2007-11-30 05:13:00 James Taylor and Carole King played the first of their six nights at the Troubadour in celebration of the club's fiftieth anniversary.Unlike their first appearances at the club, this time they both took the stage and traded songs throughout the evening up until their final duets of King's You've Got a Friend and Up on the Roof. The pair were backed by the band they used on their early-70's albums with Russ Kunkel on drums, Danny Kortchmar on guitar and Lee Sklar on base.To add to the love fest, King paid tribute to ex-husband and writing partner Gerry Goffin, who was in attendance, along with other Brill Building writers like Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil and Carole Bayer Sager.To really give a flavor for those early appearances, the pair stuck with period songs, King sticking with Tapestry and Taylor relying on his self-titled Apple album and first two LPs for Warner Brothers.The set list from Wednesday's show:Blossom (Taylor)So Far Away (King)Machine Gun Kelly (Taylor)Caroli...

2007-11-22 00:07:00 Back in November of 1969, Carole King made her first appearance as a solo artist at the Troubadour in Los Angeles. Although an extremely successful songwriter, she was just beginning a journey that would lead to one of the best selling albums of all-time, Tapestry. On that night, King opened for James Taylor, who had recently released his first solo album on Apple Records.Thirty-Eight years later the two are coming together for a three night stint (November 28, 29 and 30) at the club to help the Troubadour celebrate its fiftieth anniversary.Brian Smith, the booker for the club, said ?James Taylor is an artist that helped define the room and establish it as the most famous night club in the country.
