Sanyo unveils new line of HD surveillance cameras
2009-09-23 15:02:00
internet marketing Sanyo will be bringing in a total of nine new surveillance cameras Stateside, and what makes them special is the fact that they are able to record proceedings in High Definition format – which is a logical step in the right direction, considering the rising crime rate these days and the use of video surveillance to help solve those cases by identifying faces, words as well as providing detail not seen with the human eye long after the event has happened. These nine new HD surveillance cameras are able to offer up to 4MP MJPEG and Full High Definition video for critical security monitoring, making them the first of such a lineup in the world with multi-streaming H.264 and MJPEG codecs. They will come in a quartet of form factors including Box, Dome, Zoom and PTZ. Inside these cameras, you will find twin engine incorporating new “Xacti HD-Pro” and “Optimum IP-Pro” technologies that provide for more power and a smoother operating environment. All mode...
Hdv cameras
2009-09-21 22:22:00
The most interesting question is: Why does a smaller, hdv tuner, AVCHD camera with, say, a chip that is 1/6″ in size, with over a million pixels packed onto it. have differences, both good and bad, versus a chip that is 2/3″ in size, but is only considered standard-definition with about 320.000 pixels? In a small, high-definition-resolution chip, the pixels are smaller and packed more closely together to fit onto the chip, leading to a lower signal-to-noise ratio than a standard-definition chip would have achieved.
Poll: 61% Think Red Light Cameras For Revenue, Not Safety
2009-09-20 17:28:00
Wow. What a shocker. A majority of the people in a recent Chicago Tribune poll, 61% to be exact, feel red light cameras are installed primarily to provide revenue for municipalities and not just to improve safety. Local governments would do that?I'm stunned at this revelation. Check out all the details in this Chicago Tribune story....

Ever since the Uptown mini-riot, I've been checking in with the Uptown Update to keep tabs on my old neighborhood.  They're still reporting on the fallout from that event, and the ongoing frustration with neighborhood crime and the response (or lack thereof) from Alderman Helen Shiller. While I was catching up I found this:We Wonder If The Thief's Rights Were Being Violated While He Stole Their Stuff?A reader found this on the web and sent it to us under the heading "From the Uptown 'You Just Can't Make This Stuff Up' File...":Pancakes with a purpose: COPWATCH, an organization that works to prevent police brutality and educate the community on citizen rights, is holding a breakfast benefit to recover the costs of...

Canon has announced the release of the new Canon G11. I've been using a G9 for a couple of years now and love it, but the housing's getting a bit beat up and occasionally the buttons stick and lock up the camera at depth... so the obvious cheap solution is to shop for a new/used housing... but man, I'm really wanting to get into an Olympus or Panasonic micro four thirds camera and housing some time in the next year as the line develops and the new models come out (but we're talking some $$ though, and I've got more than enough other things I need to spend it on for a while already). Now Canon announces the new G11... a few less megapixels than the G9, but an improved sensor and processor for less noise and improved low light performance... hmmm, might be more affordable sooner in my case... hmmm....Summer vacations seem to be ending, we're still going out nearly every day but the numbers on the boat are down. We're actually in the prime season for diving Kona for the next ...

Photo cameras - the basic guide
2009-07-31 10:42:00
For a few years, digital photo cameras don’t represent a caprice anymore, but a gadget anyone can afford. Considering price is one of the main characteristics customers guide themselves when buying a photo camera and the producer’s offer is really vast, especially in the reduced price category, that’s why it is really important to know what parameters to look for, to make the right decision. The parameters below are essential if you want to buy a mainstream or an entry level photo camera, these being the categories where producers hide important features and highlight the “popular” ones, which aren’t necessarily the essential ones for the camera’s performance. Number of Megapixels Megapixels are the characteristic of the photo sensor that will determine the image’s final resolution. For example, a 1000×1000 px picture means 1 MPx. The number of megapixels is determined by multiplying the horizontal resolution by the vertical one. The number of megapixels is...
3,000 cameras in the hands of kids
2009-07-28 20:30:00
It was a moment of inspiration. I was sitting in the office at Dearborn Homes on Friday afternoon. I was spending the afternoon with Ms. Ricks, the president there. She had been showing me around. In wandered a girl, about 11 or 12, with long skinny legs, wearing a bright yellow tank top. Ms. Ricks introduced her as Diamond, one of the kids who lived in the neighborhood. I wanted to pop outside and take a few pictures of some kids playing baseball, when a thought occurred to me. Last week, I wrote about cameras. Security cameras. My headline, "Will 3,000 security cameras make Chicago's public housing safer?" sent out on Twitter prompted this response from Chicago photojournalist Karen Kring....

Red-light cameras debate spills into Twitterverse
2009-07-12 06:14:00
What’s the true purpose of red-light cameras - for safety or to make money? That’s the question raised by a Chicago Tribune article today, which focuses on one camera in one suburb - Bellwood - which rakes in $60,000 to $70,000 each month from red-light camera fines. The debate quickly reached Twitter, as it so often does with controversial issues. Here’s what Chicago Twitterers had to say:...

2009-07-11 23:57:00
Are red light cameras truly a safety device or are they just a plot by money-hungry towns to raise bundles of cash? (It's debated here.)Here's my take: The more money they raise for cash-strapped towns like Chicago and some suburbs, the better....
