I will admit I'm a fan of Luis Castillo, I have been since the first week he was with the team and after a loss he sat in the grass next to the dugout stewing after everyone else left the field. While his range has diminished but he still a solid defender that turns a tremendous double play. Once he gets his bat going it's like having two lead-off hitters at the top of the order. Metsblog is reporting that the Buzz from Shea is that Luis Castillo could land on the DL. As I've said before I think the Mets are slow to put players on the DL especially veterans, if there's a respect of Castillo hurting himself worse or he's a detriment to the team then move him to the DL and bring someone in to fill the roster spot.the buzz from shea suggests Luis Castillo could still end up on the disabled list, though he continues to tell reporters that such a move is not necessary source Metsblog I'm not very comfortable with Easley's, Anderson's or Tatis' defense at second but their decent offensive players and will serve just fine to get us through the DL stint. I'm not sure why there's such animosity towards 2B Luis Castillo, I mean if it's about the contract then that's Omar's fault and if it's that he has balky knees, aren't there fans constantly complaining that Beltran doesn't play on sore knees. From the prospective of being a gamer and playing hurt, showing heart Castillo is the epitome of a competitor.Lets start with the contract, four years 25 mil. (6.25 mil. per year) in today's baseball isn't that big a contract. I agree for a 32 y/o with balky knees it seems a little long, two years with an option would have been more like it but allegedly the Astros were making a big push for Castillo. An extra year on a contract, that I'm not paying for isn't something to dislike a player over and at least now we have solidified second base for the first time in five years. Luis Castillo who only played in the last week of spring training, as he recovered from off-season knee surgery has already missed several games to start the season with knee soreness. Castillo is only hitting .194 and hit in the eighth spot during last night's game. After the game Castillo admitted his knees could use some more rest. This is where I disagree with Omar, I understand that you want to treat veteran players with respect. The veterans are going to lead the team and the reputation you build with veterans goes a long way during free agency. But Omar allows the veterans to dictate their status, even when it leaves the bench/roster short. I think Castillo should be placed on the disabled list (it's early in the season), allow him to go to Florida where the weather is warm and get his knees in major league shape. This would let the team recall Ahern who could help out Easley at second and spell Reyes at short. Ahern hitting eighth is about what your getting out of Castillo...

Willie Randolph demoted the slumping second baseman in favor of right fielder Ryan ChurchRyan Church . Last night marked the first time since 2005, as a Marlin, that Castillo hit as low as eighth. He went 0-for-2 with two walks, dropping his average to .194, while the hot-hitting Church was 1-for-3 to raise his figure to .326. Castillo, who landed a controversial four-year deal worth $25 million from the Mets in the offseason despite arthroscopic knee surgery, said his right knee continues to cause him problems. Asked if he needs some time off, Castillo said: "Sometimes, I do. When I play three or four games in a row, maybe I can get a day off. I'm going to talk to Willie about it."

Luis Castillo left today's game early because his knee stiffened up. Castillo said that it was more of a precautionary measure in the cold weather then anything to be concerned with. Castillo's bat so far this season is more of a concern then his knees are, while I think four years was a little long for him I don't think it was a bad contract. By years end Castillo will be an asset to this team for many of his intangible attributes...The original plan for the Mets was to try and sign David Eckstein as an energizer bunny to play second. But Eckstein’s initial reaction was that he wanted more than the Mets were willing to give and was still trying to be an everyday shortstop. The Mets winning the season opening game, on the back of a fine performance by Johan Santana and an explosive breakout by the offense in the fourth inning. But the media decided to focus on two minor negative incidents that occurred during the game. In the first inning Luis Castillo failed to score from first on a Carlos Beltran bloop hit. Castillo clearly made the mistake of believing the pop-up was going to be caught, which it almost was and slowed down. But the incident was irrelevant in the bigger scheme of things. In the eighth inning Matt Wise was brought in, the new comer has to be tested and it was a perfect situation with a big lead. Willie learned from last year and when Wise struggled he wasn't willing to stick with the pitcher, going with match-ups to get out of the inning. According to Juan C. Rodriguez of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, the Giants claimed infielder Jose Castillo off waivers and the Marlins didn't pull him back.  I believe the Marlins can now either work out a trade with the Giants or just let them have him and his $650K salary.  One of today's writers, Alejandro, noted that Castillo is already on the Giants' 40-man roster on MLB.com. Pure speculation, but this may be a signal that the Giants are done considering trade options such as Wes Helms, Brandon Inge, and Joe Crede.  Giving up something decent for Inge or Crede never made sense for this team anyway.  Castillo probably won't do much for the Giants, but at least he doesn't cost anything.

The Florida Marlins have placed Jose Castillo on waivers, it's not unconditional waivers so they can pull him back and are probably just testing the market. The Marlins are looking for an inexpensive fifth starter and have a glut of relatively cheap infielders. The Marlins appear to be willing to sacrifice defense for offense by going with Jorge Cantu, while McPherson and Amazega would be the back-up utility players. Castillo skipped AAA coming straight to the majors with the Pirates in 2004 as the starting second baseman. Castillo held the position for three years, but in 2007 when he struggled at the plate to start the year he was up-staged by Freddy Sanchez. Castillo is 27 y/o right hander with a lifetime BA .256 and a Slg .380 ( 2006: 25/2B - 14/HR) he can play every infield position and is a defensive up-grade over Gotay. The Marlins put infielder Jose Castillo on waivers today, though they have the option of pulling him back.  It seems like a way to gauge interest.  The Marlins may prefer to let Jorge Cantu play third regularly, as he's had a strong spring and has a decent track record (insert obligatory 117 RBI season mention here).  The Marlins also have Dallas McPherson in the mix if he can get healthy. Castillo could make sense for the Dodgers given his versatility, though he's never hit much.

I've heard alot of negative things said about Luis Castillo from the Mets fan base; he's to old, not that good a hitter, not that much of an up-grade in the field and an injury risk. Most of his detractors are Ruben Gotay fans and while Gotay is younger he isn't better. The book on Gotay is that his foot work is slow which gets the ball to second slower on the double play and risks Reyes knees. Additionally while Castillo isn't going to hit a homerun he is a great contact hitting and has the speed to avoid the double, he is the ideal table setter that the team was missing prior to his arrival. In regards to his injuries Castillo is a fiery competitor and gamer who always plays through his injuries, a personality this team needs. Castillo admitted last year as a mid-season acquisition and in his free agent year he was distracted and plans to be more involved in the clubhouse. Finally Castillo gets the endorsement that counts, Jose Reyes thinks working with him will make him a bet...

El castillo más bonito y mejor conservado de toda la Comunidad de Madrid se encuentra a sólo 50 kilómetros de la ciudad de Madrid, se trata del Castillo de Manzanares el Real, un precioso palacio-fortaleza del siglo XV.Fue mandado construir por los Duques del Infantado durante el reinado de los Reyes Católicos. Alister se levanta y sin decir nada camina hacia el patio exterior y Cliff, lo sigue.Alister abre la puerta de ese lugar que parecía un laboratorio y al oír el ruido de la puerta, la criatura hace invisible al clon y a ella misma. Alister baja y se encuentra con que el útero de los tubos rojos está abierto?Mira hacia ambos lados pero no ve ninguna anomalía.
