Greg Biffle doubles up as Kyle Busch doubles down in 2nd NASCAR Sprint Cup
2008-09-22 01:22:00 What a way to start the chase, first, fans saw a good race at New Hampshire, that added some much needed excitement to the chase and revealed not only a surprise chase contender in Greg Biffle, but yielded a dominate driver, Kyle Busch to 34th position, so how do you top that one, you enter the concrete high-banked 1 mile Dover speedway, which delivered one exciting race.I would best describe a race at Dover as “heaven and a nightmare all in one lap” and that’s what came out of my mouth, I couldn’t believe it, it all came down to the final 40 laps and normally at Dover, you don’t see more than two cars racing that close together, fighting for the victory, so imagine this race fans surprise, when with 40 laps to go, there was not only two cars racing for the lead, but 5 cars all under a blanket, racing for the victory, you had Greg Biffle, Carl Edwards, Matt Kenseth, Mark Martin and Jimmie Johnson all battle for the lead. I thought for a moment there, Biffle and Kenseth wit...

Kurt Busch not impressed with comeback at Pocono
2008-06-08 21:06:00 LONG POND, Pa. — Kurt Busch slid out of his royal blue No. 2 Penske Racing Dodge after pulling it into a garage stall directly behind his transporter. He was soaking wet and slightly flushed in the face — but after four hours and 500 grueling miles around Pocono Raceway, he was entitled to look that way. But before he met with the media, Busch walked around the front of his car, shaking his head. He stared — almost glaring at it — as he wrinkled his brow before walking toward his hauler, never pausing to look back. “ This was a day when we were given lemons and we turned it into lemonade. ” KURT BUSCH That he had come back from a spin in the race’s first quarter (watch video) that knocked him back to last place to finish eighth, and in the process moved closer in the driver standings to getting into the 12-man Chase for the Sprint Cup field was little consolation to him. His recent record at Pocono, which included two wins and t...
Busch makes history, but Cup leader loses points
2008-06-08 19:06:00 LONG POND, Pa. — When Kyle Busch set out to execute his history-making feat by racing in three NASCAR series events in three different states in three consecutive days, crashing both his Sprint Cup cars and losing 121 points of his lead in the top series was not on the travel itinerary. On the last leg of his racing trifecta at Pocono Raceway on Sunday, Busch made a costly mistake early in the Pocono 500 and made contact with the No. 26 of Jamie McMurray. On Lap 46, Busch came off Turn 3 and squeezed McMurray as they crossed the start-finish line; he lost control and hit the wall (watch video). The No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing machine went straight to the garage where crew members toiled for at least two hours trying to repair right-front fender and internal damage on Busch’s car. On Lap 130, Busch returned to the track in an effort to pick up points, 83 laps down. At the finish of the race, only 21 points remained between Busch and second-place driver Jeff Burton in ...
Kyle Busch to Darrell Waltrip, Dale Earnhardt Sr., plus Toyota having a mec
2008-06-07 04:29:00 There always seems to be that one driver each year that gets everyone’s attention, whether it’s a winning streak, a champion or a driver that just thinks they own the series and for the 2008 season, there is that one driver again that makes headlines, yes I’m talking about the young kid Kyle Busch and considering yet again he is making huge news right now by doing the triple header this weekend, Kyle Busch (pictured on the right - Photo Credit: Chris Graythen / Getty Images via NASCAR PR) has gotten everyone’s attention, of course he had everyone’s attention back at Richmond with him and Dale Jr. getting into it in the final laps. You know, everyone from the media to the fans has their own opinion on this young man and chances are if you say Kyle Busch to a fan, you will most likely get a very interesting and sometimes very colorful response. With that said, with both the media and the fans speaking out about this kid, there have been two questions that have not only caught...

Good pit stops help Busch pull away to easy victory
2008-06-01 21:06:00 DOVER, Del. — Same song, different verse. Points leader Kyle Busch made mincemeat of the competition and a mockery of Sunday’s Best Buy 400 at Dover International Speedway. In a race that stayed green for the final 153 laps, Busch gained a total of 5 seconds over runner-up Carl Edwards on his final two pit stops, built a lead that topped 8 seconds and cruised in his No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota to a 4.225-second win, his fourth of the season and the eighth of his career (watch video). Pole-sitter Greg Biffle ran third, followed by Matt Kenseth, Jeff Gordon and Martin Truex Jr., as only six cars finished on the lead lap. Busch grabbed the lead from Edwards during a cycle of green-flag pit stops that ended on Lap 237. NASCAR called a caution on Lap 243 for debris in Turn 2 — under which the leaders remained on the track — and after a restart on Lap 248, Edwards dogged Busch until both drivers brought their cars to the pits under green on Lap 319. Bu...
Busch outruns Roush drivers to win at Dover
2008-06-01 18:06:00 DOVER, Del. — Kyle Busch revels in his role as NASCAR’s villain. He enjoys his role as the top driver so much more. Busch was simply sensational again, dominating the second half of the 400-mile race Sunday at Dover International Speedway and racing to his Sprint Cup series-best fourth win of the season. Busch made it 10 victories total this season, including two in the Craftsman Truck Series and four in the Nationwide Series. He won for the third time in the last five Cup races. "It was definitely a great race for us there,” Busch said. "We didn’t have the car to beat today.” And when the Joe Gibbs Racing driver doesn’t find himself in Victory Lane at the end of a Cup race, he’s pretty close: Busch earned his fifth straight top-three finish and hasn’t finished outside of the top 10 in any of the last seven races. Team owner Joe Gibbs was in the middle of the celebration on pit road while Busch took a bow from his No...
Busch wins at Lowe’s to snap Gibbs’ victory streak
2008-05-25 02:05:00 CONCORD, N.C. — As the second- and third-place finishing teams confronted each other in the pits, Kyle Busch was taking bows for his fourth NASCAR Nationwide Series victory of the year. Busch won the Carquest Auto Parts 300 Saturday night at Lowe’s Motor Speedway under caution when Mike Wallace’s wreck slowed the race after Busch had taken the white flag for a green-white-checkered-flag finish that took the event two laps beyond its posted distance of 200. Addington a friendly face, fatherly influence for Busch
2008-05-24 20:05:00 CONCORD, N.C. — When veteran crew chief Steve Addington learned Kyle Busch was coming to the No. 18 car, and it would be his job to steer the young driver’s career at Joe Gibbs Racing, he was overwhelmed. Not overwhelmed with trepidation like others may have experienced upon learning they would have to somehow guide and / or corral the energy and tenacity of the 23-year-old self-described wild thing. Not Addington. He was overwhelmed with excitement — he couldn’t wait to get Busch, known for his candor and aggressive, on-the-edge driving style, in the car and get back to the business of winning. “ [Busch] understands that I love doing this and I’m here to win races, and he’s the same way. It’s close to tunnel vision, that’s why we hit it off so well. ” STEVE ADDINGTON "I’ve watched him and saw what he could do in a racecar so I was real anxious to get it started. We knew we would have a shot to win r...
NASCAR All-Star Race – Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards as Kasey Kahne, the fan f
2008-05-18 04:54:00 You know, last month I wrote a controversy article asking the question, should the NASCAR All-Star race be moved? My whole look at this was moving the All-Star race to a racetrack that either doesn’t already have a Cup Series date or only has one Cup Series date. At Least to me, the All-Star is a lot like a Cup date, it’s huge, it for the most part draws in record number of fans and even though I still believe that the All-Star race should be on a short-track like Iowa Speedway (but not that far away), I understand why the all-star race is so successful in Charlotte, it’s home. Over 90% of the teams are located in and around the Concord and Charlotte area, plus Humpy Wheeler does do a good job putting on a good show, now if they could only fix the fall charlotte Cup Series race, maybe that should go instead. So with that said, what an emotional weekend, hats off to Matt Crafton as he picked up his first Truck Series victory in 178 starts, this is for everyone including the fans...

Busch wins Darlington
2008-05-11 05:52:00 PALMETTO STATE’S ONE, ONLY NASCAR RACE GOES TO ANNOYING 23 YEAR OLD Unfortunately, NASCAR’s annual right-of-passage known as the Dodge Challenger 500 at Darlington Raceway didn’t go to TPS’s favorite driver Martin Truex Jr., and it totally sucked this year. Although most of the field earned their “Darlington Stripes,” Nevada’s 23-year-old prodigy Kyle Busch captured the checkered flag to cap off an otherwise uneventful weekend. At a track-record average speed of 140.350 mph, Busch, who led a race-high 169 laps, pulled away after a restart on Lap 308 of 367 and ran away from the rest of the field en route to his third Cup win of the year and the seventh of his career. One week removed from last Saturday’s controversial finish at Richmond, where Busch spun Dale Earnhardt Jr. in a late-race battle for the lead, Busch finished 3.115 seconds ahead of runner-up Carl Edwards and extended his lead in the Cup standings to 79 points over second-...
Emotions, Emotions, Emotions – Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kyle Busch, Denny Haml
2008-05-04 07:06:00 (Photo Credit: Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)So here’s the question of the day (the next day)…What do you consider as a good race and would you consider the Crown Royal 400 at Richmond last night a good race?Racing under the light’s in Richmond is always exciting, a ¾ mile racetrack, a sellout crowd, 43 good drivers and 400 laps makes for an interesting night and race fans, that’s exactly what we got in Richmond regardless of what your personal feelings are after a late race battle turns to a wreck.Like the title says, emotions, emotions, emotions, now let me state the obvious from the start, I am a huge Dale Earnhardt Jr. fan and I’ve been an Earnhardt fan for years now and for anyone who reads my blog regularly, you most likely already know this. As I sit here following the Crown Royal 400 at Richmond blogging on this short track event, I sit with emotions as to what to say about the entire thing. While a good race to me would consist of multi-lead changes, that is not the o...

What should the identity of NASCAR’s Nationwide (formally Busch) Series b
2008-02-09 23:54:00 The NASCAR Nationwide Series, NASCAR’s second major racing series, which in some cases is also referred to as a stepping series to the Cup Series. For the past year or so, I have been thinking about this subject and in turn reading just what fans, writers, drivers and even owners comments on this subject and after going to Loudon, NH (NHIS) (like I do every year) to watch the Busch Series in action, I believe that there is no doubt that the series needs a new identity not only because Busch is gone as title sponsor and is replaced with Nationwide, but in general, its still too much like the Cup series.First, would be in naming of series, when you look at NASCAR’s other two major series, they both have that non-changeable names, for example, NASCAR’s elite series is the Cup Series and that wouldn’t change even if the series sponsor does – The Winston Cup Series back before 2004, the Nextel Cup Series for the last couple of years and new for 2008, the Sprint Cup Series.
