-listed companies with market caps ...

Technicians bet on Buffalo Wings (BWLD)
2009-03-24 14:30:00
Two leading advisors -- both known for an expertise in technical analysts -- are bullish on the prospects for Buffalo Wild Wings (NASDAQ: BWLD), which operates and franchises casual food restaurants in 38 states. Here's an overview of the stock from Joseph Hargett, an analyst with Schaeffer Investment Research, and Richard Schmidt, editor of The Stellar Stock Alert.Richard Schmidt explains, "You’ve got to love the action of Buffalo Wild Wings. Last month, the stock jumped up nearly 25% in one day and continued to move up. "The jump up left a big gap on the chart, a bullish sign of strength. And it moved the stock up over the 200-day moving average. BWLD is up over 100% from its November low. "Most restaurant stocks aren’t doing very well. So it’s significant that BWLD is bucking the trend. It shows real strength and growing customer demand."The big jump came on stellar fourth-quarter earnings. The company posted better-than-expected results, ...

Air Crash Near Buffalo, 50 Dead
2009-02-13 14:44:00
Word from just west of Casa de Bit: Clarence, NY (WBEN) – 49 people died late Thursday in the crash of a Continental plane in Clarence Center. WBEN Reporters Barbara Burns and Tom Puckett were both on scene as they learned 44 passengers, four crew and one individual on the ground are among the dead. The plane, flight 3407, crashed into a house on Long Street at approximately 10:20pm. The plane had reportedly indicated it was having mechanical difficulty and lost contact with the tower. As you can imagine, reports here are still a bit sketchy, but we’re now getting word of a 5th crew member being on board the flight, which would bring the death total to an even 50.  Based on the chatter I’m getting from Buffalo radio stations, it appears that what’s happened is an icing incident. As I gather it, the plane was on approach to Buffalo International  from Newark NJ at about 10:30 last night.  Eyewitnesses are saying the plane was making some rather odd noises ...
