Willow burial coffins
2008-02-28 03:00:00 Now this is a subject that most people do not like to talk about, these just had to be shown as a great eco friendly alternative to a regular wooden coffin. They can be made to order within forty eight hours, although this can sometimes be around twenty four hours depending on the specifications required ...
No Space for Further Burials by Feryal Gauhar
2008-01-29 12:04:00 Raza RumiDecades of imperialism have left Afghanistan and its people devastated. But the fall of the Taliban, and the much touted ?liberation? of Afghanistan, has produced a new spate of novels, films and other artistic media dealing with the ?Afghan victim.?And when I say ?Afghan victim,? I mean a nauseating overdose of burqa-oppression, Taliban brutality and other ?Oriental? tragedies. Not only are these subjects sexy ? they tie into the global imperatives of terror and Islamism ? but they also artfully exonerate the ?aggressor,? whether it is the Soviets, US imperialism or NATO. As such, the bulk of this new subgenre of fiction addresses the Western, English-speaking world; writing about reluctant and not-so-reluctant fundamentalists sells ?Over There.? Meanwhile, literature is turning into a grand extravaganza of marketing, prizes, commoditization and short-lived shelf lives.Feryal Ali Gauhar?s second novel, No Space for Further Burials, attempts to break free of many of these s...

The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada - Dir: Tommy Lee Jones
2007-10-25 13:40:00 This one was slightly disappointing after all the previous hype I had seen for the film. The performances are good from Tommy Lee Jones and Julio Cedillo as the eponymous Melquiades Estrada. All supporting cast is spot on and the direction by Tommy Lee Jones is also competent. The film really captures that dusty barren way of life along the Texan/Mexico border. So what's disappointing? Guillermo Arriaga the writer of Babel and 21 Grams wrote this script but for me left it a little bit light, maybe missing something. Maybe it's a film that needs a repeated watch but this is a JM SUCK IT AND SEE for me.
