I Wanna Rock Right Now

Is it by an artist or group that you can see live in concert fairly regularly like Aerosmith, Prince or the Dave Matthews Band? Well, what happens when one of your favorite songs is by an artist that is only truly known for this one song and only has a handful of hits? Plus, since this song is over 20 years old, you figure that you would never see it performed live and probably wouldn?t pay much (if anything) to attend a concert just to see a few songs. You probably figured that you would never see the song performed live and didn?t even think about it as a possibility since you didn?t even know that this performer even toured anymore, So imagine my surprise when I learned on Friday that Tone Loc had to pull out of the Old Skool All-Stars concert at Celebrate Fairfax only to be replaced by Rob Base. Now, I like Wild Thing and Funky Cold Medina, but It Takes Two has to be among my top-five favorite so...

This Weekend: Celebrate Fairfax
2009-06-04 18:38:00 For those of you that live in the DC area (or elsewhere), it's time for my annual post about why you should attend Celebrate Fairfax . If you are unfamiliar with the festival, here are the basics: Celebrate Fairfax, Northern Virginia?s largest community-wide celebration, takes place this weekend, June 5-7, 2009, at the Fairfax County Government Center in Fairfax, Virginia. The festival features dozens of live concerts on five stages, an interactive SciTech Center and Children?s Avenue, fireworks Friday and Saturday night, hundreds of exhibitors and crafters and more. This year?s headliners (which I mentioned in March) include Blues Traveler, The Fixx, Phil Vassar and The Old Skool All-Stars (Tone Loc, Naughty by Nature and The Sugar Hill Gang). Plus, there?s lots of great food options (mmmm; funnel cake!).I wrote about this when the discounted tickets went on sale, but I think it is worth repeating. Adult admission tickets for the June 5-7, 2009 festival are on sale at Celebrate Fairfax?s website for only $7. That?s right, $7! When was the last time you paid $7 to see a concert? Ticketmaster fees alone are generally much more than $7. For $7, you can see Blues Traveler on Friday, June 5th or Phil Vassar on Sunday, June 7th. Celebrate Fairfax 2008
2008-06-05 16:49:00 Celebrate Fairfax, Northern Virginia?s largest community-wide celebration, takes place this weekend, June 6-8, 2008, at the Fairfax County Government Center. Celebrate Fairfax features live concerts on seven stages, an interactive SciTech Center and Children?s Avenue, Laser Show, fireworks Friday and Saturday night and hundreds of exhibitors and crafters. This year?s headliners include OK GO, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Bowling for Soup and Emerson Drive. Plus, there?s lots of great food options (mmmm; funnel cake!).This will be my seventh year involved with Celebrate Fairfax, and I enjoy the festival every year. Even without stopping at the carnival, grabbing food or listening to music, I can easily spend hours walking around the site visiting the different booths and exhibits, particularly the County Expo area where more than 40 county agencies have various interactive educational displays. 2007-06-15 13:51:00 During my time as a volunteer last weekend, I was interviewed by the "Epoch Times" for an article about Celebrate Fairfax. The article is in Chinese, but through the magic of Google translator, here is the section in which I am featured translated into English.Sean of this year's festival is voluntary duties exhibitors (Exhibitor Relations). Celebrate Fairfax 2007
2007-06-06 13:02:00 The 2007 Celebrate Fairfax! festival, Northern Virginia?s largest community-wide celebration, is this weekend, June 8-10, at the Fairfax County Government Center. The festival features over 80 bands and performers on six stages including headliners Live, Smash Mouth, Little Big Town and Eddie from Ohio plus Jimmie?s Chicken Shack, JunkFood, Welbilt and much more. The entertainment is only part of the festivities. There are also 400 exhibitors, vendors and crafters, a SciTech Center, County Expo program where county agencies create dozens of activities (it?s definitely worth going through this area), fireworks, a laser show, and of course, food (hooray for funnel cake!). This year marks the 26th year of Celebrate Fairfax, and my sixth year of involvement. I?m obviously a little biased, but I have been to dozens of festivals, and Celebrate Fairfax is one of the best around.
