Who'd have thought? Lakers pound Bulls
2009-11-20 12:53:00
It was pretty easy to see this one coming except that if you asked me what I saw coming when the Bulls played the Cavs on the road my response would have been the same.   I think the Lakers are the best team in the league.   They were 8-3 while missing their second best player and played us full strength.   So am I surprised the Bulls lost?   No.   Am I surprised it was a blow out?   No....
Bulls Looking For Answers....Bring In "THE ANSWER"
2009-11-19 00:44:00
I know the following blog could be compared to the craziness that is a Sam Smith column, but I want Allen Iverson on the Bulls.  Call me crazy, call me insane, but I believe if you bring in AI, he will be "The Answer" to whom teaches Derrick Rose how to play the game of basketball.  The Bulls kept Lindsey "Old Man Buckets" Hunter on the roster to work with Rose this season and mold him into the player everyone expects him to be.  What knowledge can a 39 year old Lindsey Hunter (2-time NBA champion) pass on to a young budding star like Derrick Rose that Allen Iverson cannot.    My overall view of Derrick Rose resembles a lot of...
Bulls finally break 100 in win vs Kings
2009-11-18 06:11:00
The Bulls defense was again smothering the Kings forcing turnover after turnover when the Kings were trying to make a run.   The Bulls offense was shaky enough to allow the Kings chances to get back in the game, but the big difference this game was the Bulls shot 7 of 12 from the three point line which turned an otherwise tight game into a rout....
Look out for Bears, Bulls and Bud Adams

"Make every play clear the way to victory" Ok, so you root for the Bears. i know you're down in the mouth. I know you see Josh Beekman where the Vikings see Brett Favre and the New Orleans Saints see Drew Brees. Here's a pick me up courtesy of Coppock. No runs, no hits, no charge. Sunday night on the lakefront bet the Bears and parlay with the over against the Philadelphia Eagles. The absolute worst you can do is lose your kid's lunch money.  ...
Chicago Bulls @ Sacramento Kings 9:00 PM WGN
2009-11-17 18:42:00
It's the first game of a five-game west coast road trip, and the Bulls start off in Sacramento where rookie Tyreke Evans and a familiar face in Andres Nocioni awaits them. Chicago, coming off a six point victory against Philadelphia on Saturday, is 5-4 on the year just like tonights opponents. The Kings lost their leading scorer Kevin Martin (30.6 points a game), and have rolled off an impressive four straight, with Evans leading the way. The fourth overall selection has scored 23.7 points during that span, on a surprising 46% from the field....
Iverson to be waived; Bulls won't get him [nor should they]
2009-11-17 01:32:00
Per Yahoo Sports:"Let's be serious." general manager Chris Wallace said in a statement. "We signed Iverson to boost some ticket sales and had no hope of him realistically contributing to this team in a positive fashion.".    "Well, no one else in the league was going to sign me", Iverson replied "and I figured they wouldn't keep me more than a week, so why not collect the $1 million?" Iverson replied.   [/read between the lines]...

Bulls beat 76ers 94-88
2009-11-15 04:06:00
After an absolutely brutal start to the game where the Bulls let the 76ers get all their shots at the rim while looking like a train wreck offensively the Bulls came back and stomped the 76ers.   The Bulls bench dominated this game for the Bulls with Hinrich and Miller both coming up with huge games....
Chicago Bulls vs Philadelphia 76'ers 7:00 PM, CSN
2009-11-14 12:45:00
After a 4-2 start, the Chicago Bulls have lost two straight and heads back to the United Center Saturday to face Andre Iguodala, Elton Brand and the Philadelphia 76'ers. This game carries added importance, as this will be the final home game for the Bulls, before they hit the infamous circus trip.Point guard Derrick Rose struggled against Raptors guard Jose Calderon on Wednesday, looking a step slower on both ends, especially during a stretch where Calderon beat him for three lay-ups in under five minutes. Tonight, Rose will face Louis Williams, a player who has also struggled against quicker players.  ...
Let's be serious, Bulls are off to a great start.
2009-11-13 12:56:00
The Bulls presently sit with a 4-4 record.   There's been a lot of panic over our guards lately, on this blog as well as others.   So I want to take a step back, a deep breath, and ask you to do the same.   Rose, Hinrich, and Salmons are all probably falling short of our expectations right now, but enter the not-so-way-back machine and transport yourself to Oct 26th before the NBA season started....
Will John Salmons opt in?; AKA Are the Bulls screwed?
2009-11-12 13:07:00
When talking about cap space this summer to pursue a max FA, it's always been widely assumed that John Salmons would opt out.   He was playing on an underpaid deal and with all the teams far under the cap, he seemed poised to be able to get a raise, or at the very least break even with a lot more years added on....
Bulls lose to the Raptors, 99-89
2009-11-12 04:46:00
That didn't go so well. Through the first 30 minutes of this game, the Bulls offense took everything the Raptors defense gave them. And the Raptors defense gave the Bulls everything, because, well, they're the Raptors defense. Going into tonight's game, Toronto had given up the most points per game in the NBA, as well as scored the most points per game of any team. That slightly brilliant achievement has only happened once in the NBA, with the 1981-82 Denver Nuggets, and it's probably not a good thing. It would explain their 3-4 record before tonight. So, when the unstoppable force meets the immovable object, who wins? Clue: it wasn't the Bulls. Here's the report card....

Tonight's game could tell the tale on Bulls season
2009-11-11 12:40:00
This Bulls team has laid it on the line and fought a close game every night.  Every night that is, except on the tail end of a back to back in Boston.    Let's be honest, the Bulls have flashed one of the worst offenses in the NBA this far, but they've also shown one of the top defenses.   They're playing with a level of intensity that rivals anything I've seen them do in the post Jordan era....
Bulls lose to Nuggets, officially, but not spiritually
2009-11-11 04:47:00
Balls to Tom Thibodeau. Did the Bulls just play "stifling" defense? They did. The Nuggets had the third best offense in the NBA (per Knickerblogger) going into this game. But they were made to work awfully hard by a resolute Bulls defense that denied anything easy all night long. (Transition excluded.) The start of the third quarter in particular was a thing of beauty. The Bulls starting five took away all the Nuggets' offense that wasn't a post-up from 19 feet away, collapsed in the paint to great effect and prevented any kind of ball moment. They blocked shots from the weak side, reached in effectively, and bodied up so well in the post that they even got a...
Chicago Bulls vs Denver Nuggets 7:00 PM, NBATV
2009-11-10 16:05:00
Carmelo Anthony have so far this season entered the early MVP race by averaging 31.4 points a game as well as emerging as a leader of the Denver Nuggets. The 25-year old small forward has also gotten to the line 12.6 times a game, which has proven as an indicator of his new offensive understanding. The Bulls are coming into tonight 4-2 after a hard-fought win against the Charlotte Bobcats. It required a career game from center Joakim Noah (21 points, 16 rebounds) to acquire the important victory....
Bulls honor wrong guys, Blackhawks don't honor enough
2009-11-10 05:53:00
Something smells rotten in the bowels of the United Center, and it has nothing to do with Chicago's famously pungent sewer system. My last couple of freelance writing assignments took me to the U.C. for Bulls and Blackhawks games, and I couldn't help but notice the life-sized photos on the new "walls of fame" outside the team's respective locker rooms. On the "Blackhawks Legacy" side were Glenn Hall, Pierre Pilote, Tony Esposito, Denis Savard, Stan Mikita, Bobby Hull and Keith Magnuson. Where are Jeremy Roenick and Chris Chelios?...
Why the Bulls offense is bad [realgm post]
2009-11-09 22:39:00
It's not often that I link to a realgm post, but I found this one to be particularly worthwhile:The Bulls are the worst shooting 3 point team in the league by percentage and only 4 teams take fewer 3s per game than the Bulls. No team takes as many 16-23 foot jumps as the Bulls. In fact, the next closest team, Minnesota, shoots 3 (!) less per game than the Bulls. This is even more outrageous when you consider that the Bulls are in the bottom 8 in the league in pace (averaging 2.5 fewer possessions per game than league average), so that a huge percentage of their shots per game are 16-23 foot jump shots. Even more discouraging is...
Vescey: Bulls wildcard in LeBron sweepstakes

Vescey's thrown a lot of crap against the wall over the years, so I can't say I'm getting too worked up about the likelihood of this, but still... What's more, according to someone in the know, LeBron is viewing the Bulls as a wild card challenger; no other suitor need apply....

Bulls win slopfest over Bobcats 93 to 90
2009-11-08 04:30:00
The Bobcats started off hot from the three point line but cooled off in the second half.   Both teams struggled to hang onto the ball, and both struggled to control the defensive glass.   However, in a battle of sloppy execution, the Bulls managed to win by three in a game that would have been over far sooner had it not been for five missed throws down the stretch....
Chicago Bulls vs Charlotte Bobcats 7:00 PM, WGN
2009-11-07 12:31:00
The Chicago Bulls are coming off a scrappy win on the road againt the LeBron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers. Forward Luol Deng contributed 15 points and seven rebounds, with point guard Derrick Rose chipping in 14 and 11 assists. Center Joakim Noah even stood his ground againt future hall of fame center Shaquille O'Neal.Tonight, the Bulls will be home at the United Center to take on Gerald Wallace and the Charlotte Bobcats. Wallace is leading the league in rebounding at 14.8 per contest, though he has just two assists total for the year....
Bulls winning ugly but can they keep it up?
2009-11-06 13:04:00
It's not pretty.  It's not efficient offensively, it's not high scoring basketball.   However, the Bulls stand at 3-2, and so far, everything we saw in preseason has been true in the regular season as well.   The Bulls offense is putrid, unwatchable, scary bad while their defense has been eye poppingly good....
Bulls beat Cavs by 1; Amazingly LeBron does not get the call
2009-11-06 04:50:00
On the final possession LeBron drove, drew minimal contact by diving into someone and just fumbled the ball out of bounds.   He didn't get the call, and the Bulls go on to win.  Complain if you want Cavs fans, but on the previous possession it looked like Deng hit the rim and the Bulls got the board which would have ended the game.   A few possessions earlier, Shaq blocked Gibson by tackling him and didn't get called for a foul.   The refs clearly swallowed the whistle, and they swallowed it for LeBron....

Chicago Bulls @ Cleveland Cavaliers 7:00 PM, TNT
2009-11-05 22:00:00
LeBron James, Shaquille O'Neal and the Cleveland Cavaliers got off to a slow start, dropping their first two games this season. But the team have picked it up since, having rolled off three straight, on an average of 13.3 points a game. The Bulls come off a shaky performance against Milwaukee which concluded with a two-point win for the Bulls due to the strong play of forward Luol Deng who recorded 24 points and a career-high 20 rebounds....

Bulls beat Bucks when they probably shouldn't have done
2009-11-04 04:48:00
Tyrus Thomas didn't play tonight, but given how bipolar the Bulls were, you might not have known it. They beat the Bucks by the truly underwhelming score of 83-81, in a low standard game that a neutral would have phoned up to complain about. It wasn't pretty, but it was enough. The first half of tonight's game was an absolute shocker for the Bulls. They scored only 29 points, trailed by as much as 18, and threw the ball away like a sulking pre-teen. They had 7 turnovers in their first 16 possessions, were boasting 22% shooting with 4 minutes left in the first half, and looked about as natural as a donkey in a trilby. The second half started...

Bulls beat Milwaukee 83-81 in defense-fest.
2009-11-04 04:27:00
This game was a tale of two quarters really.   The first quarter where the Bulls offense was absolutely atrocious, and the 3rd quarter where the Bulls took a huge chunk of Milwaukee's lead away from them. All in all, this game was an excellent representation about my fears with the Bulls.  The offense is just going to be rough while the defense can be excellent.   From the end of the 1st quarter through the 3/4ths of the way through the fourth quarter the Bulls defense was absolutely dominant not allowing anything and contesting everything.   However, over that time, the Bulls still struggled considerably for a large portion because the offense was so bad.   The Bulls held the Bucks to...
Chicago Bulls vs Milwaukee Bucks 7:00 PM, CSN
2009-11-03 21:48:00
The Bulls will be back at the United Center after an 0-2 road trip, and will look to redeem themselves against the Michael Redd-less Milwaukee Bucks.Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose is shooting 37% from the floor over the three-game stretch in the early part of the season. Last year's Rookie Of the Year has been noticeably limited by lack of training and a sore ankle. Tonight, Rose and the Bulls take on their NBA neighbors from Wisconsin, the Milwaukee Bucks. Rookie point guard Brandon Jennings has exploded to the scene over his first two games, and will be a tough assignment for the Bulls' backcourt....
The Bulls will fight an uphill battle on offense all season long

The Chicago Bulls come off a 28-point loss to the Boston Celtics on friday. The Bulls struggled defensively, letting Boston score 97 points in the final three quarters, while connecting on 58.1 percent from on the floor for the game. Once again, Joakim Noah was the bright spot for the Bulls. The third-year center connected on seven of 10 shots, and completed his second double-double in as many games. Noah leads the team in scoring, rebounding, blocked shots and is third in assists....
Bulls won't give Tyrus an extension
2009-10-31 11:00:00
As expected, it's now official: the Bulls won't give Tyrus Thomas an extension, and will let him become a free agent next summer. Per Adrian Wojnarowski: With no more contract extension talks planned with the Chicago Bulls, forward Tyrus Thomas will become a restricted free agent at the end of the season, Yahoo! Sports has confirmed. Bulls general manager Gar Forman and Thomas' agent, Brian Elfus, had discussed broad parameters of a contract extension in recent months, but both sides said there won't be any more talks prior to the Monday deadline. (more at the link) The article states that Tyrus will become a restricted free agent in the summer, and Tyrus himself has said that he'll have his qualifying...
Bulls lose, or something
2009-10-31 06:54:00
The Bulls didn't play last night. Simply didn't happen. No. Nope. Non. Nein. Some people may tell you that they were blown out by the Celtics, losing by roughly 98 points in a lifeless (inter)national TV debacle. Those people are lying. The Bulls didn't play. Instead, they had the night off. Brad Miller led the bench unit on a night fishing trip to Lewiston, Idaho, where Taj Gibson was extremely happy to catch a 6oz perch, and Lindsey Hunter sat around dispensing sage wisdom about things that happened during the mid 50's. The starters, meanwhile, all went out for a light supper together, then went tapdancing together, and then went home to bed. (Not together.) That's all they did. No...

The pressure to win this game, at least from fans, is greatly diminished after winning the home opener against San Antonio.  I can't imagine a Bulls fan being unhappy with a split among those two games. However, the pressure in the locker room is still on due to the revenge factor.   The Celtics mauled the Bulls at time, and I'd bet Tim Donaghy's got a better explanation than the league on why Rondo wasn't suspended....
Bulls totally beat the Spurs
2009-10-30 03:54:00
The Bulls just beat the Spurs. Did you know that was going to happen? I didn't know that was going to happen. But it did. And they looked damn good doing it. The Bulls won 92-85, shooting only 41% from the field, but grabbing 52 rebounds in the game, and holding the Spurs to only 42%. They played a highly effective defensive game, and were good enough on offense, if not spectacular. Most importantly, they beat a team far better than they are. Here's the report card....

Bulls end preseason with another win
2009-10-24 04:52:00
The Bulls beat the Wizards tonight 93-70, closing out their preseason with a 6-2 record. One of the losses was to Orlando, who have been an absolute machine this preseason (8-0, with a huge 37 point win tonight over the Hawks, 123-86), but even with those two losses, the Bulls the third best preseason record in the NBA. The only two better ones belong to last year's finalists, the Magic and the Lakers. That can't be bad. Of course, tonight didn't really count. They weren't playing anybody. The Wizards completely forgot to turn up; as the final score will have alluded to, they were really, really, really, really, really bad. The Bulls weren't great, despite what the big margin of...
Bulls vs Wizards comment thread
2009-10-24 02:01:00
As noted in the post below, the Bulls are short handed.   Not much to be said for this game, the primary thing to watch out for is James Johnson as he should get plenty of playing time.   Taj Gibson, Tyrus Thomas, and Joakim Noah will also be worth a look of course, but we've seen a lot more of them so far....
Are the Bulls bringing Sexy back tonight?
2009-10-23 13:01:00

Not a good week for former Bulls
2009-10-23 07:06:00
My two favourite days in the NBA calendar; draft night and media day. Draft night is incomparably excellent. In one short five hour period - all of which is televised - the entire NBA landscape can change for years to come. There's transactions galore, discussion aplenty, bad jokes all over the place, and multiple opportunities to judge people on their clothing choices and interview techniques, while simultaneously actually learning something about the new players. Media day offers hot two pronged action; not only do we get to laugh at photos of players palming basketballs and scowling, but we're also introduced to the training camp signings, a delicious annual ritual that shows us fans what's on the minds of NBA executives....
Notes from Bulls loss to Orlando
2009-10-20 12:53:00
I have mixed feelings about the Bulls loss to Orlando.  Sure, Orlando played it's starters more down the stretch, but the Bulls played theirs more overall.  The outcome of a preseason game never particularly matters to me, and there's no shame in dropping one to Orlando at any point of the year....
Blackhawks Stealing All The Buzz From Bulls
2009-10-19 23:30:00
There are two teams that call the United Center home. Both are at the start of a long 82-game season. Both have lost their leading scorer from last year (Ben Gordon and Martin Havlat) to a rival (the Pistons and the Wild). Both have stars who recently earned a Rookie of the Year win or nomination (Derrick Rose, Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane and Kris Versteeg). Both teams were ousted from last year's playoffs by their league's defending champion and both are widely considered just a few steps away from being their league's next champion. The two teams that share the United Center have a remarkable amount in common. So why is one team getting all the buzz?...
