Beautiful Pictures O land of soft, fresh breezes And verdant trees so fair, With the Creator's glory Reflected ev'rywhere, O sea of palest em'rald, Merging to darkest blue, Whene'er my thoughts fly Godward, I always think of you. Dear, verdant island, set in blue Caribbean Sea, I'm coming, coming very soon, O beautious isle, to thee. Although I wandered far, My heart enshrines thee yet. Huckabee Schmoozing In Secret Meetings and Cayman Islands
2008-02-19 03:23:00 I got this great tip from a reader. Our friend Mr. Huckabee is involved in even more shady dealings than we could ever hope to cover. There are some deep pockets creating all kinds of 527 special interest groups that can’t be traced thanks to McCain-Feingold. The other problem is that there are tax-exempt issues ...

Jazz is in the air!
2007-11-29 21:22:00 Source: www.stluciajazz.org Jazz festivals are always ?happenin? in the Caribbean. From January to December, you can choose to go anywhere from Antigua to Barbados, St Lucia, Jamaica, Bermuda, Aruba, the Cayman Islands, Dominica, Tobago, and other islands, and somewhere on the calendar, you?ll find an event worth attending. While some shows stay true to the artform, showcasing strictly jazz musicians, some also invite non-jazz, R&B or other artistes in order to increase the festivals? appeal, and to satisfy the varied musical palette of patrons. Regardless, Caribbean jazz and music festivals have become popular with international audiences. Visitors from all over come together with residents to enjoy good music, great food, dancing in the sun, and Caribbean hospitality.Additionally, there are Caribbean-jazz festivals, like the October Jazz Festival in St Lucia and the Pan Jazz Festival in Trinidad. These involve Caribbean musicians and music. Here are some of the popular music fe...

MACO Memories - Prada, Comedy and Caribbean Chic
2007-09-03 17:34:00 The next issue of MACO Caribbean Living (Volume 9 Issue 2). Available in bookstores from mid-September. Imagine the cast of The Devil Wears Prada crossed with Last Comic Standing. That would aptly describe my entire staff at Toute Bagai Publishing, which consists of an all-female team; so imagine 15 women in an office, not including Nasma in Jamaica and Kathy, our editor, who thinks our office is too noisy for even her, a state prosecutor! A smile on my face never fails to turn into a giggle when an unsuspecting subscriber walks through our doors to renew a subscription and finds Mari-Ange in midst of practising for her role in the latest stage production, or Parris regaling us with details of her life as a newlywed. I sit back and watch as the visitor to our MACO headquarters enters, pauses, and then joins me in a cackle. Our production trips for MACO are no different. And with every editor?s note I write, these memories come flooding back. In April, Kerri Tucker, photographer Cooki...

Caribbean Golf Courses - Tee ya there
2007-08-30 16:59:00 Sun, sea, and sand have long been the selling points of Caribbean tourism. Others include our sumptuous cuisine, melting pot of cultures, natural wonders, our constant energy, and golf. Golf courses have been growing across the Caribbean apace. From Barbados to the Bahamas, most golf courses are linked to luxury resorts. Not too long ago Destinations discovered five of the best, which are listed below with a few teasers. We?ve also listed a courses that continue to delight the most enthusiastic of golf players.1. Dominican Republic ? Casa de CampoDesigned by Peter Dye, Casa de Campo is one of the Caribbean?s most luxurious resorts. It is so large that guests are given a map and golf cart to get around. On the Teeth of the Dog course, seven holes are set adjacent to the sea, whereas the other 11 are confoundedly labyrinthine. The ?teeth? of Teeth of the Dog refer to a local nickname for the island's jagged-edged coral reefs, which are often in view along the track?s famed seaside ho...

2007-07-20 02:05:00 Johnny Depp may have now coined the image people have in their heads when they hear the phrase pirates of the Caribbean. But in the Cayman Islands, people think of pirates landing on their island. You see, every year, the Cayman Islands hosts the Pirates Week Festival. Attracting locals and foreigners, the festival started off in 1977. In the current issue of MACO Destinations, writer Catherine MacGillivray found herself in the midst of the excitement and gave us tonnes of information about the event. The festival spans 11 days and includes fun activities like mock pirates landing, the Cayman Islands governor being taken ?hostage?, a float parade, fireworks and street dances. Onlookers also get in on the fun, dressing up as pirates. Pirates Week takes place in November, and starts at Little Cayman.
