2008 Fantasy Baseball Sleeper: Cameron Maybin
2008-01-16 12:59:00 The centerpiece of the package the Florida Marlins received from the Detroit Tigers for 3B Miguel Cabrera and LP Dontrelle Willis was CF Cameron Maybin. He is a player who projects to be the power and speed combination that fantasy players drool over. However, he is just 20-years-old and had a very disappointing 49 AB major league stint last season when he "produced" a slash stat line of 143/208/265. It is the kind of effort that logically leads to the conclusion he was rushed and won't be ready to contribute positively in the 2008 season. (John Sickels of Minor League Ball offers his prospect analysis.) To illustrate this conventional wisdom being reflected in fantasy terms, Mock Draft Central has his ADP at 297 while being drafted in just 17.8% of the drafts so far. Over the past two weeks, his ADP has dropped 36.1% further demonstrating the acceptance by the fantasy baseball community that he is not going to be a viable 2008 contributor. However, I still think ...

Padres Checked In On Maybin
2007-12-05 23:42:00 According to Tom Krasovic of the San Diego Union-Tribune, Kevin Towers and the Padres "took a brief look" at Cameron Maybin before he was dealt to Florida in yesterday's blockbuster. Towers is apparently a big fan of Maybin, but obviously he couldn't work anything out. showad();

Cabrera, Willis Traded to Detroit
2007-12-05 04:17:00 Cameron Maybin: Florida Marlins Centerfielder Sorry for the delay, was out doing family stuff when the news came down. While I expected it, it seems to hurt now that it’s done. I feel this was the best package we had available to us and Larry Beinfest did a bang up job. The ...

Why The Gambler Has Folded
2007-09-23 18:58:00 Why The Gambler Has Folded Mr. X has obtained top secret photos that might explain why the Gambler is winless in his last 7 starts. And let’s just say that the blood clot excuse isn’t a really good one, what with all the blood thinning agents he is guzzling… It is a bleary-eyed Kenny Rogers photographed here on September 20th, 2007, 2 days before his start in Kansas City. Why is he looking so rough? Why, he’s doing shots of course!!! What a fine example he is setting for the young guys like Cameron Maybin as to how to conduct yourself like a professional when playing out the string of regular season games.

Cameron Maybin
2007-08-17 20:18:00 The Tigers are going to recall top hitting prospect Cameron Maybin and designate LF Craig Monroe for assignment. This is quite a surprise. Not because Monroe had been doing well, he wasn't, but because Maybin has so little minor league exeperience. This is his second season, and he has just 20 AA ABs. For the year, Maybin has hit very well for his age - 316/409/523. This followed a 304/387/457 in his first season. Those stats support the judgment that Maybin is amongst the best minor league hitting prospects. Additionally, he has 14 HR and 25 SB this year in 323 ABs compared to last year's 9/27 in 385 ABs. Those stats say he could contribute in those counting categories right away. The area of concern is his strikouts. In 2006 against Low A competition, he struck out 116 times in 385 ABs with 50 bases-on-balls (69.9% contact rate). This year against mostly High-A pitchers, he has struck out 91 times in 323 ABs with 51 BBs (71.8% CR.)...

Cameron Maybin Has Been Promoted to Tigers
2007-08-17 19:54:00 Cameron Maybin is probably one of the most ecstatic people living in the world at this moment, moving higher in places sooner than anyone could ever predict. That applies for the Detroit Tigers people too, with reports saying that earlier this month he would definitely not be called up to the major leagues when rosters expanded ...

Cameron Maybin Gets The Call
2007-08-17 18:19:00 Check it out - looks like Tigers top prospect Cameron Maybin will join the big club today. He's only 20. He'll replace Craig Monroe, and I imagine Jim Leyland will get him semi-regular playing time. Maybin is an extraordinary athlete, a player who could develop into a healthy Eric Davis according to Kevin Goldstein. Davis's career high in homers was 37 (in 129 games). He also once stole 80 bases in 132 games. Maybin has that kind of power and speed. However, he's very raw, having accumulated only 20 ABs at Double A. He did hit four home runs in the brief time. That proved he was fully recovered from a July shoulder injury. Projecting a guy like this is especially hard, because there are hardly any stats to go on. From a scout's point of view, he might've been the best prospect in all of the minors before his call-up. He can certainly pop a few homers and steal some bases, though a high strikeout rate will probably kee...

Futures Market: Cameron Maybin
2007-08-10 16:08:00 Futures Market: Cameron Maybin With the call up of Justin Upton, it is widely regarded that the best positional prospect left in the minors (pitching would be Clayton Kershaw) is Detroit’s Cameron Maybin. Jay Bruce may have the edge in power but Maybin has speed and defense on his side. Here is a little bit about the ...
