The competition is now in its 14th year and the rules are pretty self-explanatory.After being checked for foot hygiene, two bare-footed competitors cross toes before trying to force each other off the "toedium".Although more international competitors have been making the pilgrimage recently, including some from Australia and the US, this year's main event was between two locals - defending champion Paul "The Toeminator"' Beech and veteran Alan "Nasty" Nash.The contest was so tight, in fact, that it had to go to a judges' decision. He concluded that Nash had the more "toe-tal" package, and he would walk away with this year's trophy, and his fifth World Championship.

It's quite a drive from where we live, and my wife decided to use that excuse to take the whole family down to stay in a hotel which meant we were better rested before arriving for weigh in on the Sunday. The competition was as big as I'd expected - there were something like 300 competitors there and the place was packed out. The competition was confined to a single large hall, but the sports centre had people wandering around in Doboks & sparring gear just about everywhere you turned.James didn't fare very well at this one unfortunately - he seemed to be phased by the size of his opponent who was a fair bit bigger than him. He also seems to have a bad habit of looking at the scoreboard, or at me throughout the round. Had some harsh words with him about that! 2008-05-27 18:07:00 The WSU Women's Rowing team is arriving today in Sacramento, CA to prepare for this weekend's NCAA Rowing Championships at Lake Natoma. The official site can be found here. Racing starts on Friday morning and continues until Sunday for Div I and II. 2008-05-17 18:05:00 The 2008 World Hockey Championships will be completed this weekend as the final two matches of the tournament will be played at the Colisée Pepsi in Quebec city.The two hockey super powers, Canada and Russia, will play the gold medal match on Sunday. Both teams have gone thru the whole tournament without suffering a single loss. Russia needed to go thru a shootout session twice during the tournament; once against Belarus and once as they faced the Czech Republic. But both times, the Russian team claimed the victory. Pac-10 Rowing Championships May 18th
2008-05-16 21:13:00 The Pac-10 final for men's and women's rowing is this weekend (Sunday) on Lake Natoma near Sacramento, CA. My daughter Carly's WSU Cougars are seeded 2nd after Cal and are currently ranked 4th in the nation. Winning won't be easy, but could set up a national championship run. Wow. I never dreamed I be the parent of an NCAA Division 1 athlete, let alone a potential national champion. If you want to see the races you can get the schedule at the WSU Cougars link above and get live streaming at Pac-10.org, but you have to register. I don't know if there's any other way, sorry. Good luck Carly and Go Cougs (that hurts to say as a Washington Husky). On another personal note, my 8 year old, Ryan, qualified for the 2nd round of the local Pitch, Hit & Run competition and will be testing his pitching skills at Garfield High School on Saturday the 24th. BTCB Competition - Dorset Championships
2008-05-08 09:47:00 The Dorset Championships are set for the 1st of June (Sunday). Apparently there's a patterns competition on the 31st May (the day before). Can't wait for this one - missed it last year due to family commitments. From what I hear this is the biggest BTCB Taekwondo Competition held in the UK or at least one of the biggest. Looking forward to meeting lots of fighters and, of course, hoping to improve on my lackluster performance at this years Chungdokwan Nationals.The Dorset Taekwondo Association run this event - their website is here.Particularly hoping to bump into Phill Payne as he says he'll be attending this event.
