2008-09-11 07:06:00 My 10 year old daughter follows Canadian Idol closely, hoping to go for it herself when she is old enough; so when UofL student Theo Tam made the final two, Mary sent me to line up for tickets for the hometown viewing of the final show. The university lent its new gym for the purpose, and we showed up early enough to be among the first through the door. Tigana ran ahead to get good seats for Mary, Kasia and I even though it was 90 minutes before the show and the gym was not yet crowded. I was pleased with Tigana?s choice of the front seats in the second section, a good spot to see and be seen, and about the best we could have gotten without being the very first in line. But after about 20 minutes the producer came over to us and asked if we would move to the section signed as reserved for Tam friends and family. We were pleasantly, though not very, surprised: yet again, the ?cuteness factor? had worked in our favor, as the producers selected Kasia and Tigana to be front and center ...

After learning he'd earned the title in the final moments of a two-hour, star-studded finale, the modest Hamiltonian gave the crowd a taste of what they can expect of his victory lap as a signed singer. His version of "All I Ever Wanted" closed out the show, and will hit the airwaves and multiple online music retailers at 12 a.m. on Sept. 13. The above video shows her performing a couple of songs live, including Because of You and Never Again. Sadly, it’s the best singing any fans of Canada’s Idol installment are going to see. Why? Because the entire talent pool on the show has been pretty much terrible since day one, and they’re not getting much better. They’re just getting fewer as the weeks and votes go by. I guess the solid point in all of this is that Kelly seems to be trying to appear good-looking in public, and perhaps she’s losing some weight? If so, congrats to you Kelly! For some reason Kelly looked bigger weight-wise last night. Something about her hair being styled and blonde along with tighter clothing makes her look a lot thinner for some reason. Kelly also announced that she will be touring Canada later this fall. A few tour dates have already been released for the US, but as soon as the full list is available I'll post it!

In my final year of law school, at the University of Western Ontario, I produced and directed a production of the musical Blood Brothers. I loved working on it and despite all bias I believe we had a dynamic production. It was the inspiration for starting my commercial theatre company and launching my producing career. Our cast was outstanding and I did massive amounts of research, including a trip to Liverpool, to ensure the authenticity of the show. We had a dialect coach, born and raised in Liverpool, work tirelessly with our cast to ensure every character had the right accent. It was a wonderful time for me. We had a hard time finding our narrator and when Andrew Austin auditioned he was incredible and exciting. He was not legit theatre, although he had lots of community theatre experience.
