Death Wants More Death by Charles Bukowski
2008-03-10 19:53:00
death wants more death, and its webs are full: I remember my father’s garage, how child-like I would brush the corpses of flies from the windows they thought were escape- their sticky, ugly, vibrant bodies shouting like dumb crazy dogs against the glass only to spin and flit in that second larger than hell or heaven onto the edge of the ledge, and then ...
Charles Bukowski - The Terror

The terror is in viewing the human face and then hearing it talk and watching the creature move . the terror is in knowing its motives . the terror is in seeing it skinned , opened for the internal view of the spirit the terror is looking at the eyes . the terror is knowing of the centuries of its doings . the terror is the unchangeability of it . and its multiplicity , its duplicity , it’s everywhere , a giant mass of it … …this massive zero of life labeled Humanity . the terror , the horror , the waste of them and you and me through and through .

Melancholia Charles Bukowskithe history of melancholiaincludes all of us.me, I writhe in dirty sheetswhile staring at blue wallsand nothing.I have gotten so used to melancholiathatI greet it like an oldfriend.I will now do 15 minutes of grievingfor the lost redhead,I tell the gods.I do it and feel quite badquite sad, then I riseCLEANSEDeven though nothingis solved.that's what I get for kickingreligion in the ass.I should have kicked the redheadin the asswhere her brains and her bread andbutter areat ...but, no, I've felt sadabout everything:the lost redhead was just anothersmash in a lifelongloss ...I listen to drums on the radio nowand grin.there is something wrong with mebesidesmelancholia. What I like most about Charles Bukowski is that he is just honest and straight-forward and doesn´t seem too complicated. I guess this can be applied to his writing too. He doesn´t seem to care about the consequences of his words. That can hurt. But I prefer the hurtful truth to dishonesty and e...

Mistake By Charles Bukowski
2008-01-09 12:00:00
MistakeCharles BukowskiI reached up into the top of the closetand took out a pair of blue pantiesand showed them to her andasked "are these yours?"and she looked and said,"no, those belong to a dog."she left after that and I haven't seenher since. she's not at her place.I keep going there, leaving notes stuckinto the door. I go back and the notesare still there. I take the Maltese crosscut it down from my car mirror, tie itto her doorknob with a shoelace, leavea book of poems.when I go back the next night everythingis still there.I keep searching the streets for thatblood-wine battleship she driveswith a weak battery, and the doorshanging from broken hinges.I drive around the streetsan inch away from weeping, ashamed of my sentimentality andpossible love.a confused old man driving in the rainwondering where the good luckwent.I like the picture above of Charles Bukoswki.

What A Writer by Charles Bukowski
2007-09-11 10:27:00
© Gottfried HelnweinWhat A WriterCharles Bukowskiwhat i liked about e.e. cummingswas that he cut away fromthe holiness of thewordand with charmand gamblegave us linesthat sliced through thedung.how it was needed!how we were witheringawayin the oldtiredmanner.of course, then came allthe e.e. cummingscopyists.they copied him thenas the others hadcopied Keats, Shelly,Swinburne, Byron, etal.but there was onlyonee.e. cummings.of course.one sun.one moon.E. E. Cumming and Charles Bukowski on one page. Now that´s a page for me and my husband. Usually I hear from writers/poets that others aren´t as good as themselves. It´s nice to see an appreciating Charles Bukowski too (one sun, one moon, one e. e. cummings, one charles bukowski). But then I wasn´t really surprised that Bukowski surprised me.

Rain by Charles Bukowski

I just received a comment from Angelina. She said that she was glad to have stumbled on my blog and to have had the chance to read something of Bukowski which she could actually enjoy and which wasn´t too depressing. So this poem is specially for her. I don´t find his work depressing at all. Actually I tend to laugh a lot while reading his books. That may sound strange, but I guess it is the way he describes everything. Often while reading his work, I nod to myself and think he just knows how crazy this world is. Another thing I really like about him is that he doesn´t judge his characters and you can feel his sympathy for them (even if his language may not be very sensitive ;) ).RainCharles Bukowskia symphony orchestra.there is a thunderstorm, they are playing a Wagner overtureand the people leave their seats under the treesand run inside to the pavilionthe women giggling, the men pretending calm, wet cigarettes being thrown away,Wagner plays on, and then they are all under thepavili...
The Icecream People by Charles Bukowski

The icecream we had this afternoon was good. It reminded me of another poem by Charles Bukowski: The Icecream People. I can relate to his understanding of icecream people. :)The Icecream PeopleCharles Bukowskithe lady has me temporarily off the bottleand now the pecker stands upbetter.however, things change overnight--instead of listening to Shostakovich andMozart through a smeared haze of smokethe nights change, newcomplexities:we drive to Baskin-Robbins,31 flavors:Rocky Road, Bubble Gum, Apricot Ice, StrawberryCheesecake, Chocolate Mint...we park outside and look at icecreampeoplea very healthy and satisfied people, nary a potential suicide in sight(they probably even vote)and I tell her"what if the boys saw me go in there? suppose theyfind out I'm going in for a walnut peach sundae?""come on, chicken," she laughs and we go inand stand with the icecream people.none of them are cursing or threateningthe clerks.there seem to be no hangovers orgrievances.I am alarmed at the placid an...
