CPR: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
2007-09-22 15:02:00
It would be wonderful if everyone knew how to administer CPR. When performed correctly, CPR can save a person's life by restoring breathing and circulation until advanced life support can be given by health care providers. CPR stands for cardiopulmonary resuscitation, a combination of rescue breathing (mouth-to-mouth resuscitation) and chest compressions. If a person isn't breathing or circulating blood adequately, CPR can restore circulation of oxygen-rich blood to the brain. Without oxygen, permanent brain damage or death can occur in less than 8 minutes.CPR may be necessary for people during many different emergencies, including accidents, near-drowning, suffocation, poisoning, smoke inhalation, electrocution injuries, and suspected sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).Reading about CPR and learning when it's needed will give you a basic understanding of the concept and procedure, but it's strongly recommended that you learn the details of how to perform CPR by taking a course...

In our day to day life, We may face with emergency situations when a person near might collapse or stop breathing and you don't know what to do. So I am jotting down some basics of Resuscitation,... To Know More Read the Full Article !!
Cardiopulmonary:Abciximab plus stenting
2007-08-20 18:33:00
Abciximab (platelet surface glycoprotein Ilb/IIIa receptor-blocking monoclonal Fab fragment antibody) reduces the short-term ischaemic complications of coronary balloon angio-plasty. Coronary stenting reduces the longer-term hazards of restenosis. Now data from the EPISTENT trial in the USA have shown the benefit of combining abciximab and stenting. Some 2400 patients were randomised to abciximab plus stenting (AS), abciximab ...

Cardiopulmonary:MI treatment in the elderly
2007-08-20 18:32:00
Percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) has advantages over early thrombolysis in the treatment of middle-aged patients with acute myocardial infarction. Now a US study has shown some benefit from PTCA in older patients. Of over 80 000 patients (mean age 73) who arrived at hospital within 12 hours of symptom onset and did not have cardiogenic ...

The Global Use of Strategies to Open Occluded Coronary Arteries (GUSTO) IIb trial included 8480 men and 3662 women with acute coronary syndromes. Data from this trial have been re-examined for sex differences in presentation and outcome.

There is controversy about the relative risks of death soon after myocardial infarction in men and women after age and other risk factors are taken into account. A US study suggested that younger women (under 65) may be more at risk relative to men of the same age. Now the same workers have collected more ...

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
2007-06-03 15:33:00
What Is CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)CPR is combination of rescue breathing(to get oxygen to the lungs) and chest compressions (to keep blood circulating) delivered to victims to save of patient life when a person experiences cardiac arrest, whether due to heart failure in adults and the elderly or an injury such as near drowning, suffocation, poisoning, smoke inhalation, electrocution or severe trauma in the child and newborn.Cardiac arrest is often caused by an abnormal heart rhythm called ventricular fibrillation (VF). When VF develops, the heart quivers and doesn't pump blood. The victim in VF cardiac arrest needs CPR and delivery of a shock to the heart, called defibrillation. Defibrillation eliminates the abnormal VF heart rhythm and allows the normal rhythm to resume. Defibrillation is not effective for all forms of cardiac arrest but it is effective to treat VF, the most common cause of sudden cardiac arrest.CPR may not save to the victim even when performed proper...
