caveat emptor
2009-03-18 20:38:00 Wed 18: Am trying not to feel distressed at the amount of ?issues? to deal with. The German netbook supplier is being awful and really dragging out arranging a collection and refund. Yet, legally, I am entitled to a refund even if there is nothing wrong. BUT THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG. The wifi does not ...

Caveat Emptor for Vacation Home Buyers
2008-03-18 16:12:00 The Latin adage, caveat emptor, which translates ?let the buyer beware? is exemplified by a recent article from the Inman News Service. Caveat Emptor
2008-01-08 04:52:00 I sometimes engage in lengthy discussions on other blogs, especially about Progressive education and politics. This entry came from http://www.amptoons.com/blog/ar-chives/2008/01/07/a-dangerous-d-istraction/#comment-315177, a site that I am having a great deal of fun at:I think what Barack Obama represents is a new sense of connectedness to politics that many Americans are experiencing. It’s as if he offers a bit of a reprieve from the learned helplessness we’ve experienced under Bush. (I’m not convinced I’ll vote for him, mind you.) The actual changes he can make are uncertain.Boy, I couldn't agree with you more. People forget that politics is more about feeling sometimes (JFK) and less about how someone can operate the system (LBJ). It's the beauty of Obama's candidacy and the danger of it. We are all waiting to be inspired and each of last week's Iowa Caucus winning candidates, Obama and Huckabee, are raising people's pulse rates a bit. Of course, we need to put b...
Buying A Junker To Rehab, Caveat Emptor by D. Brown
2007-11-23 05:28:00 Finding the worst house in a nice neighborhood and then finding out that it is available for sale is nice. 2007-11-13 13:51:00 The Beverly Hills plastic surgery who operated on Kanye West's mother claims he's the victim of "sleaze". Dr. Jan Adams posits Dr. Donda West could've had a heart attack on the table. TMZ Dr. Adams says she made and canceled tummy tuck and boob implant surgeries, but finally made up her mind with deadly results. The guy has an impressive resume. Harvard. University of Ohio med school. NYC Lenox Hill chief surgical resident. University of Michigan plastic surgery residency. Plastic surgery fellowship at UCLA. That doesn't mean he's competent. But I'm inclined to side with Dr. Adams. Plastic surgery isn't a walk in the park. Chicago Sun-Times Patients are warned of potential complications. If anything the culprit is usually the anesthesiologist. I'm not defending Dr. Adams because I'm married to a doctor. Surgery is a team effort and it is unfair to point the finger at one guy. What I've learned is to be discerning when choosing a doctor. I have personal knowledge of ...

Caveat Emptor
2007-11-05 22:54:00 Jim Bohannon got this from some PR vultures and emailed it to me. Here's a product that lives up to its name. "Unbelievable" because it is. The gorgeous Cheryl Tiegs is hawking it instead of Botox. Save your dough and get Botox. Cheryl's amazing youthful appearance didn't come out of a tube. The before and after photos in the ad are too good to be true. The email appears to come directly from Cheryl HERSELF (cheryl@cheryltiegsyoung.com).F-raxel laser resurfacing is great for lines, wrinkles, discoloration (sun spots), and scars. You can do your entire body but most people like to Fraxel their faces, neck, chest, and hands. It's expensive, but well worth it. Intense pulsed laser (IPL) gets rid of those unsightly brown spots. Sculptra can be injected into hands to soften the appearance of aging hands. Or fat from your ass like Geraldo Rivera had sucked from his and injected into his irrigation ditch forehead. On camera. Cheryl Tiegs is a well-paid pimp. Visit veteran Washington, DC...

With China we have caveat emptor on steroids
2007-08-24 18:32:00 There has to be a few charlatans in every population. In a population of 1.3 billion, as in China, there has to be a whole lot of them. And we're going to start meeting them in ever increasing numbers as the Chinese figure out the Western deceit of filtering their personal immoralities through sanitizing corporations. Here's a case in point from an article in the Globe and Mail entitled Stem-cell therapy: Cure or hoax in China? As we are increasingly learning, China is relatively regulation-free (see our post China declares "war" to protect image) which in an other-wise regulated world spells opportunity. Stem-cell therapy is a procedure still under early clinical trials in much of the Western world. But not in China where advertisement that claim to cure the incurable have attract desperate people from all over the world. So how have these desperate people been doing? Well, according to the article, not so well. In a research paper published in Neurorehabilitation and...

2007-07-17 19:39:00 Channel 4's FactCheck criticises the case for local food being better for the environment:Transporting food accounts for only a small proportion of the carbon dioxide emissions involved in producing it. And in some cases producing food far away and transporting it can be more efficient than producing it locally...But food miles certainly don't tell the whole story. Seasonality is important; eating apples when they're in season in Britain - in the autumn - will have a lower impact than eating them in the spring. In spring, apples will have either been imported or stored for long periods at low temperatures - which produces CO2.Likewise, people who really want to reduce their carbon footprint should consider eating less meat. Protein from meat generally has a larger footprint than vegetable protein, and methane produce...

Caveat Emptor: Let the Buyer Beware
2007-04-18 21:45:00 What does Caveat Emptor mean? It’s a latin phrase for an English common law pertaining to the trade of Real Estate, if you’re intersted to know (is that sufficiently confusing?). But, more importantly, it’s a warning. Take for instance the following story, labeled defense exhibit number 392 for using a Realtor in every transaction: My firm ...

Caveat Emptor: Rat Curry
2007-03-14 15:36:00 Reminding us once more that we should be careful when eating out, this news story tells of a noodle vendor outside JR Shin-Shin-Koiwa Station in Tokyo who sold curry to 18 people with a rat in the pot that he used to boil some of the ingredients. The thing was 8 centimeters long, and apparently the clerk closed the stand as soon as he discovered the rat. Since then, the company that owns this stand and a host of others offered an apology.I still don't understand how someone would not notice a rat in their pot. Either it was in there from the start or it snuck in after. In either case, how does one not notice that a) there's a big ol' rat in their pot, or b) that there's a big ol' rat being slowly boiled to death in their pot. It's difficult to fathom, and just plain disgusting. It's gross enough when I discover that a restuarant has a mouse living in it, but stewing the creatures with the food is just vile.(Technorati Tags: japan japanese japanese food japanese news )
