Cruising for profits with Carnival (CCL)
2008-07-15 01:00:00
"If you think filling up an SUV is painful, try footing the bill for a massive 1,000-foot ocean liner -- or in the case of Carnival Cruise Lines (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=) (NYSE: CCL (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=ccl)), an entire fleet of 84 floating cities," notes value investor Nathan Slaughter (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=2189).In- his Half-Priced Stocks (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/ccount/click.php?id=2189) he explains, "Despite unprecedented fuel costs, the company continues to power forward." Here's his bullish review. "Last quarter, Carnival shelled out $530 per metric ton for fuel, up sharply from $330 per ton a year ago. And after pumping about 800,000 metric tons, the company rang up a total fuel bill of $425 million. "For the year, management is expecting fuel costs to come in about $750 million higher than in 2007, which will trim earnings by about $0.92 per share. Fortunately, the company is in a pos...

1. HistoryLast year end of May, Sadiq Alam and Tiel Aisha Ansari jointly hosted the 1st Edition of Online Sufi Poetry Carnival. ThemeThe past round's theme was "Celebrating Divine Love" and this time around it is "Knocking from Inside".Sufi Dervishes are people who live at the threshold of this world and the next, between the visible world and the unseen realm. The truest and deepest expressions of sufi poetry arrive from lived experiences within and it's the ecstasy of soul that knocks from inside on the door of our external world. Daniel Abdal Hayy Moore once expressed: "the province of poetry is a private ecstasy made public."On the idea of "Knocking from Inside" Rumi says (translated...

Metta Charity Walk cum Family Carnival 2008
2008-06-09 13:13:00
8 June 2008At 8am, my Aunt, Mother and I reported to the Volunteers registration booth at Metta School [32 Simei Street 1]. The Volunteer Executive, Eilynn, handed us our Tshirt and directed us to our booth. The Metta Charity Walk cum Family Carnival is an annual event organised to raise funds for the Metta Welfare Association. The Carnival sees booths set up by various business owners and volunteers who donates all proceeds generated to charity. I had attended and volunteered for the previous year. This year, I brought along my family and had fun doing our part for charity.Since we were early, we browsed the Happy Arts Deli cafe for breakfast. The cafe features vegetarian delicacies. When the boxes arrived for our booth, we began unpacking the Lavender products from the Gift Cottage. I watched along as Mother and Aunt discussed over what was the best layout for the booth. A great opportunity for the two adults to immerse themselves with hands-on training for entrepreneurship. The Gue...

Cookie Carnival: May - Blueberry Drop Cookies
2008-06-02 08:35:00
To be fair, these little cookies got relegated to the bottom of my priority list, in light of all the other baking projects I was working on the last couple of weeks. Not that I wasn't excited about participating in another installment of Cookie Carnival, it’s just that when I scanned the recipe I thought it looked easy-peasy and as I had until the end of May, I parked it to be made closer to the deadline date. Of course, today is June 2nd, isn't it? So what happened?

92nd Carnival of Real Estate - All About Efficiency
2008-05-27 15:30:00
Welcome to the 92nd Carnival of Real Estate. I was asked to host on short notice and given this was a holiday weekend known for kicking off the summer driving season, I thought the theme should revolve around efficiency in real estate blog posts. With gas at all time highs and with no sign of dropping, efficiency is going to become important for all of us.Given the theme, I thought I would assign a vehicle ranking to the selected posts. There were a lot of great posts but choosing "winners" based on efficiency of making the point instead of content or grammar or even the subject removed any singular victor. Please congratulate the top group - the Tesla Roadsters that made their points clearly and concisely. John Lockwood presents Are Short Sales Fake Listings? posted at Sacramento Real Estate Blog. This post effectively points out only 5% of short sales actually sell. Interesting news considering this market. What's selling the most? Read on for more.Cliff Jacobson presents How We Ch...
Carnival of Captions
2008-05-27 12:43:00
Caption Contest Thursdays are the most commented on posts by far here on GorillaSushi.com.   I've seen quite a few people try their own caption contest but because their readership was still on the smaller side (and/or other reasons), they didn't get much of a response and ended up scrapping the idea.   In response to that (and because I think it would be fun) I'm starting a blog carnival for caption contests!   Below I'll briefly cover over... How to set up your own caption contest What is a blog carnival How to join the carnival How to set up your own caption contest Your own caption contest should be reflective of your blog and its readers. There aren't too many tips I can give that would be universally perfect but here's a few general ideas.   Picture: A good caption picture should have a subject that's open to interpretation. Avoid picking a subject that has one very obvious caption.   Frequency: Weekly works well for me. Experiment.   R...
