How Business In China Gets Done.
2008-07-22 03:25:00 For those who have never conducted business with China, this post will sound very strange, perhaps even unbelievable. For those who have conducted business with China, this post likely induce feelings of déjà vu. Either way, it is well worth a read because I can all but guarantee (and if I were not a lawyer, I would guarantee) every word is true, no matter how strange it all seems. The post is on the This is China! blog and it is entitled, "How to Waste Space in China." The key takeaway from this is that the goals of your Chinese counterpart might be very different from the goals you would expect. In other words, "This is China!"

Denver' Has Too Many Non-Union Businesses To Capture Convention Business
2008-07-17 18:24:00 According to The Union News, Denver, Colorado, the host of the 2008 Democratic National Convention, has too many non-uniohttp://www.blogger.com/-img/gl.link.gifn businesses to take advantage of all of the available convention business. Chris Lopez, the communications head of the Denver host committee, and in my video, says that:union restrictions and the needs of people planning events might be limiting who gets convention work. For example, printers used by the DNCC must be union shops and there's only a handful of such businesses in Colorado. The Rockymountainnews reports that print shops must be union, but there are scant few in Colorado, so those that aren't don't get work. Well, time for Colorado to "union-up."

Want to get home early from work? Spend some time on looking good !
2008-07-14 09:40:00 Yeah..that's what has been revealed in a recent Synovate survey on beauty. More than 55% of the people think that well groomed and good looking people can get away with less work at workplace than their peers. Now, I have my doubts if this holds true in India ? you can make your judgements :) I?d be more inclined to say that girls do have advantage of being just that ? girls. They do sometimes get away with lesser work at office, and its not only at workplace ! Think about any situation ? lets say you are in a long queue to get tickets. If a girls approaches you saying she is in hurry, most of the you may allow her to go ahead and feel good about it. But if guy approached you, it very unlikely that you will allow him to get ahead of you. Unfair advantage? you take a call !
Making the Tax Bill More Bearable When Selling A Business - Option 2
2008-07-07 23:38:00 So, you?re selling your business and have received the shock from your CPA of how much of the proceeds will be passing directly to Uncle Sam if you don?t implement a tax saving strategy prior to sale.Depending on the type of business you are selling and where it is located, this amount could be between 15-50% and is usually on the higher end of that range. In the last article, the Self Directed Installment Sale was outlined and now another option will be presented. There are so many variables involved with each sale, there is never any one size fits all ?best? option. It is important to work with someone familiar with all options available, so each can be compared and considered for your unique circumstance. If you have the need for an immediate tax deduction, perhaps to offset other gains or simply in exchange for contributing to a non-profit close to your heart, consider a Charitable Installment Bargain Sale (CIBS). Don?t confuse this with a Charitable Remainder Trust (CRT) because ...

7 grand challenges facing IT
2008-07-04 09:13:00 I came across this report by Gartner while writing my previous post. It talks about major challenges faced by IT Industry that have not been resolved as yet. I am reproducing that report here for readers benefit. Here are the seven IT Grand Challenges as identified by Gartner. Never having to manually recharge devices: Today, the ubiquity of portable computing and communications devices powered by battery means that many people would find it highly desirable to either have their batteries charged remotely or their devices powered by a remote source, bypassing the use of batteries altogether. Despite more than 100 years of research since the invention of the Tesla Coil in the late nineteenth century, the most notable progress to date was achieved by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in July 2007 in their experiment to transfer non-radiative power. By this measure, any commercial application of wireless powering still seems a long way off. Parallel Progra...
Novartis (NVS): 'Best pipeline in the business'
2008-07-03 05:00:00 "The pipelines of most Big Pharmas are bone dry; last year, the FDA approved the lowest number of new drugs (19) since 1983," notes Louis Basenese (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=2135), contributing editor to the industry-leading The Oxford Club (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=2135)."Bu-t opportunity always lurks in the wreckage, and one Big Pharma, in particular, is being unfairly punished." Here's his bullish outlook on Novartis (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=nvs) (NYSE: NVS (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=nvs)), which he calls the "only Big Pharma worth owning.""Unlike others in the sector, Novartis doesn't suffer from an empty pipeline. It's launched more drugs globally than any other firm in the past seven years. It has more than 100 projects in phase II (or later) trials. And it expects to file at least six new drug applications this year alone. "Plus, its products cover all bases, from vaccine...
Making the Tax Bill More Bearable When Selling a Business - Option 1
2008-07-02 19:06:00 Hopefully, before selling a business, you meet with a CPA or tax accountant and get an estimate on how much of your proceeds will be going directly to Uncle Sam if you pay them in a lump sum at time of sale. You don?t want to save this surprise for after all is said and done, because not only will it most likely be a shock, but you will have given up your chance to do anything about it.Planning is everything. For this article I will assume you are not doing a 1031 business exchange, that is selling your business and buying another similar business taking into consideration all the IRS guidelines and timelines. It?s pretty rare to see this, but it can defer all of your capital gains tax if done correctly.Depending on how the business is sold, the gains may be taxed as long term capital gain, short term capital gain, ordinary income, etc. and if you are selling an asset in a C-Corp you may face double taxation. So, the idea is to minimize your tax bill and maximize your proceeds no ma...

Foreign Diplomacy, Beijing In 1974, China Business, Respek, And My Friend G
2008-06-25 01:53:00 Tom Plate wrote an interesting column the other day, entitled, "George I: American internationalist," regarding George Bush's (the elder) stint in China as Chief US representative to Beijing. The column actually focuses on the book "The China Diary of George H.W. Bush," recently published by Princeton University Press, which Plate describes as "balanced, prescient and helpful:" During the one year (October 1974 to December 1975) that George H. W. Bush served as the chief U.S. representative in Beijing, the future president thoughtfully scribbled down little jottings of his experiences and worries about the all-important U.S.-China relationship. The jottings have now been strung together into a coherent diary and with deft commentaries by Jeffrey A. Engel, an up-and-coming assistant professor at the Bush School of Government and Public Policy in Texas. The result is a quite readable, most likable and oft-illuminating set of yearlong musings about China and the U.S., about inter...

Monkey business
2008-06-23 23:53:00 BBC says, " A group of Indians are planning to present a statue of the revered Indian monkey God, Hanuman, to Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. The group decided to order the idol after they read a magazine report saying that Mr Obama carried a good luck 'monkey king' charm. Hindus revere monkeys which they believe are descendents of the monkey God Hanuman. The two-foot tall, 15kg gold-polished, brass idol has been made as a present for Mr Obama because "he will be good for India if he becomes the next president," according to Brij Mohan Bhama, leader of the group. "We have heard that he carries a small monkey charm in his pocket. So he is a devotee of Hanuman. That's why we want to present him with this idol," he said. "So has Obama any Christian principles? Not if he carries charms and receives idols. Will he accept the idol and lose Christiam votes or take it to gain Hindu ones?

Why US Business Loves Mass Immigration
2008-06-19 22:42:00 Updated June 20:...And why every American who is not a businessmen should not. This post will show how immigration is great for US business, but it's bad for everyone else in the country. That includes everyone who doesn't run a business, all of you, "What's good for my boss is good for" worker-fools.James Schipper has been laying out some excellent reasons in the comments threads about why immigration does not appear to make much sense for economics or society as a whole. In fact, mass immigration seems to be detrimental to your average person. His arguments seemed logical, but I had hardly heard them before. But then I wondered, if it's so obvious that mass immigration is bad for society and even for average income, why would business and the elites support it?Turns out that business has no interest at all in the average income of workers. In the Third World, they are perfectly content to have millions starving or living in the streets every year, as in India. Or to have 90% of ...

Indonesian central bank may suffer 8.02 trillion rupiah deficit
2008-06-10 09:35:00 The Indonesian central bank may suffer this year a much bigger deficit than last year due to a costly interest payout to holders of its key certificates, local press said Tuesday. Bank Indonesia, the central bank, is expected to suffer a total deficit of 8.02 trillion rupiah (about 861 million U.S. dollars) by the end of 2008, as it has to pay the interest of its certificates. Last year, the bank suffered a deficit of 1.4 trillion rupiah (150 million dollars), reported major newspaper The Jakarta Post, citing central bank chief Boediono. The bank announced that foreign exchange reserves in the first quarter of this year stood at 59 billion dollars due to a rise in exports, but the figure fell to 57.46 billion in May.Indonesia News Blog: http://indosnesos.blogspot.com-

Many Search Engines Gone, Once Was So Many Could Not Even Count Them All, N
2008-06-10 07:13:00 I was submitting my blog to search engines it got me thinking about search engines of the past. Thought about how many search engines was just few years ago now there is mainly just three Google, Yahoo and MSN. The number of search engines once was so many could not even count them all. Now mainly the bigger companies left that power most of the searches on the net. Internet changes so fast.Even with few small search engines still left are not as popular or as powerful those main three. All those search engines probably was a persons dream to create them. Then now having to sell it to a bigger company or to be powered by or now is out of business completely. Anything is possible in life a new search engine could come to be more powerful then them all. It just takes a good idea and a dream with creating a search engine and in life too. - Search Engine Marketing - Get Yahoo! Sponsored Search
