SHF Mmm... Canada - Nanaimo Bars
2008-06-24 10:31:00 Jennifer the Domestic Goddess asks: How sweet is Canada? for this month's edition of Sugar High Friday. Our last vacation before parentship we spent in Canada. We saw our first black bear picking wild berries in one of Albertas beautiful National Parks, obviously a sweet tooth. And we came into touch with Nanaimo Bars, not in the City of Nanaimo but anywhere on Vancouver Island. It was love on first taste. Nanaimo Bars Canada is sweet as Nanaimo Bars, the taste of these brought back pleasant memories from vacationing in Canada. The easiest thing was using the European style culturated butter, but no graham wafers in Germany. I think the lady fingers were a proper substitute. -=========REZKONV-Recipe - RezkonvSuite v1.4Title: Nanaimo BarsCategories: CanadaYield: 24 Bars Ingredients H BOTTOM LAYER115grams Unsalted butter (European style cultured)1/4cup Sugar25grams Co-coa1 Egg beaten, 50 grams105cups Graham wafer crumbs*1/2cup Finely chopped almonds90grams Coconut, desi...

HAPPY CANADA DAY!

2007-07-02 11:24:00 HAPPY CANADA DAY!i realize this is a day late... but i was in no state to be posting yesterday. i was recovering from (korean) canada day! turns out that canada day celebrations can be just as much fun when you're outside of the country.of course, i've been in quebec for the last twenty or so, so i guess i wasn't really "in" canada! haha.on saturday kim, brandy and i headed into busan to go to starface, where they were holding their third annual canada day party. we went out for "western" food at outback steakhouse and headed to the party. we paid our 15,000W (~17$) for our all-you-can-drink cups and started the party.i was drinking rye and ginger all night - which was awesome because the last time i saw ginger ale was in japan, and before that was last summer when i was in canada! i didn't think that it existed in korea, but i have photographic evidence now. the bartender w/couldn't tell me where it came from, so i'll have to wait another 2 months for some more... :(canada dr...

One More For Canada Day!
2007-07-02 08:05:00 It’s not just the weather that’s cooler in Canada…Pittsburgh Post-Gazette | Wednesday, July 30, 2003 | Samantha Bennett (412-263-3572)You live next door to a clean-cut, quiet guy. He never plays loud music or throws raucous parties. He doesn’t gossip over the fence, just smiles politely and offers you some tomatoes. His lawn is cared-for, his house is neat as a pin and you get the feeling he doesn’t always lock his front door. He wears Dockers. You hardly know he’s there. And then one day you discover that he has pot in his basement, spends his weekends at peace marches and that guy you’ve seen mowing the yard is his spouse.Allow me to introduce Canada. The Canadians are so quiet that you may have forgotten they’re up there, but they’ve been busy doing some surprising things. It’s like discovering that the mice you are dimly aware of in your attic have been building an espresso machine. Did you realize, for example, that our reliable little tag-along brother never...
Happy Canada Day and welcome to Free Agency! [Chrissy]
2007-07-02 04:46:00 I read some words that I really didn't prefer to read tonight.....that being that Daniel Briere is a Flyer. Why couldn't we have gotten Drury??? We signed him for a 8 year deal too! Some other players were signed and traded today, including the trade of Joni Pitkanen.Chris Drury along with Scott Gomez went to the New York Rangers! (I'm wondering how the Rangers cap is doing - anyone with some details on how they were able to get both of these guys and still have money, let me know)Brian Rafalski went out west to Detroit...Manny Fernandez I believe is in Boston....this is just the first day of Free Agency and I feel like we are all in for a ride this summer.http://img68.imageshack.-us/my.php?image=amerlegendslogo-5wj.gif

Happy Canada Day!!!
2007-07-02 02:30:00 Happy Canada Day to all my Canadian family and friends (and blog friends). The festivities began early in the morning. The fire department held a yard sale and many people came out to support the local fire department. There were many activities going on in SouthBay. It was soooo busy! All the festive colours, floats for the parade, Canadian flags, hamburgers, ice cream, local artists selling their crafts...It was wonderful! Since Hubby is a firefighter and an emergency first responder, guess who had to help at the yard sale? :) That's right! We all pitched in and helped out. It was lots of fun talking to tourists and locals and raising money for the fire department. A pic of hubby, just because I think he looks cute in his uniform! LOL! Hubby showing a bunch of kids the inside of a fire truck. The kids got a kick out of honking the horn, hearing the siren, seeing the lights flash. Showin' some Canadian spirit! My SIL and my niece were in the parade. So was my hubby (he was drivi...
canada day muffins!
2007-07-01 21:42:00 Happy Canada Day! I've been up early getting started so that I can relax before our friends arrive for a little Canada Day bbq and fireworks watching from our balcony. I've got a mixed bean salad marinating in the fridge, 2 different kinds of ice cream (coconut chocolate chip & mexican chocolate) ready to start churning (we do it old school in our teal Ice Queen), and another salad that will involve potatoes, cukes and dill. Plus, our fridge is full of beer and I've got tonic water & club soda to marry with the gin for some icy cocktails. I love holidays!I also love breakfast and I'm sitting here with coffee in my hand realizing that I've had nothing to eat yet today and it's already 1pm. Oops! I should have been more prepared. I should have made some muffins. More importantly, I should have made a batch of Berry Smash muffins. I made some earlier in the week and they were simple to make....I whipped up the batter the night before, poured the mixture into muffin tins and p...

Canada Day
2007-07-01 19:23:00 Happy Canada Day, all! I've been watching the celebrations on CBC and thinking about Canada. On August 3, 1992, I left Chester, a city in the North West of England, for good and arrived in Toronto. I cannot believe it has been almost 15 years since I moved here. I have never been so unhappy about anything in my entire life, but I must say, all these years later, that it was a good decision. While I still feel as though I missed out on a lot, I've been able to do so many things that I never would have even thought of if I'd stayed in the U.K. That being said, my resolve to eventually return home is stronger than ever, but I no longer resent moving to Canada.I finally went to Ireland Park. Spending Friday afternoon there with Caro and Sandra was bittersweet, as Caro moved back to Quebec on Saturday morning, but we had a wonderful time. I spent most of it taking photographs of the statues. Here are a couple of my favourites. If you'd like to see more, there are some posted on my ph...

2007-07-01 14:36:00 Sunday Click AroundHappy Canada Day!I burned a lot of time looking at Vintage Photographs. I went back to the archives and loved looking at random photos mixed in with the blogger's vintage family photos. Here is my absolute favourite scene in Bure Baruta (Cabaret Balkan). Too bad it's in Italian.I like MIA. I find her blend of West and East Indian beats interesting...although her website is eye scorching, she's got a distinctly 80's feel for me, and for some reason (unknown) she reminds me of Neneh Cherry. Don't ask me why. Here's some classic Neneh 80's goodness.Speaking of 80's goodness, here's Milli Vanilli too.The classic question: How come there aren't many black girls in the "Girls Gone Wild" videos? This might be your answer.Ever wonder what famous people did before they got famous? They weren't all waiters and waitresses. Here is the Forbes list.Want to see interviews with prostitutes? Join me in celebrating our national holiday and do what I do - drink a nice cold beer and light off some bottle rockets in your backyard. I guess I could go watch the fireworks at the park, but they don’t let me light them.

2007-07-01 09:01:00 No gloom and doom on the sidebar today from this blogger, anyway. Housing Doom Canada is so taking the day off. Bright and early, we’re going down to the Grand Parade to sing this bit of music [1] before heading off to pancakes served by Halifax’s Mayor Peter Kelly. The seagulls are appropriate. ...

Canada day Wishes
2007-06-26 11:13:00 Canada Day is an opportunity to gather in our communities, from coast to coast to coast, and to proudly celebrate all we have in common. It is an opportunity to celebrate our achievements, which were born in the audacious vision and shared values of our ancestors, and which are voiced in nearly all of the languages of the world through the contribution of new Canadians.Canada Day is a time to celebrate the heritage passed down to us through the works of our authors, poets, artists and performers. It is a time to rejoice in the discoveries of our scientific researchers, in the success of our entrepreneurs, and to commemorate our history ? a history in which each new chapter reveals itself to be more touching, more fascinating than the last.As we look ahead, we have every reason to face the future with confidence and enthusiasm.Let's celebrate Canada!Canada Day Canadian Wishessend your friend/ loved one's this virtual canada day ecard.[ Flash ] Happy Canada Day !Reach out to all you...

Inspired by a two-month-long trip to Cuba, Broken Social Scene lead guitarist Andrew Whiteman founded Apostle as a means of exploring his new found love for Spanish music, particularly the Cuban guitar, or tres. Joining them are the 90's power-pop quartet Sloan (who headline) and Winnipeg's country-music wielding Duhks. More info below. Read More...Digg this | Email to a friend | Reddit
