Where are you Carlos Quentin?

I got to see first hand how losing one of your hitters can completely disable a lineup this year at the High School level.  Our team finished the season with a 16-11 record.  We began the year 6-1 and on a roll.  We lost our #3 hitter to a broken finger and a week later our #5 hitter to a broken thumb.  For five weeks we were a miserable team, never being able to get over the hump.  We struggled through a 2-7 stint!  Our guys got healthy and we finished the season strong with an 8-3 record with all three losses coming in extra innings. We just were a different team at full strength.   Hopefully the White Sox can...

Line of the Day: Carlos Quentin
2008-05-26 01:58:00
Near the end of the second week of April, I picked up Carlos Quentin in both my bloggers league and my money league. He's still on my bloggers league team today. (Hell, he's probably my best player.) In my money league, I cut him about three days after I picked him up for Ryan Church. Church has been very good this year, but I'm pretty sure I'll be regretting that move for a long, long time.Carlos Quentin: 3-for-3, 2 runs, 2 HR, 3 RBI
Carlos Quentin Off To Hot Start

25 year-old White Sox left fielder Carlos Quentin is off to a blazing start with a .312/.454/.623 line in 77 at-bats. Roto-wise, that's .312-6-20-20-2. Using a complicated projection method (multiplying everything by six) we get a season line of .312-36-120-120-12....
Carlos Quentin (OF-CHW)

Quentin entered Sunday's game with a mere 27 at-bats, limited by a brief bout of residual pain from offseason surgery on his left shoulder and a battle with the flu. He made the most out of his Sunday swings, knocking out his first Cactus League home run and doubling home two runs.

This time last year, there were two young Arizona Diamondback outfielders who many people were very excited about. One of them, Chris Young, went on to more than live up to expectations, as he blasted 32 home runs and stole 27 bases. Fast forward 12 months, and he is justifiably ...

Carlos Quentin, 2007 Sleeper?
2007-12-07 21:47:00
When the White Sox acquired 2nd-year rightfielder Carlos Quentin from the Arizona Diamondbacks for Low A sluggin 1B Chris Carter, my first reaction was the value of 0-3 year OF has plummetted. After all the Mets had just dealt OF Lastings Milledge for a catcher who can't hit and a 29-year-old good-side-of-the-platoon OF. My next reaction was to view Quentin a a quality sleeper for 2008 as the under-whleming efforts in his first two stints in the majors, along with the price paid to acquire him, will keep his value low. With reports about his shoulder surgery involving just his throwing arm, the implication is it won't keep him from playing the outfield and most of the season. Given I am more concerned about his fantasy production, though, my concern is what shoulder is his front shoulder while he bats because the front shoulder is the arm that swings the holds the bat through the entire at-bat. Last season, J.D. Drew and Mark Teahen both saw dramatic drops in HRs after having thei...
Odds and Ends: Cliff Lee, Edwin Jackson
2007-12-04 17:52:00
You know the drill... Nick Piecoro checks in on his blog.  Apparently the D'Backs discussed swapping Carlos Quentin for Cliff Lee before sending him to Chicago.  As much as he might've liked to it seems like Josh Byrnes couldn't get a starter for Quentin. Geoff Baker links the Mariners to Lee,  Ben Sheets, Mark Prior, and Edwin Jackson based on yesterday's buzz.  The Sheets one has since been questioned, since the Dodgers were identified as the West Coast team that inquired.  Prior could be part of a Raul Ibanez trade, but the Cubs are first focusing on Fukudome.  As for Jackson, the Rays would want more than just Ben Broussard. John Fay believes the Reds will have to part with Jay Bruce or Homer Bailey to get a frontline starter. showad();
Carlos Quentin is Deep
2007-12-04 07:45:00
New White Sox outfielder Carlos Quentin doesn’t just have all five conventional baseball tools, he has a 6th tool—perspective. The above video aside, I love the deal for the White Sox. Anytime you can trade a guy in single A for a legitimate major league-ready outfield prospect, it’s a good deal.
White Sox acquire OF Carlos Quentin from Arizona for minor leaguer (AP)

The Chicago White Sox added depth to their inexperienced outfield Monday, acquiring Carlos Quentin from the Arizona Diamondbacks for minor league first baseman Chris Carter. Once considered a top prospect, Quentin batted .214 with five home runs and 31 RBIs in 81 games for the NL West champions this season. Read the full story.
Diamondbacks Sign Byrnes To Extension
2007-08-07 19:31:00
According to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic, the Diamondbacks have reached an accord with outfielder Eric Byrnes in the $30MM over three years.  Piecoro believes that the fallout of the deal will be a trade of right fielder Carlos Quentin. Byrnes, 31, can play all three outfield positions.  He's having the best season of his career, hitting .303/.365/.497 while shuffling between the first four spots in the batting order.  Long-term, it looks like the Diamondbacks plan on using Byrnes in left field, Chris Young in center, and Justin Upton in right.  It's possible Young and Upton will swap positions, but you really can't go wrong either way. Was Byrnes worth it?  PECOTA would say no, instead valuing Byrnes closer to the Diamondbacks' original offer of $22.5MM.  However, Josh Byrnes ultimately decided to spend the extra $7.5MM to retain one of the team's veteran leaders and popular players.  And 3/30 is undoubtedly a below-market deal given...
Tim Brown's Latest: Cordero, Quentin
2007-07-31 18:50:00
UPDATE: You can throw Conor Jackson into the mix along with Quentin. Yahoo's Tim Brown has some new rumors and info: Plan B if the Red Sox can't get Eric Gagne: Washington's Chad Cordero.  It seems Wily Mo Pena would be a part of that, but I imagine Jim Bowden would want a top prospect as well. The Diamondbacks are shopping Carlos Quentin for a starting pitcher; the Indians and Nationals have interest.  Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch says the Indians are willing to deal Cliff Lee, so maybe there's a match there.  And keep in mind that former Diamondbacks Director of Scouting Mike Rizzo now works as the Nationals' Assistant GM and VP of Baseball Operations.  Rizzo still has a lot of Arizona connections, and he definitely loves Quentin. Interestingly, Will Carroll indicates that Justin Upton may be on the verge of a callup.

Quentin got Saturday off after injuring his left shoulder on Friday. It doesn't appear to be serious but he'll likely undergo an MRI to make sure.
