NASCAR Busch Series in Mexico City this weekend
2008-04-19 21:12:00
This week’s hot-button topic is NASCAR’s annual trip to Mexico City for a Nationwide Series race. Sunday will mark the fourth Nationwide Series race held at the 2.518-mile Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez road course. NASCAR regulars have won each event, but the race is always stocked with international drivers and road-course ringers. NASCAR officials contend the race ...

2008-02-09 23:54:00
The NASCAR Nationwide Series, NASCAR’s second major racing series, which in some cases is also referred to as a stepping series to the Cup Series. For the past year or so, I have been thinking about this subject and in turn reading just what fans, writers, drivers and even owners comments on this subject and after going to Loudon, NH (NHIS) (like I do every year) to watch the Busch Series in action, I believe that there is no doubt that the series needs a new identity not only because Busch is gone as title sponsor and is replaced with Nationwide, but in general, its still too much like the Cup series.First, would be in naming of series, when you look at NASCAR’s other two major series, they both have that non-changeable names, for example, NASCAR’s elite series is the Cup Series and that wouldn’t change even if the series sponsor does – The Winston Cup Series back before 2004, the Nextel Cup Series for the last couple of years and new for 2008, the Sprint Cup Series. In a...

2007-10-11 22:34:00
First up is Nextel Cup: Is it a two-man race for the Nextel Cup going into Charlotte? This question was asked a couple of nights ago on NASCAR Now and I really think it deserves a classic answer, simply put NO way, its not just a two-man race (being last weekends Talladega winner Jeff Gordon leading by 9 points of his Hendrick teammate Jimmie Johnson.). There is still six races left in the chase, I will say that both Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson are had chargers right now and seem to be unbeatable at times, but I wouldn’t count out any driver in the top 6.At this time last season, Jimmie Johnson was a full race out of the lead by -156 points behind Jeff Burton going into Charlotte and we all know he won the championship by 56 points over second place Matt Kenseth. So really any driver that’s around 210 points back, still has a good shot at victory. Really all one of these drivers really need is six races of top 5’s and top 10 finishes. Don’t forget, one blown motor and ano...
Nationwide could become new Busch Series sponsor
2007-10-03 04:25:00
Nationwide is moving into the final stages of negotiations to replace Anheuser-Busch?s Busch beer as title sponsor of NASCAR?s #2 series, sources are telling Street & Smith?s SportsBusiness Daily. Michael Smith of Street & Smith?s SportsBusiness Journal this morning reported in the Daily that Nationwide submitted an offer last Thursday, as did Subway, the sandwich franchise operation that had been considered the frontrunner.Nationwide?s talks with NASCAR progressed over the weekend, the story said, and a contract proposal is believed to be in the legal pipeline at Nationwide. Officials at NASCAR say that it does not have a deal with a new sponsor, but sources say an agreement with Nationwide could be finalized in the coming days.

NASCAR Busch Series to switch models
2007-09-19 23:26:00
NASCAR Busch Series to switch models In an effort to differentiate the Busch Series from the Nextel Cup, NASCAR will be changing the types of cars raced, a new report finds. The next-generation Busch cars — which could appear as early as 2009 — will include the Chevrolet Camaro, Ford Mustang, Dodge Challenger and a yet-to-be-named Toyota model. The switch is intended to give NASCAR's three divisions — the Craftsman Truck Series, Busch Series and Nextel Cup — models unique to their series. The new Busch cars will be built on the old-style NASCAR Nextel Cup chassis. The revival of the muscle car rivalry also seems to pay homage to the SCCA's Trans Am series of the early 1970s when the Camaro, Mustang and Challenger all raced in the same class. Sources familiar with the project said NASCAR has discussed the idea of switching cars with the manufacturers and has received a positive reception for the idea.
NASCAR Busch Series may switch to muscle cars
2007-09-17 21:05:00
Many lament the days when stock cars were actually based on production cars, rather than the new NASCAR Nextel Cup Car of Tomorrow vehicles that merely wear stickers bearing the headlights and grille of their production counterparts. While production-based stock cars will likely never happen again, word is that the NASCAR Busch Series will switch to cars based on the Ford Mustang, Chevy Camaro, Dodge Challenger and yet-to-be-determined model from Toyota as soon as the 2009 season. The world of NASCAR is divided into three series, which include the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, NASCAR Busch Series and NASCAR Nextel Cup Series. The Busch Series has had a bit of an identity crisis lately, though. Meant to be a stage for a up and coming drivers in NASCAR, seasoned vets have taken to racing in the Busch Series as well as the Nextel Cup and usually dominate the podium of the former. While switching to pony cars won't chase away the experienced drivers, it will give the Busch Series a ne...
Ryan Newman Finishes 3rd In Busch Series Emerson Radio 250 at Richmond
2007-09-08 06:38:00
Ryan Newman had a great night in the Busch Series at Richmond International Raceway for the Emerson Radio 250.Newman Ran in the top five almost all night after starting 4th.He fought hard in the final laps to get around Kyle Busch for lead but ended up driving to hard and getting sideways a couple of times. This allowed Carl Edwards to get around him for second and dropping Newman to third. The final laps were a green, white, checkered finish.Kyle Busch led all but 25 laps of the Emerson 250 definetly having the car to beat.Congratulations to Ryan Newman and his #12 Kodak:Think Team for a great job and a top 5 finish.Newman will be starting 4th for the Chevy Rock & Roll 500 Saturday Night at Richmond International Raceway. Newman is locked OUT of the Chase For The Nextel Cup but is still looking for his first win in 70 races. That is a big dry spell that Newman has a great chance of breaking at 7 pm Saturday Night for the Cup Race.

Could AT&T sponsor Busch Series?
2007-09-04 18:35:00
**************** At first I thought this might be a good idea.  Well....for starters this is the only article I can find about this.  So I don't know where this coming from or who is speculating this.  But yeah, get AT&T on board for the Busch series.  Why not??  Advertise like crazy and it will probably drive Sprint/Nextel absolutely nuts!!!   Wait, was this NASCAR's agenda the whole time?  Just to get the Busch Series a sponsor?   And would it be worth it for AT&T to go from sponsoring the #31 Nextel Cup car driver by Jeff Burton, to sponsoring the whole Busch Series.    Maybe Alltel will follow up with the truck series.........NASCAR......Batt-le of the Wireless companies!!!   But.....would it be better for AT&T (or any company) to sponsor the whole Busch Series or 1 car in the Cup Series?????   Following article is from the winston salem journal (who also seems to start all the rumors about Newman jumping ...
Newman's Evening Ends Early In The Camping World 300
2007-09-02 23:38:00
FONTANA, Calif. (Sept. 1, 2007) Ryan Newman, driver of the No. 12 Kodak Dodge Charger, was relegated to a 31st-place finish Saturday night after his car's engine dropped a cylinder with 51 laps remaining in the Camping World 300 at California Speedway.Newman pitted as soon as he noticed the problem to allow the Kodak Dodge team a chance to check under the hood, but when the problem wasnt visible on pit road, crew chief Matt Gimbel told Newman to take the car to the garage. After qualifying fourth for the 150-lap event on Friday, Newmans Kodak Dodge fell back through the field once the race began. However, Newman came on the radio to reassure his team that nothing was wrong with the car. Im just getting a feel for the car, Newman said. Maybe a tick on the free side, but I just want to see how the car feels since this is the first time Im driving it with these changes and the fresh tires. It feels OK right now.An early caution prevented Newman from getting a good feel for his car, bu...

Ryan Newman's Finish of 28th In Food City 250 Is Misleading
2007-08-25 05:01:00
Ryan Nemwan and his #12 Alltel Dodge had a great run in NASCAR's Busch Series race. Newman started 11th in the Food City 250 and ran there or higher for most of the night.Nemwan last time taking fresh tires was on lap 78 and the team decided to go the rest of the race on those tires. Newman was looking to go 172 laps with out taking tires. And he was getting the job done.Newman ended up leading quite a few laps. Toward the end Kasey Kane was coming on srong along with Jason Leffler and David Reutimann. With about 10 or 12 to go Kane caught Nemwan. Kane was on alot newer tires than Newman. Newman was not about to let Kane get by him.Kane kept trying low while Newman was running high....that's right, running high at Bristol. That was also Kanes preffered line.Newman and Kane ended up beating and banging and Kane ended up in the wall for a little while but did not back down and got around Nemwan with 7 laps to go when Leffler and Kane had Newman in a sandwich with Kane high and...

Newman Claims 9th In Busch Series Road Race Finale
2007-08-12 18:35:00
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (Aug. 11, 2007) ? Ryan Newman fought off a tenacious Andy Lally in the closing laps of Saturday's Zippo 200 NASCAR Busch Series race at Watkins Glen International to bring his No. 12 Kodak Dodge Charger home in ninth. It was the second top-10 finish for Newman in five Busch Series races this season. The dual between Newman and Lally erupted with less than 10 laps remaining after Newman forced his way by Denny Hamlin in turn one. Newman, who was 10th when the 82-lap race restarted on lap 73 after the fifth and final caution period, barreled off into turn one under Hamlin with seven laps remaining. Newman's Kodak Dodge slid wide and took Hamlin with it into the paved run-off area. Both kept racing and Newman completed the pass.Newman now focused his yellow No. 12 Kodak Dodge on Lally. The dual began, and as they entered turn 11 on the 2.45-road course, Lally shoved Newman to the outside. Newman kept control of his car and continued down the frontstretch, maintaining...

What was that? The Montreal Busch Series race was a nightmare.

(Photo Credit: AP Photo/Tom Boland,CP)Before I get into some thoughts on this past weekends first Busch series race at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, let me first state something, I am not a fan of Robby Gordon at all and I can?t stand him at all, plus he let?s his short temper and hitting people out of the way get the best of him and that?s it.With that said, I will try and come up with reasonal points about just what should have happened compared to what did happen and as a huge fan of NASCAR, I am disappointed in this Montreal race and there is a lot of blame and wrong calls to go around. If you fast forward to the last four laps of this race since the first 70 laps was just a lot of give and take. With 4 laps to go, Ambrose was leading coming to green and going through turns 1 and down through turn 2 and then Robby Gordon hit Ambrose in the right corner backend just as they went out of frame to come up to make the past on Ambrose, Ambrose then either didn?t see the cauti...

Short track racing at its finest and its Indy, I have always enjoyed watching both the Truck Series and the Busch Series race at Indianapolis Raceway Park, what a hard track to pass on, they say that there's at least two groves, but unlike most short tracks, the fastest way around here is on top, but not on this night as a couple of drivers found the best way to pass was on the bottom. I would have thought that finally this night would have belong to Aric Almirola as he started on pole and dominated early on, but once he was mirrored back in traffic, he just couldn't go no where and that gave Biffle the lead. One thing that caught every one's attention was during the second set of pit stops when during Hornaday's pit stop, the front tire carrier was hit sending him to the ground and the tire flying on to the car that hit him, what a scary hit, the result were a broken toe, glad to see he's OK.Leffler, who was on 50 lap fresher tires at the end of the race battled and in most cas...
