I served these small, rich but scrumptious treats at work. They were nearly gone, when I went home at noon. I couldn't find Heath Toffee Bits here in Northern Germany, so I used cow candies. It's obvious why they are called cow candies, the official name is Sahne Muh Muhs, in English Cream Moo Moos. I cut them into little pieces. I believe the box actually said creme caramel/flan. It looked so gorgeous and exotic on the box. Like my very own haute dessert.Well, lets just say that it did not taste "hot" at all. Don't let his very English accent fool you, his sweet tooth is all French, thanks to his French mother. Since we've known each other, I've heard nothing but how delicious his mother's crème caramel is, so you can imagine that I entered into this weeks TWD challenge with a bit of trepidation. Don't get me wrong, I cut my teeth on crème brûlée years back, so I'm mostly unphased by the intracacies of the water bath and I understand the gentle touch required for a custard, but I was going up against generations of my boy's mother's family.

2008-03-25 07:00:00 This week Steph from A Whisk and a Spoon chose Caramel-Topped Flan on pages 395-397 from this book. I had no coconut milk at hand, so I used cooking cream with 15 % fat, the full fat version sounded to rich for me. I made another substitution, I used vanilla pod seeds instead of vanilla extract. Although I skimmed off the bubbles and foam, there were lots of holes in the flan. I had only an 18 cm Ø pan on hand, so there were two more small portions left, which my sons enjoyed as Crème brûlèe. Caramel Pear Birthday Drink Recipe
2008-01-24 19:47:00 As anyone who knows me knows I love to try new things...I especially enjoy making & or trying new food or drink recipes, and I like to think the people around me enjoy being the taste testers. Last Sunday while working I decided to tune in to the Food network, one of my favorite channels to watch either while running on the tredmill, or to listen to while working on the computer... so while typed away I just happen to tune into the new show 2 Dudes Catering. Great new show! The specialty drink recipe they had on the Carmel Pear sounded so completely yummy I had to stop working and log on to the food network to print it out. I made this cake for the first time last year, posted this pretty picture and promised to write down the recipe on this blog and never did. I have received many requests for it over the past few weeks months so I finally got my act together and wrote it down. Sorry for those who emailed about it six months ago...I keep being distracted by more pastries and desserts every day! In mixing bowl, beat eggs slightly with fork. Add sugar, stirring until dissolved. Stir in topping and butter; mix well. Stir in pecan halves. Pour filling into pie shell.
