Canucks 6, Blackhawks 2: What the heck was that?
2011-11-07 06:05:00
If you are going to give up 5 Power-play goals and not score any of your own, you are going to lose by a lot no matter what else you do on the ice. Not that it matteres for the Hawks, they didn’t really do anything 5-on-5 either, which added up to a disgusting excuse... Read more »

Could it be the Canucks?
2011-06-13 03:20:00
With no news coming this week about the Chicago Wolves and their affiliate other teams in the AHL slowly began to team up with NHL affiliates for the upcoming season. The Winnipeg team made it official that the new St. John team will be the affiliate to them this fall ruling out any chance of them selecting the Wolves. What that means, is that all the players that played for the Wolves this year that were under Atlanta Thrasher's contracts will be playing in St. John this season. Many of the players called Chicago home for a few years and now they will make the switch to the North East tip of Canada.Wendell Young stated last week in a Chicago Tribune...
The Canucks are 2 wins away from taking Lord Stanley's Cup to Vancouve

My thoughts are definitely moving towards a Vancouver win, though I still think Boston is well within reason to come back and take it from the Nucks.

Blackhawks in great position to advance on mentally weak Canucks
2011-04-25 18:43:00
I'm guilty, you're guilty.  We are all guilty.  We gave up on the Hawks after 3 games, because we thought the players gave up after game 82.  We were wrong, and here we are...game seven in Vancouver.    At this point, how can the Blackhawks lose?  The Vancouver Canucks are everything they'd proven to be in the last two playoff series' they had against the Hawks.   They're mentally soft.  They play dirty when things aren't going their way.  The Hawks are in Roberto Luongo's head...so much so that he hid in the dressing room until Michael Frolik de-jocked Corey Schneider on a penalty shot, injuring his leg.  Luongo wanted no part of the Blackhawks last night.  His teammates are likely...

2011-04-25 08:21:00
Well, like my tortured analogy yesterday, this team is not dying easy. Three times Vancouver took the lead, three times the Hawks tied it and then came back to win in overtime. Could this have been scripted any more bizarre if someone tried? I don't know. But, let's hit it. For perhaps the first time this series, we saw playoff hockey. Both teams brought it and overall, I thought it was a very tight game despite one team or the other controlling for stretches at a time. Starting off, Vancouver scored early on a Hammer turnover that D. Sedin took around the net from Crow's right to his left and managed to sort of fling it in a way that it...

Pacers, Canucks: Go Pound Sand
2011-04-23 18:00:00
"Pound sand" is one of my all-time favorite Chicagoisms. I don't know for sure that it's a saying that evolved here first, but I've never heard anyone say pound sand where I'm from. Back on the East Coast, we might say something along the lines of "go play in traffic," as an old woman on my block once told me to go do.   Exhibit A on how to pound sand But pound sand, as most of us are aware, is a useful combination "take a hike" and "get out of my face, buddy." And because of its veiled imagery combined with its plain-spoken intent, "pound sand" is possibly my favorite Chicago saying; second only to that old joke about...

Dave Bolland Returns, Blackhawks Blow Canucks Out of Chicago
2011-04-20 05:26:00
Let's not waste time with the box score. Kevin Bieksa should have received aninstigator penalty for jumping Viktor Stalberg in the final five minutes of the game. And Raffi Torres, who the NHL decided didn't need to be suspended again, got kicked out and was hit with 10 penalty minutes. Torres went out of his way to make it obvious what a failure it was by the league office to not suspend him by taking every shot he could. But beyond the (expected) cheap shots, Tuesday night's game was a clear example of what happens when a champion gets backed into a corner. And they have John Scott waiting....

Seabrook out, Bolland in for Game 4 vs Canucks
2011-04-19 18:27:00
There's some good news and some bad news for the Blackhawks as they head into tonight's Game 4 matchup with the Canucks.  First the bad news...Brent Seabrook, who was the victim of a vicious (and legal...according to the NHL's thinktank) hit from Vancouver forward Raffi Torres, is out tonight.  One can safely assume he has a concussion. Now for the good news...Dave Bolland will return to the lineup after battling a concussion.  This will be the first game Bolland has played since March 9th, when a Pavel Kubina elbow knocked him out of action.    It's hard to make an argument for a Hawk win without Seabrook.  The defense has struggled WITH him on the ice.  Now, with John Scott as the apparent...

Blackhawks Blow Out Canucks, Reach Mid-Point of Circus Trip

And yet somehow Hawks fans have more questions than answers at the mid-way point in the annual Circus Trip....
NHL Punishment for Canucks Player Attacking Minnesota Wild Fan?

Chicago Blackhawks fans know all about the thuggery of the Vancouver Canucks. See the past two Western Conference semi-finals for a refresher course. But it's more than Big Buffy the Loungo Slayer who inspires ire in the team from British Columbia who have a Borat lookalike in goal. It's also fans of the Minnesota Wild.Check out the video below. Blackhawks rout Canucks to advance to Conference Finals
2010-05-12 07:10:00
Maybe the Hawks should see if General Motors Place is available for the next few weeks.  The Vancouver Canucks have no use for it.  And the Hawks feel right at home. Chicago ended Vancouver's season with a dominating 5-1 road victory earning the Blackhawks a second consecutive trip to the Western Conference Finals to face the San Jose Sharks.  The Hawks won all three games in British Columbia during the series scoring 16 goals against beleagured Canucks captain Roberto Luongo in the process.  In stark contrast to Sunday's snoozer at the United Center, Tuesday night's game started fast-paced with both goalies needing to be good early as the Canucks outshot the Hawks 13-12 in the first period.  Luongo used...

2010-05-12 06:15:00
If there was any doubt in Hawks' fans' minds that the team would wrap things up in Vancouver tonight, Dave Bolland's shorthanded goal surely ended those worries. That goal put the Hawks up 3-0, and despite an early third period Vancouver goal, the Hawks never looked back.

Top Ten Vancouver Canucks I'd Like to Take a Swing At
2010-05-11 12:28:00
With so much bad blood bubbling over between the Chicago Blackhawks and Vancouver Canucks, it's only natural that it'd carry over to their respective fan bases. Over the first five games, I'm sure there are plenty of Chicagoans out there who have a few Canucks in mind they'd love to take a swing at. I'm no different and to prove it, here are my Top Ten. By the way, I'd obviously get an epic beat down if I stood toe to toe with any of these gents and have no problem admitting it. ...
Blackhawks in no hurry to close out the Canucks
2010-05-10 05:26:00
The Hawks enjoyed last week's trip to Vancouver so much they decided to make a return visit.  Playing with no sense of urgency to end the series with Vancouver, Chicago allowed their foe an early lead and the Canucks held-on for a 4-1 victory to force Game 6 on Tuesday night in General Motors Place. The goaltenders switched roles Sunday night at the United Center with Roberto Luongo displaying a poise and control that was missing from the Canucks captain the past three games.  On the other hand, Blackhawks goalie Antti Niemi was good at times, but he allowed a bad goal to Christian Erhoff 59 seconds into the game that let the Canucks set the early tone.  Niemi...

Once again, Hawks outclass brainless Canucks
2010-05-08 17:25:00
Before I sat down to host my hockey postgame show on the Score last night, I wrote down three words:  Discipline, Coaching, and Character.  These three things have been the key to the Blackhawks 3-1 series lead over the Vancouver Canucks.  While rampant douchebaggary can be expected from guys like Alexander Burrows, Shane O'Brien, and Ryan Kesler, no one would suspect career softie Daniel Sedin.  Sedin took two awful 2nd period penalties, and the Hawks capitalized on both of them.  This series has been a carbon copy of last years Hawks / Canucks series.  Step 1.  Bump Luongo once or twiceStep 2.  Score at willStep 3.  Let the frustrated Canucks take dumb penaltiesStep 4.  Score at willStep 5.  Let the...

Hawks Dominate Canucks; Toews with Hat Trick
2010-05-08 07:34:00
Up 3-1 with one win left to advance to the Western Conference finals, all is looking good for the Hawks. Furthermore, the Canuck/Blackhawk rivalry is becoming increasingly fun, especially considering the frequent beatdowns handed out by the Hawks. Here's to wrapping this series up on Sunday and moving on from this overmatched, under-disciplined, and overrated Canucks team.

Byfuglien's hat trick leads Blackhawks past Canucks
2010-05-06 07:58:00
A motivated Dustin Byfuglien is a beautiful thing to watch. Big Buff scored a hat-trick as the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Vancouver Canucks 5-2 to take a 2-1 lead in the best of seven series.  Playing full-time as a forward with linemates Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane, Byfuglien tallied all three goals while standing in front of his favorite foe - Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo.  It was Byfuglien's first goals of the playoffs as he has also spent time as a defenseman this postseason for head coach Joel Quenneville's Hawks. The final score was the only stat that held true to the nature of Wednesday night's contest.  The Hawks were outshot 16-12 in the first period, but led 2-0. ...
Big Buff; BOOM BOOM- Hawks Beat Canucks 5-2
2010-05-06 07:56:00
Perhaps the most refreshing aspect of this game, besides the Hawks never trailing, was Vancouver's obvious frustration towards the end of the game. This series has immediately become reminiscent of last year, as the Hawks' consistent play (at least through games two and three) has proven to be enough to out last Vancouver's best attempts, and draw penalties while doing so.

Versteeg caps comeback as Blackhawks even series with Canucks
2010-05-04 06:54:00
Go ahead, pick a cliche.  It's not about how you start, it's how you finish.  Better late than never.  Never say die.  There's not a wrong answer.  They all apply. Well, the Chicago Blackhawks were about finished after a miserable opening five minutes that saw them fall behind by two quick goals.  But the gritty group proved resilient yet again as the Hawks rallied with three unanswered goals in the third period to elate a nervous United Crowd in a 4-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks that ties the Western Conference Semifinal at a game apiece. Kris Versteeg made a lot of plays - some good, some bad.  But none was more important than the gamewinning goal with 90...

Hawks V Canucks... Let's get Physical
2010-04-29 02:03:00
As the Hawks move on to round two of the Stanley Cup Playoffs we are eager to see how they will defeat the Vancouver Canucks. The only way... to play physical. As we know the Canucks play dirty, SUPER dirty, EXTREMELY dirty, downright cheap  and dirty. The Hawks will have to ignore their dirty playing and beat them at their own game by throwing each and everyone of them into the boards.Although we loved Ryan Kesler during the Olympics, we are now  back to hating him and so are the Hawks. If anyone remembers the last time the Hawks played the Canucks, Andrew Ladd hit him into the boards into the first 40 seconds of the game, causing Kelser to pick a fight with...
Canucks' Kesler bans his Detroit family from Hawks' game to save

Turns out the Vancouver Canucks don't just hate the Blackhawks. They hate you. And you. And you. At least Ryan Kesler does. He says Hawks fans hassled his family and he refuses to let them come back for a game in Chicago because of it. I will get back to this breaking news after a few paragraphs of stirring another pot. As a public service I'll try and bring you late-breaking bulletins for this series of the century, since we live in the age of instant news being disseminated in the blink of an eye. Canucks suddenly emerge as a hated rival for Hawks
2010-03-06 16:18:00
When you're an Original Six team in the NHL, the word "rival" is thrown around pretty loosely.  Back in the day, when your opponents were so few, it was almost impossible to NOT have an intense game every night.  Familiarity breeds hatred. Now that the NHL has grown, and sports themselves have become less "personal", rivalries grow in other ways.  The Hawks will ALWAYS have a rival in the Detroit Red Wings.  The combination of their Original Six ties, their close proximity, and the fact that historically, they have been two of the more successful teams in the conference makes that inevitable.  St. Louis has gained steam as a rival, but the Chicago / St. Louis rivalry, in my opinion, is...
