MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY CHANUKAH TO ONE & ALL
2008-12-25 11:12:00
Today is Christmas Day, a warm (40F) morning here in north central Connecticut. But there's snow on the ground and holiday cheer in the air, even at 5:20 in the AM. I want to take a moment to wish all my readers everywhere a happy Chanukah and a very Merry Christmas. May health and happiness be with you for many years to come, for time is fleeting. Try to enjoy every moment. Peace on earth, everywhere. IMAGINE.

Graphic Chanukah images

I saw this picture posted on hashkafa.com. It shows a chanukah crime scene, with a sufganiya (jelly donut) brutally attacked and murdered. However, without wishing to justify violent crime, I would like to suggest that it may have been self-defence. I only ate one of them, and this is what they did to me!(Picture courtesy of my almost 7 year old son Moshe Pesach)Wishing you a very happy 'Zos Chanukah'. No more candles, no more sufganiyot. Now we can get on with winter and enjoying being miserable. This blog is from Rabbi Sedley. You can see more divrei Torah, halacha and shiurim at my new website RabbiSedley.com.

At least they were thoughtful enough to make it both boneless and reasonably priced. Also, if you cook it backwards for exactly 3 hours you can see an image of the ...

The Hebrew word chanukah means “dedication” and marks an eight day winter celebration (from Kislev 25 - Tevet 3) that commemorates the rededication of the Second Temple after a small group of Jewish believers defeated the forces of assimilation at work in their world. As such, Chanukah represents the victory of faith over the ways ...

(Breitbart) New York store red faced over ‘Hanukkah hams’ A posh food store in New York’s Greenwich Village has found itself red faced after offering hams for sale with the slogan “Delicious for Hanukkah,” the current Jewish religious holiday. The non-kosher labelling was spotted at the weekend by Manhattan novelist Nancy Kay Shapiro, 46, who decided instead ...

Hanukkah Game - Personal Questions & Answers
2007-12-04 19:40:00
© by tcm13Tonight and the next eight days we are celebrating the festival of lights. I followed an interesting game last year which was set up as an Advent Calender. And on each of the 24 days till Christmas something about that person was revealed.I´m starting a similar game. For each of the eight nights of Hanukah I´m going to answer a question - no matter how raunchy, secret or embarrassing the answer might be. So in case you have some burning questions just take your chance and write it down in the comments section. Let´s see whether there will be enough for eight days.© by thebubmanOur hanukkah coins disappeared! Two days ago a little guy stole into our kitchen and took most of our chocolate coins. He hid in the bathroom and ate all of them. :) So this year we won´t be having as many of them for the festival as I had planned to.

Thanksgiving, Chanukah, Christmas: Thankful for Family Elders… and Sobrie
2007-11-22 03:43:00
“Just a moment ago we were children… Just a moment from now we awaken as elders…” ** Dear Brave Souls I am sitting here on a snowy night in the Rockies; there’s a fire in the fireplace, it is darkest night out with a big yellow half-bellied moon hanging over the little lake we live on. I am thinking about all of you… and about thankfulness in these times we live in…. One of the things I have been thankful for in years past are the old ones in my family, in all families really, those cantankerous, odd, strange, loving, horrible, on most days loveable, “last of their kind” elders that belong to each of us. Yet, I have been having this strange reaction now every holiday for the last 9 years, this strange reaction… when I go to a restaurant or to church and I see people with their old ones— it makes me weep. I see people wheeling their very old folks around in wheelchairs. I see them helping them with their walkers. I see them being m...

Aleph, Etzel & The Magic Chanukah Oil

?" ????? ???"?I dreamt. It was medieval times. A small ship of young non-military soldiers was on its way to help those on land, but as the ship came nearer the land, it was met with military resistance sent out by some on shore. There was some sort of civil war occuring on land and these who had come to help the entire people were being fired upon. The ship had also been boarded - there was some hand-to-hand combat occuring as well. The battle was ferocious and those in the ship knew their situation was critical. They would all die if they didn't have some help soon, very soon. A flare sent from one group of those on land was seen in the sky over the ship. One young soldier fighting for his life felt hope at seeing this flare. He thought help was on the way. Those on land knew they were here and were coming to help them, he was thinking.I felt sick feeling this soldier's hope and seeing the hope in his eyes. I followed the thread of hope to see where it led.It led to a powerful wit...

Chanukah & The Secret Of The Unhewn Dolmen
2006-12-23 16:33:03
This Friday evening the eighth (?) Chanukah light was kindled. At sundown, in both the Celtic and Jewish timekeeping, Friday evening became the day of Shabbat.Honoring this shabbat, many over the world kindled eight lights for Chanukah, completing the 36 lights of the entire period. Also honoring this shabbat is the Celtic day of the Unhewn Dolmen, a day set apart from any month in Celtic timekeeping, marking the sacred "space in time" which is a tara'a-gate (?) into the mysteries of God-consciousness. In the kavanah of hitkalelut, I kindled a black candle, the 37th light, ritually prepared for this glorious event which includes both sacred Holy Days, the eighth day of Chanukah and the Unhewn Dolmen, joined together in the mystery of Shabbat.I am a wind on deep waters and a shining tear of the sea,Who but I knows the secret of the Unhewn Dolmen?lines from an ancient Celtic poem, The Song of Amergin??? ???????? ?? ???? ?????? ????? ???, ???Shabbat Shalom.Blessed is the Glorious Nam...
The 37th Chanukah Light
2006-12-20 10:29:02
Later this week, December 21, 2006 (Rosh Chodesh Tevet 5767) marks the winter solstice, known among witches as the lesser sabbat, Yule. Spiritually, Yule corresponds to the "dark night of the soul", which in Jewish kabbalah corresponds to an experience of the chalal hapanui as a trial in the course of prophetic development. This year, the winter solstice marking the darkest astrological night of the year is also the night of the 7th Chanukah candle. Falling on Thursday, the Hebrew and Celtic archetypes corresponding to the winter solstice of 5767 are Aaron and Lugh, respectively.Aaron is the kohen gadol who kindles the lights of the menorah in the Temple and causes those lights to ascend. In the Celtic myth, The Coming Of Lugh, Lugh is given the sword-scepter of Light by the one who rules the endless sea. As one is a silent aleph (?), so too are the letters "gh" at the end of Lugh silent. Pronounced "Loo", similarly to the Divine Name [1] Hoo (???), the silence of the Gaelic-Celtic "g...
Divine Feminine, Druidry & Chanukah
2006-12-13 16:21:02
In follow up to my post on the Oak Of Asherah where I wrote:The goddess archetype Asherah is associated with the oak tree ... Some of the meanings of the shoresh (root) ??? include: master, combine elements for control, G-d who combines all natural force ... the gematria of the physical oak tree ???? in reality is 87. This value is the gematria of Elohim ????? plus 1 (im hakolel). One could posit that the "oak tree" symbolizes the "place"where "complete unity of multiplicity" may be actualized in nature. This "feminine" actualization would be a powerful transcendental yet simultaneously immanent "feminine force" to be reckoned with, a unified field even - a unification of all physical forces of nature - on par with Havayah.and also in follow up to my post about my dream this morning where I was initiated as Celtic-Jewish hybrid Druid priestess, I note two related ideas. First, chanukah is coming up later this week. With respect to both chanukah and the concept of "initiation", Dave @ ...
