The Caves We Fear to Enter
2009-09-21 12:00:00
This is a guest post by Steven Aitchison. We have to travel many paths in our lives in order to reach the state of our true self. There are also many caves to enter. Caves are those places deep inside us where we are a little bit nervous to enter, some we have to ...

FileFront caves in under the economic downfall
2009-03-27 00:27:00
FileFront is the first internet-based company I know to have gone under due to the current economic situation. As announced on March 25th this year, FileFront site operations will be indefinitely suspended on March 30th, 2009. They are urging people to use this time period – a mere 5 days – to download any files that have been uploaded as they will not be available after the date specified. Launched in December 2001, FileFront was a popular destination for gamers looking for patches, mods, demos, videos and other game-related content. They also took the initiative and hosted a wide range of other software, including drivers, internet software and audio-video. However, the site's future became uncertain when UGO acquired 1Up from Ziff-Davis; FileFront was not part of the sale and while Ziff said it would continue to operate FileFront as part of the PC Magazine digital network, the company's struggles cast doubt on how long it could afford to keep things going. Many have...
I Give Up: Civilization Is A Bust. Quick, Back To The Caves!
2009-02-04 08:03:00
I'm going to have to assume from now on that the audience I'm blogging for simply hasn't been born yet. So, to the Internet archaeologists of 1000 years from now: I'm sorry, I failed to bring the human race to terms with computers. But just look at what I had to work with! You see, I have a handicap. I don't have Alzheimer's disease. In my time, virtually everyone else had Alzheimer's. That's why they couldn't remember anything that happened before breakfast. Being in a continuous state of having a fresh reboot several times each day, most everybody was quite happy, because they couldn't remember any problems they'd ever had. Everybody was equal, because nobody could keep a train of thought going long enough to learn anything. There was no such thing as history, so every time anybody tried anything, it was always the very first time and the results were a complete surprise, which was talked about briefly and promptly forgotten. Take for instance, the blog post over at ...
Company caves to moms Motrin ad backlash -- chicagotribune.com
2008-11-20 10:47:00
Did you hear the recent controversy around the Motrin baby ad? On a Saturday, Motrin released a new ad campaign aimed at moms wth young babies. Specifcally moms using those baby carriers. You can find the add at the link below. Anyway, by Monday it was removed after thousands of upsent moms starting twitering about the condescending ad. I thought it was kinda cute; but I'm not a mom, none-the-less many moms were offended.Read More...

Gunung Senyum, Termeloh
2008-09-26 12:13:00
17 September 2008 - Gunung Senyum, TermelohRemember Gua Charas? Gua Charas is another cave i went during April this year, which is somewhere middle on the road to Sg Lembing.. Gua Charas is nothing when compare to Gunung Senyum.. It is well managed and much cleaner.. the limestone formings are much beautiful as well.. However, most of the formed stalactites and stalagmides are dead.. because there are not forming anymore.. no water drippings.. and most of the caves are relatively dry.. Check out Dark Caves at Batu Caves... those stalactites and stalagmides are still 'wet' and 'growing'.. as well as the gour pools.. (view video) It is really amazing to see how they actually formed over thousands of years.. some of the formings are really fragile and we shouldn't touch them, as it will take another few thousands years to form again.. (wikipedia)A group photo at the entrance to the caves.. most of them are pharmacist and my seniors.. I can be considered as the youngest in the gro...
Men, their Caves, their Emotions and a whole lot of Internet searches!
2008-09-19 12:22:00
I have been taking note again recently about how people come to visit my little piece of Cyber Space. My Stats counter records what link or search people enter this blog from. It has continued to surprise me how many people search on the following terms. This is over the space of about two weeks:men and their cavemen and their cavesmen and their cavesemotional support pgcemen and their caves=men and their cavecan men learn to show emotionmen in their cavewomans emotion men godmen emotions hurtWell you get the idea and the theme here. So if you have stumbled upon my blog searching with the above then welcome and stick around, make yourself at home and hopefully something of what I have shared can help you on your quest. This article I wrote about a year ago shows much the same thing as far as searches go. This must only be a fraction of the amount of searches done on the subject. I am not about to suggest that over the course of a year anything should have changed about Men's Emotion...

Carnival Caves on Fees, Avoids Lawsuit?
2008-04-01 17:23:00
Carnival Corporation caved on its plan to retroactively charge people for fuel surcharges today, according to USA Today. This move saves the company a lot of future trouble and allows them to back out gracefully of a bad faith $40 million windfall the company had basically extorted out of their consumers. Here's the back story. On November 7, Carnival announced a $5 per passenger per day fuel surcharge to cover the rising cost of fuel. This is a common way for travel providers to hide a fare increase without having to share the increased fare with travel agents who are often paid commission. What made this particular fuel surcharge so awful, was that Carnival applied the fee retroactively. If the traveler has yet to sail, but has a cabin booked, extra charges of up to $140 per cabin applied. The only exception was for people who were already paid in full by the day before the announcement was made. Thousands of travelers lost, Carnival Corporation won to the tune of $40 million. Roy...

Memo to those who live in caves: dump the insurers
2008-03-14 13:58:00
When will Wall Street throw in the towel and admit the obvious? It's starting to remind me of a kid that's been caught lying yet sticks to their story, hoping that sheer will can convince their parents that they're telling the truth. When they reported three weeks ago, did any credible analyst not expect AIG's quarter to really stink? Has the market become so desperate/hopeful that it has deluded itself to reality. There will not be a speedy, neat solution to our housing/credit problems. Every time I turn on the TV, there's some sycophantic"economist," "market strategist," or "President" telling us that a recession is not going to happen. They're right. It's already here. Recessions are part and parcel of a capitalist economy. They've occurred with regularity and will continue to do so for the forseeable future. I agree that both business and central bankers have lots of new toys that can help them navigate the recessionary shoals better than in years past. Ho...

From Beaches to Caves, Rain to Sun
2008-03-05 09:51:00
Wednesday, March 5, 20:20 (our itinerary) We’re now wandering as the mood and weather dictate. Yesterday we started north from Wellington on Highway 1. We had hoped to take a boat trip to the Kapiti Island Nature Reserve, but it didn’t work out, so stopped at a charming roadside cafe (The Red House, at Te Horo) for a breakfast that included free range eggs with bright orange yolks and other ingredients that all tasted like they were harvested in the back yard of the place.  The weather started to clear, so we headed west a few miles to Waiketere Beach, where we had to share the 8 kilometers of beach with about 6 other people. A sign at the ramp onto the beach said that the beach is a road, so we drove 4 or 5 k down it - the fine sand packs down like concrete.     We tried to get some sun at Waiketere, but the wind was still howling so that didn’t last long, and we decided to go inland to Taupo, one of the most popular holiday destinations for Kiwis. The weather...
Dearbornistan: Walmart caves to Islamic ?cultural? demands
2008-03-04 20:36:00
There’s a reason why we call it Dearbornistan. Hillary Reality Show: From Caves to The White House
2008-03-02 02:40:00
?We have real enemies who are sitting in some cave somewhere trying to figure out how to hurt us again,? she continued.?We?re not going to be able to ignore the reality of the world in which we live. And we need a president who can become a commander in chief immediately to begin to make the decisions that will make us safer going into the future.?(Mrs. Clinton said today that she was ?involved in a lot of decisions that were made? but did not specify any of them.)On Friday she began running an ad in Texas suggesting that she would be a far steadier hand answering the red phone in the White House if a crisis broke out.?He thinks that the clouds will part and he?s so naïve,? ?Mr. Obama said, eliciting zealous boos from the crowd. ?The implication is if you talk about hope, you must be naïve, your head must be in the clouds.?http://nytimes.com/2008-/03/02/us/politics/02campaign.h-tml

Caves of Crystals.
2008-02-29 20:41:00
Caves of Crystals. Places where Superman could feel at home. Mexico's Cueva de los Cristales contains some of the world's largest known natural crystals - tanslucent gypsum beams measuring up to 36 feet (11 meters) long & weighing up to 55 tons.Modern-day mining operations exposed the natural wonder by pumping water out of the 30-by-90-foot (10-by-30-meter) cave, which was found in 2000 near the town of Delicias. "There is no other place on the planet," García-Ruiz said, "where the mineral world reveals itself in such beauty."(Image credit: Nationalgeographic).(Image credit: Crystalinks).(Image credit: Canyonsworldwide).Similarly there is a huge cave of crystals in an old silver mine in Spain. The Batu Caves temple authorities have made public their takings for this year’s Thaipusam celebrations. That’s assuming all the money has been properly accounted for. This corroborates the impressions of eye-witness ...

28.Jan.2008 : Afghan caves hold world?s first oil paintings

Caves in Krabi
2007-12-28 18:06:00
The limestone scenery which dominates the entire region offers a fascinating network of cave systems, both inland and along the coastline. Many contain wonderful crystalline formations, stalagmites and stalactites. A number are said to be the home of spirits and are steeped in local forklore, containing Buddha images and items of spiritual worship. Many of the coastal caves reveal collapsed caverns or "hongs" Inside the hongs are many interior lagoons open to the sky and accessed only at certain tides through tunnels in the rocks. Local kayaking companies provide excellent tours inside these cave systems giving an unobtrusive view of a unique eco-system.Many of the caves also contain prehistoric paintings, stone tools and pottery shards, giving a clue to Krabi's rich past.Klong Thom Museum, south-east of Krabi Town, has a collection of ceramics, stone tools and bronze implements found at various excavations throughout the area. Drive through the province or take a tour.Around Krabi ...
NFL network caves; PATS v. NYG to be aired on NBC, CBS
2007-12-27 04:54:00
You can check out the story here. I will be back during the offseason with a story I have been putting together regarding the issues here, but everyone should know that this comes about only because the NFL had the "Antitrust" gun pointed at their head. If you aren't familiar with how antitrust works, don't worry.  Nobody does, but everyone knows that it is some really scary **.  The NFL has been using their antitrust exemption against rival networks for a while now, and it became obvious with this cable-NFLN debate that they can and will wield power if it is given to them, which is what an antitrust exemption amounts to. To be clear, I don't support the notion of antitrust (I abhor it), but in this instance the NFL is the badguy too, because you don't put yourself in the position they are in, having accepted government favors and handouts, and then attempt to strongarm others with the privelege. This issue is very deep, it involves Federal court cases regarding th...
Follow-Up: BBC Caves on iPlayer - Linux Support Added
2007-12-14 06:48:00
Looks like the BBC buckled under backlash from bloggers (say that 20 times fast). They’ll be offering their iPlayer in Mac and Linux flavors I talked about what a crock they had begun to simmer with a Windows only version a few weeks ago. Glad to see that they have understood that the benefits outweigh the caveats many times over. It’s much like standards compliant web pages...you only limit yourself by making your page non-compliant...because it won’t display in all browsers. You lose business if you have an ecommerce site...you lost hits if you have a blog. The BBC now understands that by limiting the ability of those to use its player, it shut the door to those users. It also knows that a network of bloggers is a powerful force to be reckoned with.Whether Linux and Mac users be a small number or a large number, the BBC has set precedent here that I hope they follow in the future. Keep Open BBC!

Repechon Caves
2007-12-04 05:55:00
These caves are found in the Tiraque province, some 30 Kms from Villa Tunari. Their climate is warm and extremely humid with and average temperature of 12 to 17° C. They're small and not deep(50 to 150 meters and a height of 30 to 40 metros) which make up a "Sanctuary of wild life? recognized as a protected ecological area.In this caves we can find a certain species of bird (steatornis caripensis) which receives the name of "guácharo" or "lucero". These birds have the singularity of being nocturnal, and because of this their eyes have a flourescent shine, reason for which they're also known as ?blind birds?. They eat seeds rich in oils and build their nests in the cave walls, guiding themselves at night using sound echos. It is estimated that in both caverns exists a total population of approximately 2000 birds. It is a specie in danger of extintion.
