Barack Obama?s candidacy for President

This is both good news and bad news, depending on ...

Obama owes his candidacy to his race
2008-04-16 20:00:00 Oh yeah, Geraldine said it first, and I backed her up on it, but this time, it didn’t come from a white woman, or a white man. It came from the founder of Black Entertainment Television, billionaire businessman Bob Johnson: “What I believe Geraldine Ferraro meant is that if you take a freshman senator from Illinois called `Jerry Smith’ and he says I’m going to run for president, would he start off with 90 percent of the black vote?” Johnson said. “And the answer is, probably not.” “Geraldine Ferraro said it right. The problem is, Geraldine Ferraro is white. This campaign has such a hair-trigger on anything racial it is almost impossible for anybody to say anything.” This guy is obviously a sell-out, an Uncle Tom, a “house negro” for the Clintons, right? I mean, I fully expect to see him called these things by the Obamatons across the blogosphere. Or, is he just telling it like it really is? The fact is, Obama has d...

Dick Morris: Obama's Real Experience...His Candidacy
2008-02-26 03:07:00 Received Via Email OBAMA’S REAL EXPERIENCE: HIS CANDIDACYBy DICK MORRIS & EILEEN MCGANNPublished on DickMorris.com on February 25, 2008.The best evidence of Obama’s readiness to lead the nation is the ability with which he has run for president. After all, what is more difficult, complicated, or challenging than getting elected president? What other life experience better illustrates one’s qualification to hold the office than a manifest skill in seeking it. For anyone who has ever been elected president, the race that sent them to the White House was the single most important event in their lives and dwarfs any other experience they might have had before running. As we have watched Obama surmount the hurdles that lay in his path, we cannot help but be impressed with his judgment. Adam Wallinsky, who served on Bobby Kennedy’s staff, once singled out good judgment as JFK’s most salient characteristic. Obama has faced so many delicate questions and issues and seems a...

Kenneth Stepp Files his Candidacy Papers for U.S. Senate
2008-01-29 17:35:00 Manchester Democrat Kenneth Stepp has filed his papers to run for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate per the Secretary of State's website. Stepp was throttled in the 5th District Congressional race against long time Republican Hal Rogers in 2006. Stepp won with 47,362 votes in the 2006 Democratic primary and in the General he managed to obtain only 52,367 votes to 147,201 votes for Rogers. People in the 5th congressional District remember this 73.8% to 26.2% mauling and one area political type says he could also become a spoiler for a Horne, seeing the Fischer candidacy may be designed for that fact if Bruce Lunsford chooses to run today.
Unger Abandons Capito Challenge Ahead of Candidacy Deadline
2008-01-26 22:48:00 The biggest news from the final day for 2008 candidacy filings may be that of a non-starter.State Sen. John Unger, D-Berkeley, announced he will not enter the race to take on U.S. Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, R-2nd.As The Associated Press reports, Unger "had already raised at least $150,000 and lined up support from the state?s two U.S. House Democrats and some of their congressional colleagues."This backing included special attention from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. And besides launching a congressional campaign web site, Unger had also picked up an AFL-CIO endorsement. But most conspicuous, and controversial, was the on-stage endorsement from Reps. Alan Mollohan, D-1st, and Nick Rahall, D-3rd, during last year's Jefferson-Jackson Dinner. All this likely leaves party officials befuddled, and any previously deterred candidates scrambling to re-assess their chances.AP also has a rundown of some of the other contested races at the top of the ballot. In addition to its...

I'm Withdrawing My Support of Ron Paul's Candidacy
2008-01-10 00:02:00 I am withdrawing my support for Ron Paul. I have been urging, since last March, that people should support the best candidate in each of the two parties, and Ron Paul was far and away my choice among the Republican contenders. My reasons for that support remain. Ron Paul's respect for our Constitution, and his opposition to our undeclared war which follows from that, and his support of the First Amendment which also stems from his standing up for the Constitution, are still among the most crucial issues of our day. Ron Paul's positions on those issues are better than any other candidates' positions in either party (including the positions of Barack Obama, whom I am supporting for the Democratic nomination). But I nonetheless can no longer support Ron Paul's candidacy. The reasons are presented in some detail, with citations, in this Wikipedia entry entitled the Ron Paul Report newsletter controversy. This newsletter, published under various, slightly different titles for deca...

Eastern Kentucky's Reaction to Col. Andrew Horn's Candidacy
2007-12-14 05:24:00 One Eastern Kentucky Elected Official told me tonight that a Horne vs. McConnell general election has the potential to go "Bunning and Mongiardo before July". I know what he meant by the Bunning and Mongiardo remark, it means that McConnell may be in for a good old fashion bull in the ring match, for anyone that has not played football ask someone who has and they will explain the bull in the ring drill. I was actually surprised at the discontent toward McConnell in this region because quite a few Democrats seem to support uncle Hal every two years and McConnell seems to always hitch a ride on the Rogers train. Not this time and Horne fever could spread like Harlan County barbershop gossip, that means fast. I have more questions to ask in different parts of this region but for now I am honestly excited about the initial reaction to Horne's candidacy. If the right work is done with the right people, Horne could easily become a solid consensus candidate in this region by March. I ...

Dick Morris: BILL'S DEFENSE UNDERMINES HILLARY'S CANDIDACY
2007-11-10 15:57:00 Dick MorrisÂ’s viewpoints on Hillary Clinton are always incisive and enlightening but sometimes he really hits the bullÂ’s eye and this is one of those times. HillaryÂ’s handlers must be seeing this and are striving to remake the already chameleon like Hillary for every group she addresses. The recent firestorm over her John Kerry like support for both sides of the driverÂ’s license for illegal's issue in New York underscores her efforts at pandering. Moreover, in spite of the Democrats belief that they can be all things to all people she is sure to stumble repeatedly. The question though is will the Republicans take advantage of her fumbles. So far, they have not. ~RJH Received via email from Dick Morris THE CLINTON CONUNDRUM: BILL'S DEFENSE UNDERMINES HILLARY'S CANDIDACYBy DICK MORRIS & EILEEN MCGANN Published on FoxNews.com on November 9, 2007.During the Bill Clinton presidency, it became obvious that the president and the first lady were locked in a zero sum game of perce...
Gallup Poll: Strong Male Resistance to Hillary Candidacy
2007-11-08 18:28:00 Is the Hillary Clinton poll meltdown continuing? A slew of recent polls has indicated that both her national and states polling numbers have been going southward since her disastrous performance at the most recent Democratic presidential debatet in Philadelphia on October 30. Now a new USA TODAY/Gallup Poll has more devastating news for Hillary Clinton: there is strong and possibly strengthening male opposition to her candidacy. More than eight in 10 Republicans and more than half the married men in a new USA TODAY/Gallup Poll say they definitely wouldn't vote for Hillary Rodham Clinton for president. The poll provides an early snapshot of who's ruling out Clinton, John Edwards and Barack Obama, the three leading candidates for the Democratic nomination ... The poll found that 36% of women wouldn't vote for Clinton, compared with 50% of men ? and 55% of married men. Obama had comparable appeal to women and more to men. Clinton's appeal overall falls as income rises, the reve...
Obama camp helped crush Colbert candidacy
2007-11-06 18:30:00 WHILE THEY LAUGH, WE FUME! OBAMA SUCKS, S.C. (TPS) - CNN is reporting that, “Two prominent supporters of Illinois Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential campaign in South Carolina called state Democratic Party officials and urged them to keep funnyman Stephen Colbert’s name off the primary ballot, according to party officials and Obama supporters.” We don’t know which “prominent supporters” they’re speaking of, but may God have mercy on their souls. There are few words in the English language to describe how pissed we are at the crybabies in the Obama camp. We understand that the Democratic Party was never going to allow Colbert on the ballot, regardless of the childish antics of Obama’s people. But the fact that they still went and whined to party officials to keep someone from partaking in the democratic (and Democratic with a big “D”) process — serious or not — is downright pathetic. And not only did they ...

Stephen Colbert announces presidential candidacy!!!
2007-10-18 00:01:00 Last night, Stephen Colbert appeared on The Daily Show and announced he would be making a statement on whether or not he was considering running for president. Stephen chose to hold his announcement for a more prestigious show however, that aired about 15 minutes after Stephen dropped this first bombshell. Months upon months of buildup and speculation have created a fever pitch surrounding Stephen Colbert's possible candidacy. And on last night's Colbert Report, Stephen finally announced he was running for president of the United States. So far, Stephen has officially only said he will be campaigning in South Carolina, which certainly must mean Clinton and Obama are breathing sighs of relief. Stephen is running as a democrat and as a republican, further blurring the lines between indecisive parties. Man of the Year anyone? And yes, however any of this turns out, certainly has to be better than that stinker of a movie.I eagerly await the South Carolina primary, assuming Stephe...

Is Fox News Out to Destroy Ron Paul's Candidacy?
2007-09-07 23:09:00 Editing this in, since I hadn't even seen this clip before I posted this: Fox News moderators in the debate accused Paul of taking "Marching orders from Al Qaeda." Arguably the worst moderating I have seen, as Paul ends up having to debate the moderators?!? During this debate season, Fox News decided to add "cell phone voting" to the post-debate analysis. After the first debate, Ron Paul won the cell phone vote, much to the displeasure of the Fox News pundits (youtube video from that debate here.) The second Fox News debate was no different. Pundits Hannity and Colmes assure the audience that Ron Paul is winning the poll simply because people are redialing. What is the point of having a poll if people are able to abuse it?

Fred Thompson Declares Candidacy on the Tonight Show
2007-09-06 08:32:00 And here's a clip of Fred Thompson's announcement on the Tonight Show, tonight, that he's running for President. With a little Jay Leno humor thrown in, too...Makes sense, given Thompson's creds as an entertainer as well as a politician. As I indicated in my Fred Thompson and the Fame Game piece here in June, Thompson's recognizability and public clout as an actor will make him hard but by no means impossible to beat. On the one hand, Thompson has a lot of what Reagan and Arnold had and have going for them. On the other hand, because of the Internet, I don't think network television is quite as important now as it was for Reagan (along with movies) or movies for Schwarzenegger.I think Thompson's candidacy will most hurt Giuliani, Romney, and McCain - with little effect on Ron Paul, who has such a different wellspring of support.listen to Light On Light Through podcast also iTunes Paul Levinson's books

Why Thompson is Launching his Candidacy on Late Night Comedy [Framing Scien
2007-09-05 11:08:00 Say what? Fred Thompson is launching his presidential candidacy on Jay Leno? In today’s fragmented media world, it’s a smart move. As the political scientist Matt Baum describes in a recent study, and as I have detailed on this blog many times, with so many media choices, audiences without a preference for political information are tuning out hard news and instead spending their media time with entertainment and infotainment media. When candidates go on late night comedy, they reach the few “persuadables” left in the electorate, non-news audiences who have few other sources of information about the candidate. On these programs, candidates are usually able to offer their best personal narrative, and hopefully in the process, prime memories of likability and strong character. Indeed, an appearance on a late night comedy show can trump critical information featured in news coverage, since audiences for these shows are unlikely to pay attention to the coverage. ...
