Busy day Wednesday for CTA Tattler and ChicagoNow
2009-08-13 13:00:00 Wednesday was very busy for your CTA Tattler and ChicagoNow. In fact, the whole week has been very busy for the ChicagoNow crew, with the official launch of this cool network of Chicago blogs starting this past Monday.Wednesday was ChicagoNow day at Wrigley Field, where the Phillies crushed the Cubs 12-5. The good news is I got to meet the charming Miss Julie, proprietor of A League of Her Own, a Cubs blog here on ChicagoNow. Julie was live-blogging from a rooftop during the launch party, and I was being the gallant gentleman, getting her food and drinks. She was none too happy about what she had to write about last night, but that happens sometimes to us bloggers. But...
Too Busy....
2009-08-07 21:28:00 Traveling the past two weeks, so this blog entry will try to get me all caught up in one shot. I was home last weekend between trips, my buddy Ryan Brant decided to fish the Celebration OUtdoors tournament on Lake Marion kind of last minute. Neither of us had fished Marion since last summer, but we thought it would be fun none the less. We did not get to practice at all, so we had a couple ideas and decided to start on one of our favorite deeps spots. We fished the area pretty good and only had 1 missed bite. We then tried a few shallow areas, we caught a couple shorts and then I got a good bite on my favorite 3/8oz Green Pumpkin/Brown Tru-Tungsten jig using a 3" Green Pumpkin Chigger craw as a trailer, it ended up being about 3.5lbs. Definitely a good first fish! The next are we fished was a mid-depth area that usually has good coontail clumps, after a few casts I got a decent 2lb fish on my jig and that was the only bite we got there....
Lollapalooza tops a busy weekend -- here's the 411 on how the CTA can
2009-08-07 13:00:00 Summer weekends in Chicago are always busy, and this weekend is no exception. Actually, it IS an exception because this weekend is exceptionally busy: Lollapalooza in Grant Park. Bud Billiken Parade on the South Side. White Sox vs. Cleveland Indians. Chicago Bears Family Day at Soldier Field. Iowa Cubs playing Sunday at Wrigley Field. And all your regular neighborhood fests, etc.Lollapalooza: The CTA will provide more frequent service for the #146 Inner Drive/Michigan Express route to get people home between 9 and 11 pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Of course, the Blue, Red, Brown, Pink, Green and Orange line trains will all get you close to Grant Park. There's no Blue Line work, and longer trains will operate later on...

Busy
2009-07-26 21:55:00 The way things go with this blog and this book is that when long stretches go on the blog without a post, you can usually be assured that something is cooking with the writing of the book.My writer's group is assisting me in diagnosing the problems with my book as the long looked for help in actually editing it is at hand. My significant other is promising to help me with this thing, and as she has been there from the very beginning, her help will be immeasurable. We are however going back to mystery as the launch date begins a countdown.

Frugal Stuff to Read While I'm Busy Bonding
2009-07-18 05:13:00 OK, I'm totally phoning this one in, but remember I've got a 1-week-old baby at home and only get to sleep in 90-180-minute increments. Lately I've lying around reading the paper a lot while snuggling the baby, and here are some frugal tips I've noticed in the Trib and online: Cook Once, Eat Twice in the Chicago Tribune: Cooking large batches to feed the freezer is one of the prime frugal directives, but somehow I never thought of buying two fresh chickens and roasting them both at once. My family's not big enough to plow through a whole chicken in one Sunday dinner, but I would totally be down with cooking a second bird just to carve up into slices...

Less Busy, More Productive ? Is It Possible?
2009-07-14 16:23:00 Our lives seem to be getting busier each day; from the time we wake up, there are endless tasks to be done? work, meetings, emails, errands, chores,.. to many other routine things. Irrespective of all the advice on "Get More Done In Less Time", being busy has become a norm.In reality,Just because you're "busy" doesn't mean you're getting real work done.Being busy creates stress (most of the time), while productivity creates a feeling of accomplishment. Being busy makes time fly. On the other hand, if you are productive, you will be pleasantly surprised at how much you got done. Indeed, there is a very distinct difference between being busy and being productive. To some, That may be a blinding glimpse of the obvious. Yet so many continue to be busy, busy, busy and at the end of the day, you wonder why you have not achieved much; why you are not as productive as you?d like to be.Although you can?t be productive every moment, being aware of the difference between being busy and be...

Busy Bees T-shirt Reminds Me To Bee Happy Every Day
2009-06-12 17:25:00 Bee happy, bee friendly. Honey bees are the most curious and amazing creatures in the world. They happily live in large family groups, work and play together. In a situation where the colony (group of bees) starts to become too crowded, some of the them voluntarily split off and form a new colony; breaks off with the old queen and flies off looking for another place to call home. Easy Relaxation Tips for Busy Women
2009-05-05 02:26:00 It seems like there is no rest of the weary. And, the weary person is usually mom. Moms take care of hearth and home, but who takes care of her? If you are a busy mom, learn to value yourself as a person and schedule personal time.Personal time is a right of being a person. Each of us has the capacity to nurture others but that type of care takes its toll.A car is filled with gas to make it run. Eventually the gas runs out and your car won?t move unless the car is replenished with fuel. The same goes for you. Emotional issues can develop when you don?t take the time to take care of your emotional well-being, not to mention the physical results of emotional neglect.Mom time refuels the tank so that you can give to your family as well as yourself in equal measure. Don?t be ashamed to sit for fifteen minutes doing nothing. In the springtime, relaxing in a hammock under a tree is the perfect getaway from the pressures of the day. Reading a book for 30 minutes can also seem like heaven t...

Why I can't do anything. An essay by Busy Mom.
2009-03-05 15:49:00 The downside to this whole possible Internet addiction thing is that when the whole house goes all Comcastic, you can't even watch TV or use the Internet while you wait for the Comcast guy. In fact, you might even get a little itchy. But, it's then you realize it's because the cable people have effectively removed all excuses for not folding the laundry tundra in the bedroom, yet you're still not folding. You have a dial up account for such emergencies, but then you realize you never installed the program on your new-ish computer, and you need the Internet to do it. Posting from your phone is all well and good if you are under 40 (see also: what I really typed, I wonder) and if you don't live in the sticks and can only get phone reception by hanging out your kitchen door. (see also: winter, it's still kinda here). And that, dear friends is why I can't post, I'm pacing outside the house, I'm not at work and clean laundry is the new carpet.

My Weekend. A short story by Busy Mom
2009-03-02 05:38:00 So, I yammered on the other day about shut up and write, yet I haven't written anything since. If you follow me on Twitter, I'm sure this has become a cliche but I've been at volleyball all weekend. Busy Girl plays club volleyball, this is her first year and wow does this ever take up a bunch of time. Yesterday, our first game was at 3pm, and we got home around midnight. Granted, that time included dinner, which took a while since as parents, we were pretty much obligated to take the coach out for a beer or four after a decidedly "What. Was. That?" performance by our kids. It also included the 35 mile drive back in the snow at 45 mph with my running commentary to Busy Girl about the hazards of driving in snow and ice. I like to tell her I talk about these things because she'll be driving soon (I know!), but actually, I was really tired and the snow was hypnotizing me and I wanted to stay awake to keep from having to demonstrate how to call a tow truck or an ambulance w...

Keeping busy again
2008-12-17 23:17:00 Before I get into my stuff I just heard the latest unemployment figures on the news. Up of course as you'd expect. Now coinciding with the new blitz on benefit claimants, the government have declared war. Not only have they attacked those least able to defend themselves, the sick and incapable, they have done it when the job market is shrinkig drastically. I don't like revenge but believe if someone has to suffer what they do to others it is more like a lesson, or karma. So if Gordon Brown got kicked out, had a breakdown and then had to do tests written by him to claim benefits he may realise what he's actually done. And he knows what he can do with the 2.5% (temporary) VAT decrease. We are being run by heartless sods of all colours politically and would be far better off without them at all. Except possibly Boris Johnson who is moving towards the decent side. There's always one in every pack thank goodness.I've been chasing up old road signs over a week now, and got 30 differe...
YANKEES Are Still Busy...
2008-12-11 18:01:00 From the NY Daily News, just a few minutes ago..."The Yankees have found their center fielder for 2009, as they are set to send Melky Cabrera to Milwaukee for veteran outfielder Mike Cameron on Thursday, according to two major league sources. The Yankees have been saying that Cabrera and Brett Gardner would compete for the center field job, but the acquisition of Cameron gives them a veteran presence at the position. Many believed Cabrera would be the center fielder of the future entering the 2008 campaign, but a disappointing season, in which he hit .249 with eight homeruns and 37 RBIs in 129 games, led many to believe he was destined for a future as a utility outfielder. Yankees blue-chip prospect Austin Jackson is not expected to be ready for big league action until at least 2010, making Cameron the ideal one-year stopgap in center field. Cameron, a former Met, hit .243 with 25 HRs and 70 RBIs in 120 games last season. He will earn $10 million in 2009."Peter here. Big deal, huh? W...

The Thoughts Dripping From My Busy Brain
2008-11-07 19:58:00 Decisions that effect the rest of your life are always the decisions of the young. My decisions only effect dinner. Mandy is still debating her decision between community college and university. She is leaning toward community college. She is also trying to decide her major. She has it narrowed down to becoming a nurse and joining the peace corp or becoming a marine biologist and trying to get a job at sea world training the dolphins. Coincidentally we stumbled upon an intern opportunity this summer studying wild dolphins. I think she is leaning toward the dolphins.I believe Mandy got her spirit for adventure from her father. Maybe all those trips we drug her on while stationed in Europe and Asia have effected her. It is very nice that she has finally getting excited about becoming an adult and actually thinking of options. I love seeing the sparkle in her eye.Little Lily is still doing well in Kindergarten. As all my wise friends advised me, while she is a rebel at home,... |
