Reforming The Caribbean Series
2012-02-09 10:30:00 The Lions of Escogido of the Dominican Republic were crowned champions of the 2012 Caribbean Series ? a series that ended with a whimper instead of a roar. These are my ideas as to how to make the Series better. This year?s 2012 Caribbean Series left much to be desired. …

Caribbean Series Concludes
2008-02-09 04:30:00 Caribbean Series Concludes The 2008 Caribbean Series has concluded, with Licey of the Dominican Republic winning its 10th title. This year?s version, in my opinion, should be remembered as a farce for two reasons.

Caribbean Series ‘08: Day Four
2008-02-06 17:11:00 It’s down to the Dominicans. Licey’s victory over Venezuela in the early game eliminated both Venezuela and Mexico from any chance at the title; the Eagles kept pace by beating Mexico in the nightcap, behind the pitching of wild thing Joselo Diaz. As promised in my column, I didn’t catch the nightcap, but the early game was intense, and well-pitched. DR2’s starter, Francisco Rosario, kept the Venezuelans under control through six; Venezuela returned the favor, despite pulling starter Rosman Garcia after just 53 pitches. The Dominicans finally broke through in the seventh, with a tough sequence for Venezuelan catcher Richard Paz–first he was unable to block a wild pitch, then he misplayed a Timo Perez bunt, for an error–all setting up a run-scoring fielder’s choice I’m not entirely sure wasn’t actually an inning-ending double play. The Venezuelans rallied in the eighth, on a homer by Alex Delgado–hardly a power hitter, given...

Caribbean Series ?08 Extra
2008-02-05 02:38:00 SANTIAGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC — There wasn’t enough room in today’s column for it, but given that I’ve made such a deal of hating the Super Bowl, to the point of going into exile to avoid it, I have an admission to make. I actually enjoyed this year’s game. There was a constant battle over the ...

Caribbean Series: Round Robin Preview
2008-02-02 08:32:00 PUERTO PLATA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC — It’s time once again to leave football-obsessed North America for warmer climes, where baseball is king, year-round. The northlands may have those major leagues and their multimillion dollar contracts, but for this week, the capital of hardball is the city of Santiago, in the center of the Dominican Republic, where ...

Gomez pulled from Caribbean Series ?
2008-01-29 03:23:00 According to a report today in Impacto Deportivo the Mets have told Carlos Gomez not to play in the Caribean winter league series. I'm a little rusty, but it sounds like it was definately the Mets decision to pull him and not Gomez's request to sit. Please take this information with a grain of salt, remember the source and that they haven't been the most accurate this off-season. But if this is true, it could be an indication that a trade is immient and they don't want him getting hurt.

Carlos Gomez Denied Permission For Caribbean Series?
2008-01-28 21:23:00 This Impacto Deportivo article is making the rounds tonight. Here it is in Google Translate. The article says that the Mets probably will not give to permission Carlos Gomez to play in the Caribbean Series. Gomez's family does not seem to expect it, at least. I am not sure if this has trade implications or even counts as abnormal. If any native Spanish speakers are able to glean additional details from the article, please let us know in the comments!
