Grading The Draft: 1999
2008-05-28 23:07:00 I decided to really take a close look at how good the Eagles have been at finding talent in the NFL draft. I will go over every draft since Andy Reid has been here, and give each player a grade. Now keep in mind Andy Reid has only technically been the GM since 2002, but he ...

DeSean Jackson Scouting Report
2008-04-28 09:52:00 This is a quick scouting report from an ESPN “draft expert” Todd McShay before the draft on new Eagle WR DeSean Jackson. He really rips into Jackson when he says he will be a productive number 2 WR at best. McShay, like many others seem to have doubts about Jackson, because of his size. I guess everybody has ...
Eagles Trade The 19th Pick
2008-04-26 23:16:00 UPDATE! Eagles get Carolina’s next years 1st, this years 2nd, and this years 4th! In my opinion the Eagles just fleeced the Panthers. With Branden Albert and Chris Williams off the board, the Eagles backed out of this first round for next year. Getting an extra 2nd, and a 4th on top of that makes this a ...

Fan Debate: Carolina Panthers Fans want MORE for DE Julius Peppers
2008-03-26 12:30:00 So I know I said I was sick of "Trade Talk", but I didnt say anything about good-spirited fan-base to fan-base trade talk. Over the past couple weeks I've discussed the Bucs potential to Trade for the Carolina Panthers DE Julius Peppers who is rumored to be on the trading block... I polled fellow Bucs Fans on whether they would be interested in trading for Peppers and an overwhelming majority said YES!, trade for Julius... and so I made a trade offer to Jaxon over at Cat Scratch Reader, our Carolina Panthers Blog. The offer was as follows: The Tampa Bay Buccaneers 2008 1st round draft pick (#20) and the Buc's 2009 3rd round draft pick. The majority of that fan base either wanted more in return (41%) or wanted no part of trading Peppers period (47%)... My question to you is, Should we up the ante for DE Julius Peppers? To be honest, I was thinking about counter-offering with our '08 2nd Round Draft Pick and MLB Barrett Ruud... I know Ruud led the team in tackles, is young, and...

Carolina Panthers DE Julius Peppers on Trade Market?
2008-03-12 02:27:00 Word on the street is... The Carolina Panthers are shopping DE Julius Peppers!!! You all know how much I would LOVE to have JP in a Bucs Jersey. As evidence by the shameless "Julius Peppers Countdown to Free Agency" in this sites sidebar. The guy had a down year finishing the season with 38 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and 1 interception. At 5.5 Million for '07 I'm sure Panthers fans were looking for more out of The MAN. At any rate, his track record and overall demeanor suggests he'll have a bounce back season. Should the Panthers not extend his contract this off-season, there is no way he won't test Free Agency. If you're the Panthers, why let Peppers walk for nothing? I know interdivision trades are almost blasphemy, but considering there arent many teams lining up to take on Julius' pending contract extension, the Bucs with enormous Cap Space are in a position to take the plunge. With that I ask: surveys - Take Our Poll

In The Red Zone: Patriots News and Notes
2008-03-06 18:00:00 According to Christopher Gasper of the Boston Globe, New England Patriots veteran wide receiver Troy Brown hasn’t made a decision yet about next season and that fans shouldn’t count out a return in 2008 quite just yet. A source close to Brown also said that a decision probably isn’t coming anytime soon either. “He feels great. He feels he can still play and still contribute,” said the source. “Obviously, he would have liked to have played more than that one game he played. I don’t think he’s decided whether he’s playing or not playing. A lot depends on what the Patriots do.” The source also said that either a Patriot return or retiring are not Brown’s only options. Brown would be willing to play elsewhere if there was no room for him here. It sure would be weird seeing Troy in a Dolphins, Jets or Browns uniform. In other Patriots news the team is looking at restricted free agent LB Adam Seward from Carolina Panthers...

I?ve concocted a mixture of NyQuil, liquid Tylenol Flu (extra strength, of course), and cough drops that has at least gotten me to the point where I can sit upright and type. I?m not sure if it?s curing the flu or just making me too high to realize I?m sick. On a possibly related note, I?ve spent the last nine hours watching a Jackass marathon on MTV while eating coffee ice cream directly out of the container. Carolina Panthers: Dwayne Jarrett Is A Dum Dum
2007-11-01 07:08:00 Like most people who followed the USC Trojans in the last few years, I was waiting on Dwayne Jarrett’s entry into the NFL to see how he’d perform with the big boys. Jarrett had a great career at USC with Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush & Lendale White, but things haven’t been as smooth in the ...

Vinny's Back....Again [David Stefanini]
2007-10-11 15:42:00 The Carolina Panthers and QB Vinny Testaverde have agreed on a one-year contract. Here is the story from ESPN.com: "Vinny Testaverde isn't finished yet, even at age 43.The Carolina Panthers, desperate for a quarterback with Jake Delhomme out for the season and David Carr banged up, signed Testaverde to a one-year deal Wednesday. The No. 1 overall pick by Tampa Bay in the 1987 draft, Testaverde wore his familiar No. 16 jersey during practice Wednesday. Something that has also become familiar late in his career are comments from teammates as he comes to the line. "Dad" was a big hit with the Panthers." Comments:I think the term grandfather is more appropriate. I was in my car on my way to school and I heard Mike and Mike say how this is the first time in NFL history that an NFL team has QB's on its roster that were drafted #1 overall. Interestingly enough, Vinny may be starting this week. Delhomme is done for the year, and David Carr is pretty banged up. I never thought I'd see Vin...

2007-10-02 16:32:00 It's time for our weekly look at the latest intellectual debates taking place on sports message boards.ChargersTalk: "The Official Sympathy for Norv Turner and the Chargers Thread. Guys, lets cut this guy some slack please. Give him another chance. Afterall, it takes more than a head coach to lose a game ... Lets hang in there and stop calling for our GM's head too because, he really try to do the best he could given the situation ... I wouldnt mind Norv pulling a motivational stunt and actually flying Marty in to give the players a speech. Hang in there guys, we still have a long way to go. DeAngelo Hall Avoids Suspension For On Field Outburst

Hogs Haven welcomes our Carolina Panthers Blogger
2007-06-01 20:02:00 We welcome blogger Jaxon and Cat Scratch Reader, the newest addition to Sports Blog Nation and rep for the Carolina Panthers. He explained the blog-naming thusly: As I was brainstorming on some name options I thought of a panther scratching with its paw and the first thing that popped in my mind was Ted Nugent's rock anthem Cat Scratch Fever. Except in my inner dialogue it went "CAT! SCRATCH! FEVER! Downt! Downt! Dooow!" like the song goes. But of course I couldn't use it exactly as I certainly don't want the Motor City Madman coming after me considering his affinity for guns. So I replaced "Fever" for "Reader" as you certainly surmised. My hope though is that every time you think of the blog your inner dialogue goes like this "CAT! SCRATCH! READER! Downt Downt Dooow! You can hear it now can't you? Which prompted me to find out if Hogs Haven fits any popular tune. Reader(s), are invited to assist me in that task. Mean-ass looking animal, check. Football related gear, check. This...

Carolina Panthers Cut Keyshawn Johnson
2007-05-02 17:04:00 Carolina Panthers Cut Keyshawn JohnsonBy MIKE CRANSTONAP Sports WriterCHARLOTTE, N.C. -- When the Carolina Panthers drafted Southern California receiver Dwayne Jarrett in the second round Saturday, Keyshawn Johnson was ecstatic."This is a great pick. We need another wide receiver," Johnson gushed while working as a draft analyst for ESPN. "This guy is much like me. I'm going to teach him how to play from the point of attack."He won't get the chance. The Panthers deemed their older former USC receiver was expendable Tuesday. Johnson, the 6-foot-4 possession receiver and 1996 No. 1 overall pick, was released to make way for a younger 6-foot-4 possession receiver taken with the 45th pick."We appreciated the contribution of Keyshawn in his season with the Panthers," coach John Fox said. "He brought us high production, but at this time, we are in a situation in which we have a number of young receivers and thought this was the right time to make the decision."The Panthers also selected ...
The Carolina Panthers had the best day one of any team.
2007-04-29 21:19:00 Yeah, I know I'm a huge homer, but I'm probably one of the biggest critics of John Fox's drafts in the past, because outside of the first round, we haven't done all that well. However, the recent change in philosophy of drafting the best player available seems to be paying dividends. The first pick

SBNation Mock Draft Pick #14 -- Carolina Panthers
2007-04-04 19:05:00 With the 14 pick of the 2007 SBNation Mock NFL Draft, the Carolina Panthers select.... Reggie Nelson, S -- Florida The Panthers have several needs, and the window is closing on a team that was one of the biggest disappointments in the entire league last season. SBNation's soon to be Panther's blogger talks about this in describing his pick.... I know a lot of mock drafts have the Panthers taking a TE or WR but I think Nelson is too good to pass up at position the Panthers have a big need. In 2006/2007 the Panthers struggled at the FS position and eventually moved Minter from SS to FS. This pick will allow Mike Minter to move back to SS (or even move him to the bench). Nate Salley, last years 3rd rounder will continue to back-up the position. This gives the Panthers more flexibility in dealing with Shaun Williams, who just may be released. As a junior this year, Nelson became one of the biggest playmakers in the country. He had 50 tackles, two for loss, and six interceptions...
