Los Campesinos!: Live at Cardiff Solus. April 10, 2008
2008-04-21 01:17:00 I'd usually start off with a review of the support band(s) but in this case I shall not. A search for a cherry pie put pay to most of 'Little My's set although they did look like a lot of fun, from what I saw. The less said about the next support band 'Lovvers' the better. They did seem to be a little stuck in 1992.Los Campesinos! however, were absolutely everything I'd dreamed of, and more. They played everything I wanted them to, including a lovely rendition of Frontwards, a pavement song they are very nearly making their own. Returning to the venue where they'd played their first ever gig the band seemed in good spirits, or maybe it was just knowing they were to appear on Soccer AM at the weekend? (very funny watch)I'm going to see Vampire Weekend in less than 2 weeks. Vampire Weekend and Los Campesinos! are undoubtedly responsible for my two favourite debut albums of 2008 (so far). Now I'll get to see how their live shows compete. From the hometown show Los Campesinos! ...

No, I am not certain, but I believe they don't have to for 6 months and then they pay 50% Too many flats and not enough amenities say experts so why are we knocking down pubs to build more flats???Q. 2008-03-17 15:13:00 Why the secrecy??? Tell us whats happening!!!Ask your councillor for a clear statement on why the application was pulled from the Agenda. The officers can't say if the "applicant" withdrew it, only senior officers, and that the senior officer in 'development control' decided to "pull" it from the Agenda - but the Cttee chair may still make a statement.Meantime, today's deadline for objecting to the amended plan will be treated loosely. Save Bute Park from Cardiff Council
2008-03-11 13:37:00 Necessary Maintainance? = Vandalism?or Just getting ready for the unneccessary ROAD without planning permission? Hope you were appalled! Are the Council officers covering up this unlawful action ahead of planning permission. Will you support action against those responsible? The planning services have the duty of protecting other important trees and hedgerows. Although it is possible to make TPOs on any trees, in practice they are most commonly used in urban and semi-urban settings, for example gardens and parkland. A TPO is to protect trees for the public's enjoyment. It is made for the 'amenity' of the tree or woodland, and this can include its nature conservation value but more often means ...

The Tarnishing of the F A Cup
2008-03-09 21:25:00 For the uninformed the F. A. Cup is the equivalent of the Super Bowl in the States, a very prestigious honour. The first game was in the 1871-2 season; the Wanderers won, beating a team from the Royal Engineers 1-0. In 1923 Wembley Stadium was completed as the showcase of English football, and to celebrate the occasion Bolton beat West Ham 2-0. Since Wembley was destroyed, (and rebuilt to host this year's Cup final) and the final played at other locations there seems to have a insignificance given to this oldest of competitions. I believe the glory years are gone from the F.A. Cup, which is unfortunate as it is truly the only significant English competition left.Managers do not seem to appreciate the history of the cup, and now we find them using it, as they do the Football League Cup, to field experimental weaker teams. (The League Cup is a competition limited to teams just within the four professional leagues of England, 72 teams, while the F A Cup's initial rounds are also ope...

Gig Review - Blood Red Shoes (at Clwb Ifor Bach, Cardiff)
2008-02-04 22:00:00 I recently saw Blood Red Shoes in Cardiff at Clwb Ifor Bach. So here's a little review...First band up were She Set Sail, a local South Wales alternative rock band from Cardiff. The band comprises of Lee Smith (Bass), Jonny Payne (Guitar/Vocals), and Sam Vanttinen Newton (Drums). I was pretty impressed with these guys display, as it looked as if this was the first time they have played on such a stage, and they did well. With each song the band clearly grew in confidence, particuarly frontman Jonny Payne who seems a real talent. I think She Set Sail definatley have some potential, and the more gigs they play will only help to further this. She Set SailNext up from Nottingham were noisy punk rockers, Lovvers. The band features Shaun Hencher (vocals) who was previously in The Murder Of Rosa Luxemburg, alongside Michael Drake (Bass), Henry Withers (Guitar), and Stephen Rose (Drums). I was really impressed with Lovvers, who put on an angst filled moody performance that was full of ener...

Gig Review - The Wombats at Cardiff Uni
2007-12-15 19:30:00 As part of my birthday celebrations I recently went to see The Wombats at Cardiff University. So here's a little review for y'all. (Photos courtesy of Miss Kelly Shaw)The first band up were Tinseltown.Tinseltown are a 5 piece hailing from London, led by vocalist Romily Alice. They play a infectious blend of poppy indie punk rock. All the members of the band are pretty young, but already they are supporting bands such as Babyshambles and CSS. As for their set I wasn't convinced straight away, but they won me over. Singer Romily Alice has definite talent, there's something unique about her voice which sets the band apart. Tinseltown clearly have potential and i'm sure 2008 will be a good year for them.MP3: Tinseltown - SkeletonsThe second band on stage were To My Boy.To My Boy are two men with guitars from Liverpool, and their assorted electronic equipment. I guess you could describe their sound as a combination of powerpop, indie, and electronica. What I like about To My Boy is ...
