Old Superfossils in New Ad Campaigns
MSNBC Had Best Coverage of the Primary Campaigns
2008-06-06 00:08:00
This is not a statistical analysis, but the impressions of one viewer - me - who happens to be a Professor of Communication and Media Studies at Fordham University in New York City, and author of a whole bunch of books about the media.I'm thinking MSNBC had far and away the best coverage of the primary campaigns - far better than its CNN and Fox competition. Here's why:1. Tom Brokaw, Brian Williams, and Tim Russert commenting on the nights when the votes are counted: No other cable station or network has that kind of fire power - the current network news anchor (Williams), the previous network news anchor (Brokaw), and, just for good measure the host of Meet the Press (Russert). CNN and Fox have no parent network such as NBC to draw upon.2. The coverage of MSNBC during the day is top-notch, even extraordinary. Andrea Mitchell interviews movers and shakers whenever she is on, which is often. (Her interview with Manhattan Congressman Charlie Rangel yesterday broke new ground in ...

SQL Injection Attacks: The future of mass hacking campaigns
2008-05-28 19:32:00
SQL injection attacks are evolving as a prime mode of transportation for malicious scripts that hackers wish to insert into legitimate web-sites. Typically the web-site is a vehicle for distributing Trojans through scripts crafted to exploit specific vulnerabilities on visiting PCs; i.e. the recent Adobe Flash vulnerability annouced today that could use SQL injection as a form ...
SAP Campaigns to Put Customers First
2008-05-28 10:13:00
Better late than never. When large (and I mean large) companies grow so big, sometimes their only focus is the bottom line and the first “value” to disappear from the mission statement is Customer Service. I despise it when a company is simply interested in dropping off cardboard boxes, don’t you? After all, it’s relationships that matter, ...
The Kid campaigns
2008-05-24 04:12:00
You know it's getting bad when radio talk show hosts are spending an entire show on who will replace you and people are coming out of the woodwork to take your job. According to WFAN 660am Mike Francesca had a conversation at Yankee stadium last week with Keith Hernandez in which he indicated that he would accept the managers job if offered. Gary Carter actively campaigned today by calling the club and openly expressing his desires on a radio show. Omar flew into Colorado tonight which can't be a good sign for Willie, I say put him out of his misery and be done with the inevitable. Here’s a sample of what Carter said: “… The comments that David Wright made saying that, you know, there’s no spark, there’s no fire [on the Mets]. If anything I would love to bring that to the table because you know me, guys. I love the game, have a great passion for it and you know my enthusiasm and hopefully I would be able to bring that to maybe help turn that ball club around.”Continued ...
Hillary?s RFK reference needs no comment from campaigns (updated)

(banner from www.HuffingtonPost.com) Sunday update: Hillary tries to explain herself here (again) and her fans have been quick to spread the word.  She still does not understand, perhaps because this is not the first time she has spoken about this (and in this way), why people might be offended!  At the very least, Clinton wants Obama’s hopes ...

Customer Preference Key When Planning E-Mail Campaigns
2008-05-21 17:49:00
We're big believers in letting the consumer or business dictate which channel and how often they prefer to receive communications. By paying attention to these factors, direct marketers can make the most out of each DM campaign. This is becoming increasingly important when it comes to e-marketing.According to DM News today, Habeus, Inc., has just conducted some research that concurs with our thoughts. The study looked at how e-mail and online interaction with businesses overall is being adopted by consumers. A few key points that came out of the study were that, overall, more consumers prefer to receive e-mail messages from direct marketers -- in fact, it is the channel of choice most of the time. Here's a snippet from the article: “'E-mail is still vital, and it will continue to be,' said Des Cahill, CEO of Habeas Inc., of the fact that 67% of respondents prefer e-mail as a communications channel compared with other online vehicles and 65% believe this will continue in th...

Mobile Advertising: Coke and HUL launch Campaigns
2008-05-12 07:50:00
The current buzzword is 360 degree marketing making use of all possible media channels to send across your message. So despite spending nearly 80-90% of their marketing campaign money on traditional media like TV and print marketeers are backing up their campaigns by experimenting with digital media. Mobile advertising is on of the trends for 2008 that I mentioned in my earlier posts and it seems to be on the way up with marketeers more willing to experiment.Value-added service provider for mobiles Oxigen has recently orchestrated two mobile advertising campaigns one for HUL's Cornetto and other for Sprite and their success will determine future growth of mobile advertising in India. Interestingly both these brands are advertising using mobiles to target the youth since it has been found that the largest segment of mobile users in India are college students with pre-paid mobile connections and are the biggest consumers of mobile value added services. Here is what both the brands ar...
Great Tits. Britain vs North America?
2008-05-09 18:52:00
We’ve heard it over and over… global warming is a bad thing. Some have started campaigns to stop it, some have protested and some have excercised our right to vote for politicians who care and understand that global warming is truly a danger. That is, unless you’ve got great tits. Oh… and your tits are British. I received a tip (that was a tip, ...

Using Profitability to Measure Direct Marketing Campaigns
2008-04-29 18:02:00
As you know, we are huge proponents of measuring the effectiveness of each and every direct marketing campaign -- and looking specifically at the profitability of all DM efforts. If you don't do this, how can you improve your programs over time to ensure that your profits continue to grow? Further, how do you prove to your leadership team (or yourself) that the costs spent on marketing are well worth the effort? Our friends at Acxiom have just written about this very topic in their latest newsletter, and they came up with a quick and easy template that you can use for your own direct marketing efforts. We like this simple chart because there are some key takeaways to hone in on no matter what the size of your marketing organization.Take a look at this chart:If you were just looking at the response rate to measure the effectiveness of these three tests, you'd think (and probably promote internally) that the campaign with the offer of the free gift was the most successful. I mean...

Grey Lady Upset Over Candidates Negative Campaigns
2008-04-23 15:14:00
Because that’s their @$#%^* job! The Pennsylvania campaign, which produced yet another inconclusive result on Tuesday, was even meaner, more vacuous, more desperate, and more filled with pandering than the mean, vacuous, desperate, pander-filled contests that preceded it. Voters are getting tired of it; it is demeaning the political process; and it does not work. It is past time for Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton to acknowledge that the negativity, for which she is mostly responsible, does nothing but harm to her, her opponent, her party and the 2008 election. It doesn’t work? Sheesh. Every campaign, at least at the federal level, includes it. It is part and parcel of the nature of the beast. If it doesn’t work, then perhaps they could tell us why the famous Willy Horton affair, started actually by Al Gore, worked? Not that Bush 41 needed it against a weak candidate like Rock Us Dukakis, but, it sure helped expose the kind of governor and leader he was. And it happ...

If you're one of our valuable clients or partners, you've probably noticed that we've really embraced this channel lately!Hopefully, our messages are compelling enough to not only gain and hold your interest -- but also to make you either seek more information or contact us. So far, our results have been pretty darn good -- if we say so ourselves. Because of that, we thought that we'd share our tips for creating a compelling -- and responsive -- e-mail message. It's our responsibility as true bloggers -- and direct marketers -- to share our success stories with our favorite people -- our blog readers. With e-mail marketing, we are all competing for the attention span of the receiver in an increasingly overcrowded landscape. So, in our humble opinion, we have to pay special attention to a few basic elements in order to take full advantage this this very...
Mazda hires ad team that crafted MINI, VW campaigns
2008-04-09 08:21:00
Filed under: Marketing/Advertising, Mazda Think about some of your favorite automotive ads in the past few years and a couple of campaigns stand out. Volkswagen’s “Unpimp Mein Auto” and “Safe Happens” spots were some choice bits, and the countless print, billboard and TV ads for MINI simultaneously defined the brand and gave buyers on the fence one more reason to check out BMW’s revival of the iconic hatch. The ad firm of Crispin Porter + Bogusky was behind all of those creatives and Mazda has chosen Rob Strasberg, formerly of CP+B, to head up the Zoom-Zoom automaker’s marketing efforts through Doner Advertising. There are no details about how the new ad campaign will go down, but Mazda has no plans to deviate from the “zoom-zoom” theme that originally began back in 2000. Mazda is looking to balance out its crossover offerings with its sporty image, and that’s likely one of the first jobs Strasberg will be tasked with. Nat...

Keyword Tips For Google Adwords Campaigns
2008-04-06 19:31:00
It may seem a bit of a mouthful but using Google Adwords Keywords correctly will ensure your pay per click campaigns are a massive success. It's not all about keywords of course and your landing page, not to mention the quality of your ad, are almost as important. However, the need to use and organise your Google Adwords Keywords effective far outweighs any other considerations. By choosing the best keywords and using them in appropriate ad groups you will be able to target the customers you want.If your list of Google Adwords Keywords is not up to scratch your new pay per click campaign will have little or no chance of succeeding. But, before we look at how to use your list of keywords that list needs to be drawn up. The first step here is to review the content of your website noting down the keywords which best describe each facet of your online business. An important point to note here is that a keyword can be either singular, a combination of more than one word or a whole phrase. T...

Manhole Based Ad Campaigns.

Manhole Based Ad Campaigns. Here are a few ads that have used 'manholes' as a medium to convey their message to the consumers. And just one more thing, these are really good. A good one if not brilliant using manhole sticker.Water is precious. Let's conserve it. Similar to the first ad. An excellent ad which addresses the issue of missing manhole covers. This is our favorite one. A real good idea to utilize the steam coming out of drainage system by using small holes on the sticker. It uses the similar concept of the steam as in the above ad. A Proposal for the Obama and Clinton Campaigns
2008-03-05 06:15:00
Well, Hillary Clinton won Ohio and Rhode Island tonight, Barack Obama won Vermont, and Hillary Clinton won by small margin in Texas. It is nonetheless clear that (a) Obama still has a substantial, likely insurmountable lead in elected delegates and (b) Clinton will redouble her efforts in the race. The speeches given by the two candidates to their supporters were as expected: Obama's was far more inspiring, but Clinton's was fine. Two things I did not like in the Clinton speech were (1) her inclusion of Michigan and Florida in the tally of states she had won (especially egregious in the case of Michigan, where Obama's name wasn't even on the ballot), and (2) her reference to the 3 o'clock in the morning ad which her campaign is apparently very proud of. From my perspective, having studied the history of propaganda, that ad ranks as one of worst panderings to public fears (right up there with Tony Schwartz's atom bomb ad on behalf of LBJ in 1964).And Obama again offered his view...
