2007-10-14 17:45:00 Call of Juarez gets a DX10 enhancement pack - The INQUIRER: "IT TOOK SOME time, but now owners of Call of Juarez residing outside North America can finally get their hands of DirectX 10 version of the game. Under the name Call of Juarez 1.1.1.0 - DX10 Enhancement Pack, Techland.pl released a bonus pack that claims to bring full support for DirectX 10 API. It promises improved Windows Vista support, massively improved visuals (similar to ones from the benchmark), an in-game benchmark mode, improved animations and stealth levels. Also, quite a lot of bugs were squashed with this one. This Pack reminded us of all those Enhancement packs that came out for Far Cry, which is a really good way to raise interest for your title once that first batch of sales has been completed. 2007-06-23 01:20:00 The Western genre has yet to really have a breakout game that goes above and beyond. You have to give Polish developer Techland credit because they really tried with Call of Juarez. There are some interesting design and gameplay choices that make the game a bit more fun than it has a right to be. Ultimately the execution is a bit bland and no amount of clichés or whores in compromising situations can rectify the few problems that prevent CoJ’s ascension to greatness. The world of Juarez is seen through the eyes of Europeans looking at America’s past, and like Spaghetti Westerns is a highly stylized view of life in the Old West. Seriously, you use a Bible as a weapon. How frickin’ cool – and American – is that? In Call of Juarez you don’t play as a single lead character. In a brilliant design choice Techland has you playing the young Billy Candle as well as the man chasing him down, Reverend Ray.
