CNN's 'Latino in America' and Holy Trinity Catholic Church b
2009-10-22 05:02:00
I have been looking forward to CNN's "Latino in America" for months, but while watching tonight's episode and hearing both sides of the divide in St. Ann, Missouri's Holy Trinity Catholic Church (nicknamed Holy Trinity Hispanic Church), all I could do was shake my head. Neither group seems to be making a great effort to know the other--the Latino side because some are uncomfortable that they aren't fluent in English and the English side because they feel like Latinos should learn English. I disagree with both. They both need to meet in the middle. English is not the official language in the United States, and we're constantly bragging about being a big melting pot but then contradicting ourselves by...

The number of Bingo players could grow sharply as the result of the Vatican's epochal decision today to add another free space to Bingo cards. At press conferences in Rome and London on Tuesday, Vatican officials also announced that any time anyone makes Bingo on 0-67 that the winner will receive an autographed baseball from former White Sox catcher Ron Karkovice, who used to be urged by the announcers to "hit a little bingo," and indeed he was hitting for an average of .067...BINGO! "It's a stunning turn of events," says Lawrence Cunningham, theology professor at Notre Dame University. "At the very least, it takes our mind off the fact that we were never really in the USC game on...

Catholic Church shamed by Irish abuse report

Catholic Church shamed by Irish abuse report DUBLIN (AP) - After a nine-year investigation, a commission published a damning report Wednesday on decades of rapes, humiliation and beatings at Catholic Church-run reform schools for Ireland’s castaway children. The 2,600-page report painted the most detailed and damning portrait yet of church-administered abuse in a country grown weary of ...

Bashing Obama Yet Again With ?The Catholic Crutch?
2009-04-15 23:10:00
(And also posted over here.)As many of us are aware, we observed the most important day of the Christian calendar last Sunday in commemoration of Easter. And if you guessed that that has ushered in yet another round of pundit idiocy about how President Obama is supposedly losing the support of Catholic voters, then you win a free picture of Bill Donahue suitable for mounting on a dart board or insertion into the bottom of your cat?s litter box.The most recent culprit if Amy Sullivan, ?religion correspondent? for Time Magazine here (and I have an issue with reporters from our corporate media pretending to write about faith generally, usually because they use it as an excuse for their own twisted brand of pontificating ? I more or less go along with it from the Bucks County Courier Times, often because they have good writers, but mainly because fighting that battle isn?t one that I?m going to win). Here is an excerpt from Sullivan?s column??Obama's first few months in office have seen...

I've become increasingly nervous for Britain (and many pockets of Europe) over recent years because of the hotpot of Islamism that seems to be simmering and splattering out into society there, so I find the whinings of British Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O'Connor to be particularly reassuring. In a nutshell, Murphy-O'Connor is ...

Fe y problemas

1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,2 through whom we have gained access (by faith) to this grace in which we stand, and we boast in hope of the glory of God.3 Not only that, but we even boast of our afflictions, knowing that affliction produces endurance,4 and endurance, proven character, and proven character, hope,5 and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the holy Spirit that has been given to us.Romans 5:1-5New American Bible
Catholic Priest Damns Faithful for Voting for Barack Obama

The Rev. The Catholic Church?s ACORN Inquisition
2008-11-13 23:00:00
(By the way, I also posted over here today.)This CNN story tells us?The Roman Catholic Church is cutting off funds to the community organizing group ACORN, citing complaints over its voter registration drives in the November 4 election as part of the reason. The Catholic Campaign for Human Development froze its contributions to the group in June amid allegations that Dale Rathke, the brother of ACORN founder Wade Rathke, had embezzled nearly $1 million. This week, as the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops met in Baltimore, Maryland, the campaign's chairman said it was cutting all ties with the group."We simply had too many questions and concerns to permit further CCHD funding of ACORN groups," Roger Morin, the auxiliary bishop of New Orleans, Louisiana, told his colleagues in a letter to the conference.I guess it was too much trouble for auxiliary bishop Morin to do a little investigating into this and found out what I discovered here, notably? The head of a foundation that has funne...
Catholic Bishops to stop funding ACORN
2008-10-21 07:54:00
If you steal a million bucks, and don’t tell anyone, is it a crime? Well, maybe, say the Catholic bishops, especially if it might be some of our antipoverty money. It seems that the Catholic Bishop’s “poverty” charity, the “Catholic Campaign for Human Development”, has been giving a million bucks or so each year to ACORN. No big ...

John McCain Must Stand for Life to Win Catholic Vote

I hate to criticize McCain.  I know his voting record for life issues is leagues better than Obama's.  However, I NEVER EVER hear him or Governor Palin speak out against abortion.  It does not come up in debates.  It is not even on the "issues" page of John McCain's website.  Why not?   I wrote the ...

War in Heaven and Fallen Angels
2008-10-03 00:00:00
Bible quotes are from the New American BibleWar in Heaven7 Then war broke out in heaven; Michael and his angels battled against the dragon. The dragon and its angels fought back,8 but they did not prevail and there was no longer any place for them in heaven.9 The huge dragon, the ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, who deceived the whole world, was thrown down to earth, and its angels were thrown down with it.Revelation 12:7-9Reasons of the FallPride11 And We created you, then We shaped you, then We said to the Angels: "Submit to Adam;" so they submitted except for Satan, he was not of those who submitted.12 He said: "What has prevented you from submitting when I have ordered you?" He said: "I am far better than him, You created me from fire and created him from clay!"13 He said: "Descend from it, it is not for you to be arrogant here; depart, for you are disgraced."14 He said: "Grant me respite until the Day they are resurrected?"15 He said: "You are granted."16 He ...

Biden loses Obama the Catholic vote
2008-09-19 18:16:00
I’ve often wondered how Catholics could elect Democrats in the last 40 years or so. That would seem to have been rendered a moot point this cycle, as Gerald Warner observes: Missed it by THAT MUCH Remember, you read it here first: on September 11 this blog reported a mounting backlash from Catholic bishops against Biden, Barack Obama’s “Catholic” pro-abortion running mate. At that time I estimated eight bishops had come out to denounce Biden; the total is now 55. Beyond that, Biden is being trashed across every state of the Union by Catholic newspapers, TV and radio stations, and blogs. It is a tsunami of rejection. The story has now hit the secular media. Last Saturday Time magazine asked: “Does Biden Have a Catholic Problem?” By Wednesday the issue had moved onto the front page of the New York Times. Joe the Jinx has blown it, big time. Biden has only himself to blame: he started this war, with his notoriously undisciplined mouth. He knew t...

?All you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to you.?--Gandalf from Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. TolkienHow do we decide what to do with the time given to us? Far too often, we take the time given us for granted and behave as though we have all the time in the world to do the things we should do, and what we hope to do. Many times we are dealt a hand that leads us on a path we never thought we would take, or maybe even more correctly, a path we never wanted to take. So, the things we hoped for in life, dreamed of in life never happen, or sometimes begin and are ended for reasons we can not understand, and often find difficult to accept and live with. When our dreams are shattered, when the carpet is pulled out from under us we far too often have a hard time letting go and moving on. So, what do we do, and how do we cope?We can take one of two paths when we are faced with obstacles in our life path. First, we can weep, and moan and groan, and throw ourselves one b...

2008-06-02 06:49:00
Sent in by Michelle RI was born and raised a Roman Catholic. My parents were pretty devout Catholics and I totally absorbed their faith. During my teen years, I was exposed to charismatic Catholics and burned all my evil rock music records and began listening to Christian rock. I also began realizing that I might be a lesbian and began praying daily that I stop having these evil thoughts and began hating myself that I could not control them.I attended Franciscan University, a far right charismatic Catholic school in Ohio. I majored in theology, attended daily mass, and explored becoming a nun. Amazingly, all my prayers that I become straight did not work. I even went to a counselor who suggested I wear dresses and put on make up in order to feel more feminine. I only did that for a week or two. Luckily, my younger sister was attending the same school and talked me out of dressing in drag.Along with the teachings on homosexuality being caused by demons, this school also taught that w...
