Paleolithic Chaim Takes Manhattan
2007-10-12 05:58:00 A few days ago, I outlined my plan for conquering the New York City bartending job market. Long story short, I decided that, obviously, the reason no one was taking what I had to offer was because I was too snappily dressed. I figured it would be better to dress like a homeless person, since it would make it appear as if I really needed the job. (Read the old post to grasp the full depth of my revelation.)So, my way of going about carrying out my plan was quite simple, really. First, I shredded up an old pair of jeans with an old razor. Then, I took them down to my local subway station and rubbed both sides of the jeans along the entire length of the downtown platform until they were nice and dirty. Then, I dumped a bottle of beer on them, pissed on them, and then sealed them in a plastic bag overnight before hanging them out on my fire escape to dry in the sun the next day.Luckily, I had on old pair of sneakers lying around, so all I really had to do was remove the laces and ...

For a good time, call-- er... uhh... I mean, e-mail Chaim at...
2007-09-14 23:25:00 Those who know me well have, at one point or another, heard my rant about phones. I hate them. If I never talk on another phone again in my life, it will be too soon. I love to talk to people in person, but as soon as you put me on the phone I start fantasizing about vows of silence and living the rest of my life as a hermit off in a cave somewhere.I love to write. Not just for myself, and not just fiction or on a blog. I love to write to people. Letters, text messages (in which I use real words and complete sentences), e-mails -- It doesn't matter. I feel I can bring my thoughts across better in writing. I can't tell you how many times I have thought, after speaking, "Man, I wish I hadn't said that!" There are, in fact, many things I've said in the past that I think about now and cringe over. But there haven't been many things I've written that I wish I could take back. Not only can I proof-read something before sending it off, but, because my thoughts come forward...

Mordechai Chaim Rumkowski
2007-08-28 17:54:00 Chaim Mordechai Rumkowski The Holocaust Education & Archive Research Team holds no viewpoint on the actions of Mordechai Chaim Rumkowski. We only seek to present the factual events from several viewpoints and allow the reader to formulate their own views. Mordechai Chaim Rumkowski Mordechai Chaim Rumkowski was born in 1877 in Russia. His family relocated to Poland where he maintained an unsuccessful career as the director of an orphanage. On October 13, 1939, the Nazi occupation authorities appointed him Judenrat Chairman in ?ód?. In this position he reported directly to the Nazi ghetto administration headed by Hans Biebow and had direct responsibility for providing heat, work, food, housing, and health and welfare services to the ghetto population. With 230,000 people confined to a very small area that had no farmland, food quickly became a problem. Since the Nazis insisted on having the ghetto pay for its own upkeep, money was needed. Bu...

21st Av - R' Chaim Brisker
2007-08-05 20:16:00 Today is the Yarzheit of R' Chaim (Brisker) Soloveitchik. Perhaps more than anyone else in the past 200 years he has shaped yeshivas and the style of learning that goes on within them.R' Chaim's most famous work 'Rabbeinu Chaim Halevy al HaRambam' has the status (almost) of one of the Rishonim and is learned in all yeshivas. The classic 'brisker' style resolves contradictions within texts by making distinctions between two similar things (often 'cheftza' and 'gavra' the object itself and the mitzvah on the person who is relating to it). In a sense he brought the scientific method into Talmud study, as this HaAretz article points out: Defining the exact nature of the Brisk revolution is not easy. Certainly, Reb Chaim Soloveitchik was an extraordinarily gifted teacher, who combined profundity and close analysis with clarity of explication. Yet much of the vocabulary he used is found in earlier sources. The emphasis on seeking an underlying conceptual stratum to explain halak...
Reb Chaim Haqoton has moved.
2007-08-02 22:13:00 I have recently re-located from the United States of America to Jerusalem, Israel. Interestingly, I sat next to Avshalom Katz on my plane trip from New York City to Tel Aviv. I want my readers to post in the comments section of this post some ideas for future articles on Reb Chaim HaQoton. This was syndicated from the Reb Chaim HaQoton syndication feed.
R' Chaim Ozer - 5th Av
2007-07-20 08:16:00 Today is the yarzheit of one of the greatest European Rabbis of the last century - Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzinski. R' Chaim Ozer was known not only for his leadership skills, and his brilliance in Torah, but most famously for having a compartmentalised brain. He was able to do several things at the same time (how many things at once depends on which version of the stories you hear). He could write two separate letters using both hands simultaneously, while at the same time answering a halachic sheila and speaking to his secretary (and perhaps also speaking on the phone). They say about him that when he would daven the veins on his temples would pop out from the exertion of concentrating on one one thing! His Achiezer responsa is well known for allowing the use of gelatin, but his halachic expertise was in all areas of contemporary life. They say that the Chofetz Chaim would always discuss political issues with R' Chaim Ozer before making a decision.Chaim Ozer GrodzinskiFrom Wikipedia, ...
15th Tamuz - Ohr HaChaim HaKadosh
2007-07-01 06:58:00 Today is the Yarzheit of the Ohr HaChaim HaKadosh, best known for his commentary on Chumash. This is what Wikipedia has to say about the Ohr ha-ChaimChaim ben Moses ibn Attar was a Talmudist and kabbalist; born at Mequenez, Morocco, in 1696; died in Jerusalem July 31, 1743. He was one of the most prominent rabbis in Morocco. In 1733 he decided to leave his native country and settle in Palestine. En route he was detained in Livorno by the rich members of the Jewish community who established a yeshiva for him. Many of his pupils later became prominent and furnished him with funds to print his Ohr ha-Chaim.He was received with great honour wherever he travelled. This was due to his extensive knowledge, keen intellect and extraordinary piety. In the middle of 1742 he arrived in Jerusalem where he presided at the Beit Midrash Keneset Yisrael. One of his disciples there was Chaim Joseph David Azulai, who seems to have been completely overwhelmed by the excellence of his master. He wrote of h...
068 Guy Gerber & Chaim - My Space/Beaches (vinyl) (2007)
2007-06-09 22:49:00 A fine fine release by Guy Gerber & Chaim, two tracks somewhat different but making complete sense being together on this vinyl. The first track "My Space" is kind of a dirty minimal allied to retroish samples, making you feel like you are wandering in space-time continuum catching little stars as you float away (I'm not on drugs). The second track "Beaches", doesn't transport you to a beach (lol), instead it makes you want to be on a dancefloor just letting yourself go to the sound. The bass on this track is a bit more dirty, and the samples try to eat off little pieces of our brains, still it remains on the minimalistic techno scene, like the first tune. Now that I've read the "review", it seems a bit corny..but I'll leave it this way.Leave a comment with your e-mail for the password! ;)Tendo em conta que Guy Gerber irá visitar o Porto no próximo sábado @ Indústria, decidi pôr este vinyl no blog. Minimal-techno do melhor que anda por aí, tendo em conta que em 100 lançamentos ...

Supaksorn Chaimongkol
2006-08-30 16:33:00 Wow... Sexy body and cute face, can't beat this combination. Her name is Supaksorn Chaimongkol, a model and actress. Her nickname is 'Kratae' meaning chipmunk. I'm guessing her nickname arises from that fact that she's got rather wide jaw. She's got amazing curves and isn't afraid to show them. I like the last image the best with the red bikini and her bright beautiful smile. Rate Her: View results |
