Comic Book Review: Captain America #41
2008-08-27 01:33:00 The Revolution is a big fan of Brubaker?s Captain America. This current story arc has been wonderfully crafted and we are rapidly heading toward the conclusion. Captain America #41 is the penultimate issue of this story arc so I expect Brubaker to crank out a gem of an issue that has plenty of unexpected twists and turns. Let?s go ahead and hit the review for Captain America #41.Creative TeamWriter: Ed BrubakerPencils: Steve EptingInks: Rick Magyar & Steve EptingArt Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 9 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 8.5 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with Sam and Bucky in a hotel room playing poker. Of course, they are playing for Euros and not dollars. Suddenly, Redwing links up with Sam and reports back that the 1950?s Cap is still hiding out in the same spot for the past four days. Redwing reports that a group of AIM soldiers is now circling the 1950?s Cap?s location. We see the 1950?s Cap in a diner with a bunch of AIM soldiers outsid...
Casting Call: CAPTAIN AMERICA
2008-06-08 23:04:00 Editor’s Note: Since theREELaddict.com’s discussion surrounding who should be cast as CAPTAIN AMERICA included so many of our TV favorites, this TV Addict thought he’d cross-post the ‘Casting Call’ on theTVaddict.com and see what you all think. With the announcement that a CAPTAIN AMERICA film is coming our way, and that Marvel has already a compiled a list of actors it wants to potentially play the star-spangled superhero (with Matthew McConaughey at the top of that list apparently), I decided to sit down with my friend, fellow comic book connoisseur, and co-editor of MONDOmagazine – the online magazine that gave this humble blogger his start – Miles Baker and talk about possible casting choices for the film. NOTE: At the time this article was written Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige had not yet informed us the McConaughey rumors were false, nor confirmed that the film will be a period piece set in World War II. REELaddict: So, Matthew McConaughey. I...

Marvel Knights
2008-06-04 00:38:00 So, as an update on my comic-marathon, I’d just like to say that I finished Logan #2, and holy crap. The first one was amazing, and the second one blew me away. I know some people harbor misgivings about Marvel Knights because of some sub-par titles in the past, but right now Marvel ...
Comic Book Review: Captain America #38
2008-05-27 03:57:00 The Revolution always looks forward to the latest issue of Captain America. This title continues to be Marvel?s strongest title as Brubaker is giving us a run that is certain to be viewed as one of the more legendary runs that you will find on any title. It seems that Brubaker simply can do no wrong with Captain America. Last issue had an excellent hook ending and I am excited to see if the man at the end of the last issue really is the 1950?s Captain America. Let?s hit this review for Captain America #38.Creative TeamWriter: Ed BrubakerPencils: Steve EptingInks: Steve Epting & Mike PerkinsArt Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with the Steve Rogers look-a-like asking Sharon if she knows who he is. Sharon realizes that this is none other than the 1950?s Captain America. Jack Monroe served as his Bucky. That the 1950?s Captain America had surgery to make him look identical to Steve Rogers. ...
Captain America Is A War Hero
2008-05-24 01:14:00 Captain America Is A War HeroMarvel Origin Story To Be Set In WWIISource: CHUD If you?re a Captain America fan, today is a good day. Ever since Marvel revealed its plans to make a Cap movie a few weeks back, the rumour mill has been rapidly a-turning as to how it?s all going to pan out? Will it be set in the modern day? Will the flag-waving hero be contemporised? Will Matthew McConaughey be donning the Lycra? Well, in a state of the comic universe address to CHUD.com, Marvel Studios President of Production Kevin Feige has spoken out to set a few facts straight. Firstly, and perhaps most importantly, he revealed that The First Avenger: Captain America (not Captain America: The First Avenger as originally reported) will be a period flick set during World War II. That?s great news for true believers as it follows the comic icon?s official origin story ? skinny test subject Steve Rogers volunteers to be injected with a Super-Soldier serum that wi...

Captain America will be set in World War 2
2008-05-22 08:03:00 Apparently a big pile of media types got to sit in with Kevin Feige and chatting worked its way around to questions about Marvel Films. Specifically Captain America and his two appearances slated for 2011 films, The First Avenger:Captian America and The Avengers later that summer. IESB.net says:IESB asked Feige if the Captain America film would be a period piece. He confirmed yes, the story will take place during World War II, just like the comic book origin story. He says they plan to remain very faithful to the source material and completely traditional. Feige also confirmed that it was definitely the Captain America shield that was seen in IRON MAN on Tony Stark?s work-station as he?s removing his suit for the first time. It?s just an Easter Egg and probably won?t have anything to do with the Capt. America story I like that they confirmed the Easter Egg bit in IronMan as I tend to geek out about movie crossovers and tributes (you should have seen me go into fanboy mode in the X...

Fate of Ghost Rider 2 uncertain
2008-05-09 19:16:00 ?Iron Man 2?, ?The Avengers?, ?Captain America?, and ?Thor?. It?d be hard to pack more awesome in Marvel?s upcoming slate than is already there, especially now that they own their own properties and can cross mingle their franchises. But what of the titles that aren?t there? Films like ?Magneto,? ?Spider-Man 4,? and ?Ghost Rider 2.? Are they still in the pipeline? The simple answer, of course, is that Marvel doesn?t own the rights to those films, and that they are going ahead as previously scheduled with other studios. Or not. Consider ?Ghost Rider 2.? Although producer and former Marvel head honcho Avi Arad claimed last year that they were developing a sequel to the Nic Cage starrer about Johnny Blaze, a hero who is literally hell on wheels, that plan has either stalled or been completely abandoned, said star Eva Mendes, insisting to MTV News that she hasn?t so much as heard even the teensiest rumor about a big-screen follow-up. Warts and all, it?s not like the first film wasn...

Everything I need to know in life, I learned from Captain America
2008-05-07 01:19:00 I saw the new movie Ironman over the weekend, and it was spectacular! From the previews I had seen, I was very excited to see it, and I already thought it was going to be super cool, but it greatly exceeded my expectations. It had a great story, great special effects, lots of action, some very humorous moments throughout, and it was all about one of my favorite topics -- superheroes! Seeing Ironman -- coupled with the fact that my unwritten topic list already included a column about kids and comic books -- inspired me to write today's Mr. Teacher column over on education.com. I could talk for hours about comic books and superheroes, but I kept the focus of this column on the benefits kids can obtain by reading comic books. Check it out, and until later, Excelsior!! Read all about Jack Woodson and his first year as a teacher in Learn Me Good, available at Amazon.com! Start with a preview here.

Matthew McConaughey Possibly Captain America
2008-05-06 13:19:00 Say it ain't so! Hot on the heels of Marvel's announcement yesterday of a Captain America movie for 2011, a scoop from Cinema Blend names Matthew McConaughey is one of the actors in the running for the lead role.It would easily be the biggest travesty in all of Marvel history if McConaughey was cast as Captain America. The scoop says that although the film is still three years out from release, they're currently searching for their star and he is one of the few that is being considered. I really hate talking about rumors like this, but everyone is hungry for something to chew on after Marvel's announcement and here it is. While Cinema Blend claims their source is reliable, this whole idea is not only a bit far fetched, but a final decision won't be made for quite some time. In case you're not familiar with Captain America, he is (typically) the altar ego of Steve Rogers, a sickly young man who was enhanced to the peak of human perfection by an experimental serum in order to ai...

Captain America & Avengers Get Dates
2008-05-06 00:13:00 Captain America & Avengers Get DatesAlso, Iron Man is a cast iron hitSource: Yahoo Marvel Studios is feeling pretty confident right about now. Iron Man is their first release since establishing themselves as a mini-studio and, well, it made bucketloads of cash over the weekend. The Robert Downey Jr starrer took an estimated $104.2 million in the US and some $201 million worldwide. That's already over its $150 million budget and makes it the tenth biggest opening of all time.Understandably, Marvel is now riding that huge wave and today announced their slate for the next three years. Least surprising was the declaration that Iron Man will fly again on April 30, 2010, exactly two years away after the first.Matthew Vaughn's Thor seems to have been rescued from the no-man's land in which it was dwelling, with a release date of June 4, 2010. Things had gone very quiet on the film, with some indications that it might never be made ? Vaughn ha...

?Iron Man? Sits Indisputably in Club of Highest-Rated Superhero Movies Ever
2008-05-02 18:53:00 CHICAGO ? Move over, Superman. This lush, high-octane playboy never tasted so good. Robert Downey Jr. fittingly opens ?Iron Man? with a cocktail in hand and all the arrogance in the world. As the story goes, his conceit is indeed respected as Earth is his oyster both for the playing and for the taking. With the American marketing machine in full effect for 2008?s first summer blockbuster, the inaugural one lives up to the buildup. ?Iron Man? has already not only etched itself the mark of the first indisputable blockbuster of 2008 and one of the best-reviewed films so far in 2008 but also one of the highest-rated superhero movies of all time ? yes, of all time. The film deserves every million it makes. Read Adam Fendelman?s full review of ?Iron Man? in our reviews section.View our massive, high-resolution ?Iron Man? image gallery. Comic Book Review: Captain America #37
2008-04-18 15:00:00 Captain America is arguably the best title that Marvel publishes. The Revolution has continually trumpeted Brubaker?s impressive work on this title. It defies any and all common sense that titles like New Avengers, Amazing Spider-Man and the Ultimates 3 that aren?t a tenth of the quality of Captain America still post larger sales numbers. At any rate, I am confident that Captain America #37 will be another superlative issue.Creative TeamWriter: Ed BrubakerArtist: Steve EptingArt Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Story Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Overall Rating: 8 Night Girls out of 10Synopsis: We begin with a flashback scene to August of 1944 when the victorious American army rolled through Paris, France freshly liberated from the Nazis. However, this award came down to a very close race between Iron Man #27 and Captain America #36. This was such a tough decision and Captain America #36 just narrowly edged out Iron Man #27. 2008-03-22 18:18:00 I don?t know how much more I can praise Captain America. This title is the pride and joy of Marvel Comics. Captain America #34
2008-02-02 18:21:00 After a few false starts, I think I've finally found a good jumping-on point for this universally-acclaimed series. I've bought a few issues here and there in the past year after the inundation of hype and awards, and they all just kind of left me blank. But this one's good enough, I think, to finally get me to add it to my pull list. If only it had Steve Rogers still. I mean, what kind of name is "Bucky" anyway? "My name's Bucky, and I'm here to rescue you." Doesn't exactly instill a lot of confidence. But I digress.

2008-02-01 18:34:00 The Revolution is running out of compliments to lavish upon Brubaker?s Captain America. I know that my reviews have to start feeling repetitive and bordering on the ramblings of a sycophant. However, the fact is that Captain America truly is a stunning piece of work. Marvel May Be Going to Extremes to Bring Back Captain America
2007-12-21 23:01:00 Marvel Comics killed off Captain America this summer, but what is this: Police in the Lake District have been left baffled by the discovery of a man’s body encased in ice. The body was spotted by a local farmer, Cumbria police said. But it was unclear how it came to be on the side of a field at Black Hall, near Broughton-in-Furness, nor how long it had been there. The man’s identity is not known, and police said the find was not being treated as suspicious. A police spokeswoman said: “The body was found encased in 2 inches of ice. The return of Steve Rogers? Captain America in Marvel Knights quagmire again?
2007-08-20 18:59:00 What's this here? David Morrell, the author who'd created Rambo, is writing some kind of miniseries about Captain America ("The Chosen") as seen through the eyes of a soldier in Afghanistan, and which, yes, does appear to be just a flashback story. But there's at least two reasons to keep expectations on this to minimum: one, because Morrell may be chummy with Max Allan Collins, who if memory serves, supported the anti-American steps taken with Cap a few years ago by writing an introduction to the trade paperback of the Marvel Knights series at the time in which he attacked "jingoism". And two, because this miniseries, just like the Marvel Knights series, seems to put Cap into real life settings in ways that could trivialize the tragedies in real life:Another unique element of Morrell's Captain America story is the story's setting. "My story could have happened anytime after 9-11 because there are a lot of references to 9-11," Morrell said. "There are pictures of the Cole after...

There won't be anyone running around in a Cap costume in the book for a long time, honestly. This is the start of an epic, and I'm going to let the story unfold at the proper pace. We've got a lot more eyes on us all of a sudden, so I don't want to mess up any detail. The scope here is grand.I'm not impressed. For some time, they've been making it sound as though they're building up to something, yet are clearly trying to fleece the audience by dragging things on and on with no clear way to tell if this is ever going to have a decent ending to it. That and whole idea of not letting the audience know exactly what's to come are dishonest.I see no reason to read this current series if they're g...
Fallen Son - The Death of Captain America - Captain America (Marvel) Comic
2007-05-16 18:42:00 So, this is probably the most anticipated of the “Fallen Son” books…for me anyway…and I have to say that when the issue was over, I was satisfied with it, I enjoyed it, and I would recommend it. That’s about all I can say without revealing any spoilers. Let me also comment, in this spoiler-free section, ...
Captain America DVD
2007-05-10 15:07:00 Steve Rogers, born during the the time of Depression and a frail youth that grew up in a poor family. His father died when he was just a child, his mother died when he was in his late teens. Horrified by newsreel footage of the Nazis in Europe, Rogers was inspired to try to enlist in the Army. However, because of his frailty and sickness, he was rejected. Captain America, Is He Really Dead?
2007-04-25 07:40:00 I have a bone to pick. Is Captain America really dead? I think not! Recently Marvel did something awful, they killed there most recognizable character. I wouldn't have a problem with this if he had some sort of "second chance" like Superman. It turns out Cap is human after all and can die just like any other person, making him officially an American Hero not a Superhero. Now recently I saw on T.V. that Captain America was arrested for throwing a burrito at some bitch. WTF? Seriously... isn't he the kind of guy that would throw his shield at her and not damn burrito?! Oh well this such a damn joke. MARVEL is going down, DC Comics for life!!
Could Marvel have "killed off" Captain America because of this?
2007-04-15 06:25:00 Not content with just being anti-American in their storytelling, Marvel's management is now following in the footsteps of Halliburton* (the company Michael Moore profited from even as he attacked them), and doing a deal with Dubai to open a theme park there.FastCompany, a mostly business related blog, wondered if Capt. According to Marvel?s press release, this partnership ?will bring Marvel?s full library of Super Heroes ? including Spider-Man, Iron Man, The X-Men, Incredible Hulk, The Fantastic Four and Silver Surfer ? to Dubai for a major new theme park destination being developed by AAG.? Captain America died just in time.Apparently, there is no longer room in Marvel?s library for ... |
