It was opened a couple of hours prior to dinner and at first we thought the wine was a little bit off and did not particularly enjoy it. We wondered if it could have gone past it's peak. However after enjoying some champagne, 1994 Cristal Champagne, Louis Roederer, (that unfortunately according to my palate was past it's peak) we revisited and discovered a major improvement.But first, let's back up to the 1994 Cristal Louis Roederer. It had a relatively dark straw color with a beautiful stream of small bubbles rushing up the glass. Overall, the place was pretty good. The price was reasonable and the facilities nice and clean. Check out Chateau Canmore's site. What's Nice Our room was nice. Two beds and a pull out bed in the sofa in the other room. It had two televisions, fridge, microwave, and a couple of tables to set stuff on as well. There is a hot tub and pool. They are pretty small, but not a lot of people were using them anyways, so we were always able to get in. The pool is inside and the hot tub sits on a deck outside. There is also an exercise room and restaurant. We didn't use either, but they looked nice. The main lobby has free coffee in the mornings, which is nice if you are getting an early start to the hill. This was our only bottle, and this is the first time we have tasted this wine (they did not pour it at the winery when we purchased it). 400 cases was made.Chateau St Jean 1996 Sonoma County Reserve Merlot has a dark ruby red/brick color in the glass. The nose displays surprisingly concentrated fruit with dark cherry, plum, slight notes of raisin, and soft vanilla. On the palate, plum, cherry, and dark raspberry with an earthy note. The tannins are moderate and silky, but still with an edge, in this medium to fullbodied wine.My impression of this wine is close to what I had expected.
