That's because earlier that day he took possession of his new Challenger SRT8. The second one built by Dodge! He's shown below at the dealership. The orange car is his 1970 Challenger that he brought along for the purposes of comparison. Jay's new Challenger was spotted later that day outside of The Tonight Show studio. Undoubtedly, he took the long way to get there. There's nothing worse than picking up your new car and then having to go to work! The first production Challenger was auctioned off for charity last January. Jay, being Jay, arranged to buy #2.

The lucky owner? None other than the Tonight Show's Jay Leno. Leno picked up the car on Tuesday from a Dodge dealer in Van Nuys, California. In true muscle car and Leno style, the comedian arrived at the dealership in his own vintage Challenger, complete with a 426 Hemi underhood. After a quick walk around and some publicity shots, Leno drove the black Challenger right off the dealer showroom floor and on into the sunset. As with all 2008 Challengers, Leno's is powered by a 425 horsepower 6.1L Hemi V8. Despite being the first to take delivery, Leno's car was not Challenger #1. A Challenger SRT8 piloted by Chrysler Canada CEO Reid Bigland caused an hour delay at the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel as the border patrol checked out the new ride. The Chrysler exec was traveling from his Ontario office to his Detroit office when the incident occurred. Apparently the border patrol inspected every inch of the car before letting it pass, causing an hour delay for everyone behind Bigland. But despite the attention the car received, Bigland didn't garner much attention. "They checked out everything but my ID," Bigland told The Detroit News.

The 4th paragraph in reminds the reader that this car is built from a shortened 300C/Charger platform. 4 inches taken out of the wheelbase still leaves the wheelbase 9 inches longer than the Mustang. And the SRT8 weighs in at 4140, 200 pounds more than a Shelby Mustang coupe. The driving sensations are quote "an interesting blend of past and present...the big vehicle feeling both agile and stable up to a point. When pushed harder, the Challenger does begin to show its weight and wallows a bit... Chrysler has done a great job of bringing the look of the car to the 21st century. The side view shows lines that are shared with the famed version from the early ?70s (I think it?s better for everyone involved if we choose to forget the version from Mitsubishi that sold until the ?80s).
