A Warrior of Sacrifice May Be about To Get His Due
2009-09-18 14:05:00 For the wagerers among our readership, a real good bet for the lone available forward spot on the Capitals' roster this season is winger Quintin Laing. You could say that he's paid his dues with the organization -- and then some. A 4th round draft pick of Detroit in 1997, Laing broke into pro hockey with the Jackson Bandits of the ECHL in 2000, and it's been mostly bus rides for him ever since. But that's hardly a measure of his present value to the Capitals' organization. Tomas Fleischman's leg injury will briefly open a second roster spot up front, but the opening created by Donald Brashear's departure is for the entire season. That is the one Laing is targeting. Laing first distinguished himself in the Capitals' organization in the 2007 Calder Cup finals with Hershey. It was abundantly clear after game 4 -- a 6-2 win by Hamilton -- that the Cup would be dominated, and won, by Carey Price's remarkable netminding. After game 4 Laing was left with a royall...

Opening Day in Hershey: The Talk Is of Titles, Not Just Playoffs
2007-09-20 23:40:00 (c) OnFrozenBlog - http://www.onfrozenblog.com/ - A week to the day after the Kettler Capitals Complex afforded me empirical evidence of hockey’s return, I headed up Rt. 83 North to take in Media Day and the opening of training camp for the Hershey Bears this morning. Hamilton Bulldogs wins the Calder cup.
2007-06-08 19:23:00 Montreal Canadiens' farm team, the Hamilton Bulldogs have defeated the Hershey Bears 2-1 yesterday evening and won the Calder cup, supremacy emblem of the AHL. The last time the Montreal farm team has won the cup was back in 1985.Goaltender Carey Price has been chosen as the playoffs MVP. The young 1st round draft pick is showing a lot of potential. This year has been an excellent one for Price. He has won the gold medal at the World Junior Hockey Championships and now the Calder cup.The next Habs training camp will be an interesting one to follow. A lot of goaltenders are into the Montreal Canadiens organization right now and at least one of them will be looking for a trade. Christobal Huet, Yann Danis, Carey Price and Jaroslav Halak are currently under contract with the team and will be there for the next training camp.Congratulations to the Hamilton Bulldogs.

Hershey vs. Hamilton: Calder Cup Finals Preview
2007-06-01 19:37:00 How ironic it is to suggest that the 2007 Calder Cup Finals pit the farm clubs for the Caps and Canadiens with history being represented by Washington. Tonight at Giant Center the Hershey Bears, AHL members since 1938, will make their 20th appearance in the Calder Cup Finals, an American Hockey League Record, and face the Habs’-affiliated Hamilton Bulldogs, competing in just their 11th season in the ‘A.’ The Bears, the reigning Calder Cup champions, will try to become the first team to repeat since the 1991 Springfield Indians. The Bears will seek to reverse an eye-opening trend carried off by Hamilton this spring: in all three of their playoff series the Bulldogs have bested higher-seeded teams. They have prevailed the past five weeks with crunch-time courage — Hamilton has won a lot of close hockey games this postseason — and stellar netminding from blue-chip prospect Carey Price. In the American League’s Eastern Conference Finals, Hershey had ...
