'Chatter Box' computer will unravel the science of language
2008-06-15 18:50:00 Scientists are to use a powerful super computer to mimic the part of the brain that controls speech and language function to better understand what goes wrong after brain damage caused by trauma or stroke.Psychologists at The University of Manchester have teamed up with colleagues in the School of Computer Science to develop the speech and language model using a computer system that will be up to 1,000 times more powerful than a standard PC.Dubbed 'Chatter Box', the Ł940K, five-year study is linked to the Ł1 million 'Brain Box' project that aims to build this new breed of computer based on biological principles that will enable it to carry out highly complex functions like those performed by the human brain."The human brain contains about one hundred billion nerve cells or neurons that each have to make a simple decision as to whether to 'fire' or not," said Professor Steve Furber, in the School of Computer Science."Each neuron's decision is based on how many other connecting...
Chatter: the slide
2008-06-03 13:55:00 The Rockies slide continued with an 8-2 loss at the hands of Los Dodgers. Consider me heart broken. At least the Rockies have an excuse or two for their poor performance so far this season. Troy Tulowitzki went down to injury early, and now Matt Holliday is out. I guess that means the front office gets a mulligan for missing so badly on those overrated rookie pitchers, eh? read more

A Dry Spell
2008-05-29 04:28:00 I’ve had a dry spell lately with the dreams. Haven’t dreamed much, or I haven’t remembered them, anyway. I do remember having a dream about my ex… and in the dream I just wish I wasn’t married to him, I wish I was married to my current husband. It’s weird, and it is a ...
Need More Sleep
2008-05-26 05:25:00 I’m doing dog sports this weekend… yet again, I’m actually sitting at the trial this weekend being kinda bored, and wishing I was home doing things around the house and zoning out. However, I’m having fun too, and meeting new people from Colorado which is nice. I’m just so tired. The days are long, and going ...
Anxious Lately
2008-05-21 16:04:00 Lately I’ve been having some anxiety about posting my dreams in this blog… I get that way, not sure why, I think it’s part of my inability to be fully responsible and I have to put things off to feel… right, somehow. So I haven’t posted a number of dreams I’ve had and, of course, ...
Intwition Relaunches - Now Tracks Online Chatter, Breaks News
2008-05-21 07:38:00 The site Intwition, formerly a Twitter app, just relaunched yesterday as a whole new service. This new version of the site, only ten days old, aims to find and display what stories are being discussed on the internet right now. Initially, those stories come from Twitter as the primary source of that chatter, but as time goes on, other inputs will be added. The way Intwition works is by listening to the online chatter, and when the chatter level is high enough, posting an unconfirmed story on the homepage. Example: "Unconfirmed: Something Happening with Earthquake, China, Maginitude, 7.8, Felt" After that initial posting, Intwition then scans the web looking for articles from verified sources as well as pictures and video. As these items are found, they are posted on the homepage in order of their popularity and relation to the story. Stories stay up as long as they are being discussed. Major stories are highlighted in red or orange and older and minor stories are in smal...

My inner chatter drowns out my TV shows, too.
2008-05-15 22:57:00 Sign-up today for the How to Increase the Effectiveness of Meditation and Intention webinarA while back, I started doing yoga every Sunday. While my main goal was to increase my flexibility -- or, as the doctors refer to it, my "bendiness," -- a secondary goal was relaxation. I have a busy, pretty stressful life. All those episodes of Battlestar Galactica aren't going to watch themselves, you know. The last of the 12 yoga stretches I do is called "Relaxation Pose." It's not so much a stretch as it is a conscious relaxation of your entire body. That's, oddly, harder than it sounds. Consciously relaxing is a difficult thing to do, and the harder I try to do it, the harder it is to do.http://heartmath.com/empsha/- Heartmath sounds like they have something to help me. On Wednesday, the 21st, beginning at 8 PM EST, they're holding a 45 minute webinar to help teach people how to avoid the mind-chatter and distraction that keeps people from getting the best results from meditation and r...

I Upgraded the Theme
2008-04-06 04:34:00 Well, I’m thinking the slowness of the site has been because of the theme not being compatible with Wordpress 2.5. We have the Dog House
2008-04-06 04:30:00 We have six dogs (please don’t tell animal control - the rescues don’t count, anyway)… and we have a small house, which we bought without really having Home Plans. It’s only 1300 square feet. I really do like our house, though. I wish all the rooms were bigger, so the dogs fit better, and ...

My Car at the Flyball Tournament Parking Lot
2008-04-05 00:04:00 When I was at the flyball tournament in St George last weekend this is what happened to my poor car in the parking lot. No garden decor is going to hide that darn dent. Gonna cost $2700 to fix it… fortunately my insurance deductible is only $500. But still. Not like I have ...
Moonbat Chatter-An Obama, Gore Ticket?
2008-04-04 13:12:00 Democratic presidential candidate, Barack Obama has been vying for another jewel in his "King Liberal" crown since last year when he publicly posed an offer to Al Gore to join him in a "very senior capacity" as his "global warming" guru. Talk has heated up in the last fews weeks from analysts of a possible Obama-Gore ticket. However there has also been comments saying the rumor is nothing more than attempt to sway attention from other areas of Obama's vulnerability."He’s trying to change the subject . . . and make him(self) the front-runner for the general election," said Republican strategist Holly Robichaud. "That’s good news for the GOP. For Republicans, it’s kind of a funny thing. We don’t like Al Gore. Once again it solidifies Obama’s image as the liberal’s liberal," she said.On Sunday, London’s Sunday Telegraph, published a story claiming that former Gore campaign operatives have confirmed that his inner circle actually mapped out a plan for a Gore campaign la...
Post Nomination Chatter----
2008-04-04 06:05:00 BB9 Adam was pretty quick to try to throw the blame to the DR once he saw how upset Ryan, Natalie and Sheila were after nominations----saying the DR had him go over the pros and cons of putting up people (which from what we've heard, they 'always' do this with each person before each decision --be it votes, nominations or POV)---After a visit to the DR, Adam came back much more calm and in control. Seemed to be happy now with his decision of putting James on the block. He told Natalie and Sheila that basically it was time for them to play the game--if they want James gone, win the POV. (Come on BB--bring on the how bad do you want this veto competition)Natalie and Ryan are very worried that James will win POV and use it on Sharon (though he's promised he will not use it at this point)-----leaving Natalie and Ryan as the options for the block. Also, leaving James and Sharon as the majority vote.Adam thinks James won't win the POV because he's not as motivated. (not being on the...

More Roberts and Chicago Chatter; Could He Remain In A Baltimore Uniform F
2008-03-21 22:06:00 Here's more chatter about Brian Roberts, this time again from ESPN's Jayson Stark.Again, take all this talk for what it's worth, because in the end, there are only a handful who really, really know what's going on.STRIKE ONE -- MR. ROBERTS: Clubs that have spoken with the Cubs report that their frustration with the Orioles is mounting, after three months on the Brian Roberts trail. Despite all the names rumored to be in this deal and all the scouts who have hovered around all those names all spring, the Cubs have been indicating they still haven't been told by Baltimore what it would take to get this trade done. Now add in the fact that it's less than two weeks to Opening Day, and that The Angelos Factor could gum up these talks for who knows how long, even if they make progress. And it's no wonder the Cubs are beginning to think this seemingly inevitable trade won't ever happen after all. There's been more talk on this trade than I can even fathom. Although the vast majority...

Chatter: First Impressions
2008-02-08 18:09:00 Chatter, is a shareware program, from the people who bring you iShowU, and Stomp. Chatter, as described on the website is: "iChat for smaller spaces."From what I've been able to see, from watching the demo on the website, it uses the theater function that comes with the Leopard version of iChat.Using Chatter in conjunction with iChat, instead of sharing your entire screen with the person you wish to share it with, you can either select from a list of several resolutions, or target a specific window, if you only want them to be able look at something specific. This looks like it could be very useful, but since I don't do any work currently that requires this sort of functionality, I can't see me purchasing it, though the price is very good at $14.

Verizon and AT&T Get Set To Chitter-Chatter
2008-01-24 17:11:00 Verizon and AT&T will both be carrying a version of Hop On's Chitter Chatter handset. The chitter chatter is one of the first devices that operates on both CDMA and GSM networks at the touch of a button. You can read the complete article here on Mac Report.net. Kind of makes you wonder why it took so long for this technology to be developed considering most of the world operates on GSM. No particular model was released for either carrier, but Hop-On's website features the HOP2001 as "Verizon and AT&T ready". A feature the article seemed to focus on was the Chitter Chatter's ability to offer the latest GPS technology at a fraction of the cost of similiar phones. You can visit Hop-On's website here to take a look at their current line up of handsets. Click here to see the HOP2001. Looks like a great handset to run Android on!AndroidGuys | The most trusted site for Android news and opinion.

Chatter box
2008-01-21 08:31:00 *“Hi, asl please. Do you have a web cam? Can we try voice chat?” These lines are not unknown to today's young generation. These are the very first messages one gets when entering a chat room. With the advancement of technology, the world is becoming smaller by the minute. The magical Internet has not only given us access to information, but also has tied people around the world in one web. Thanks to Yahoo, MSN messenger and many other chat rooms, now the boundaries are just a geographical factor. Everyday, people of all age and gender enter numerous chat rooms. What previously belonged only to the young people now belongs to everyone. Even parents who complained about their children spending too much time in front of the computer are now fond of this mode of communication. Why is chatting so popular? More importantly, why do people enter these chat rooms? Is it only to pass time, look for a friend, share ideas, and get to know other cultures, or more than that? Different people h...

Sunday Morning Chatter over Coffee
2007-12-09 16:22:00 Well, I've been up for a few hours now, had a couple cups of coffee and two slices of a fabulous banana bread. Why do your teeth chatter when you are cold?
2007-12-03 17:05:00 The body usually maintains a constant temperature of 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit (or 37 degrees Celsius). At this temperature the cells of the body work best. If there is any significant change in temperature, it is sensed by an area of the brain called the hypothalamus. When the body gets too cold, this center alerts the ...
'Google To Purchase Skype?' Chatter Lights Up The Blogosphere
2007-11-26 16:03:00 A Google-Skype partnership would make sense on some levels because the companies have teamed up on some major issues.Google and Skype, together at last? At least on some blog posts they are.The rumor that Google might acquire Skype was started Monday in a blog on the U.K.'s respected Guardian and since then, the report has taken on a life of its own at investment firms.Like many Google rumors there is no solid basis for any such speculation (remember the Google phone?). But it persists because there are some logical reasons for the two companies to establish a deeper relationship."Currently in favor around London's webbist community is the rumor that Google has been in negotiations to buy Skype," wrote Guardian blogger Jemima Kiss. "Google bases all of its mobile projects in London, so this is the fitting place for such a rumor.A Google-Skype partnership would make sense on some levels because the companies have teamed up on some major issues. Companies reading your chatter online
2007-11-25 04:08:00 You may never hear a word from a conversation analyst, but there's a very good chance one is paying close attention to what you're saying on blogs, in Web forums or in product reviews on sites that sell books or blenders. Somewhere, someone is reading and analyzing your words. "I pay attention to what people say online," said Leah Jones, one of these so-called conversation analysts, who works for a recently formed division of public relations giant Edelman called Me2revolution.She is part of a growing practice at such companies as Kraft Foods Inc. and Procter & Gamble Co. that listens closely to what people say as the Web continues to morph from a medium of static sites to a place where dialogue and interactivity dominate. The companies are adding positions like community manager, new media strategist or blog strategist, and are actively engaging on the Web."If you have a social media strategy, you need the right people," said Jeremiah Owyang, the recently hired senior an...
