Chevron Ecuador: Kerry Kennedy To Make $40 Million Off Scam Lawsuit
2012-01-17 19:31:00
Talk about being party to an extortion. This blogger saw a Chevron Ecuador-related post on Kerry Kennedy and thought “Man, never saw her name involved in all this much until recently.” Now, I know why. According to The New York Post, the environmental ambulance-chasing, ceviche-eating-while-planning-f-raud-on-video, self-described “lawyer for the plaintiffs” Steven Donziger not only gave (Read More...)
Ecuador?s Corrupt Court Confirms $18 Billion Award Against Chevron - Steven
2012-01-04 22:58:00
In an action that comes as no surprise to anyone, an Ecuador appeals court confirmed the decision by Ecuador to award an $18 billion damage award to Ecuador. Ecuador’s court, long accused of bribery and beset with scandal, would not dream of going against the wishes of that country’s President Rafael Correa. Consider that President (Read More...)
Chevron Ecuador: Petroecuador Plans To Clean Up Its Oil Mess
2011-12-16 22:36:00
Since 2008, this blogger has said that the Ecuador land damage that Chevron was blamed for was really the fault of the state-run oil company called Petroecuador, and because Chevron has not operated in the country since 1992, and over that time Petroecuador and other oil companies were and were using those oil lands that (Read More...)

Does it matter how many golfers Tiger Woods had to beat at Chevron?
2011-12-06 21:02:00
An ESPN opinion piece mentioned a few reasons why Tiger Woods may have had an easier time winning his first tournament in two years, the Chevron World Challenge, but I'm not totally buying into it. The reasons? Tiger Woods with his Chevron trophy   1. Tiger Woods didn't have to beat very many players. Does it really matter how many golfers are in the field? I will concede that more players increase the chances that more than one will shine but Golfers are supposed play against par. Whether there are eighteen or seventy-five golfers, if you're playing well for four straight days, you have a chance to win. Many of the golfers in this event are already winners and/or have played well this season. They also know that Tiger Woods had won on this golf course on four previous occasions. Every golfer in the field was itching to win against Tiger Woods on Sunday in order to add it to their resume. 2. ESPN claims that the field of eighteen golfers (some of the finest players...
Tiger Woods Wins Chevron, Roars Back To Greatness

Las Vegas betting on Tiger Woods to win Chevron Golf Challenge
2011-11-30 00:35:00
A few good showings at golf events in Australia and Tiger Woods has become the odds-on favorite to win the Chevron World Challenge this week. Las Vegas odds makers, Golf Channel and even crowdsourcing websites have the former number one golfer in the world in their sights or at single digit odds while GolfOdds.com says, "All other golfers are double digit odds."     Bodog.com confirms Tiger Woods as the 7/1 favorite with Furyk also remaining in single-digit odds...but not by much.   Although the eighteen player field includes Webb Simpson, Bubba Watson, Rickie Fowler, Nick Watney, Bill Haas & Jason Day, it is Tiger Woods who is the focus of attention on both the Golf Channel website and on their Facebook page. Why? To play on fan emotions? What does Woods have that these other great golfers are lacking?   Would you choose four-time previous winner Tiger Woods to lift the trophy at his own event or one of these great players?  ...
Chevron Should Stay Course In Ecuador Case, Ignore Shell Issue
2011-10-19 20:08:00
There are calls in some media areas and by some oil industry analysts for Chevron to consider a payment settlement in the Ecuador case, and because the U.S. Supreme Court elected to hear the Shell Oil Nigeria Human Rights case. This is a plea from Oppenheimer analyst Fadel Gheit, as reported in Platts. But it’s (Read More...)

Wells Fargo (NYSE:WFC) has become both a target of U.S. states investigating bank foreclosure practices and an example of how the mess might be cleaned up, as attorneys general from across the country begin to meet with lenders. Ohio?s attorney general today criticized the bank?s plan to submit supplemental affidavits to courts in about 55,000 foreclosure proceedings after it found some statements ?did not strictly adhere to the required procedures.? At the same time, Arizona?s top state lawyer held up Wells Fargo?s Oct. 6 agreement on loan modification procedures as a model remedy for a 50-state foreclosure probe. Chevron (CVX): Growth & value
2009-08-12 06:00:00
In his Validea, editor John Reese picks stocks based on the long-standing strategies of "legendary" investors. Here, the advisor takes a look at Chevron (NYSE: CVX), based on the investment strategy of leading growth and value investor James O'Shaughnessy."O'S-haughnessy's approach, know as the Cornerstone Value Strategy,  looks for large, well known companies whose market cap is greater than $1 billion. These companies exhibit solid and stable earnings. CVX's market cap passes this test."The second criterion requires that the company exhibit strong cash flows. Companies with strong cash flow are typically the value oriented investments that this strategy looks for. "The company's cash flow per share must be greater than the mean of the market cash flow per share ($0.55). CVX's cash flow per share of $15.36 passes this test."This particular strategy looks for companies whose total number of outstanding shares ar...
Chevron Richmond issue: new video shows job loss impact

More at Zennie62.com | Follow me on Twitter! | Get my widget! | Visit YouTube | Visit UShow.com Apparently someone was paying attention to my call for videos from last week's Richmond City Council meeting where I reported that California Attorney General Jerry Brown visited a packed council hearing room and got passed a resolution to allow him to get involved in the issue of the stopped Chevron plant construction order. A number of comments on my blogs pointed to video links but then out-of-the-blue, Chevron itself stepped forward with their video, and it's a good one: The video shows the workers impacted telling their stories in much the same way that laid off plant construction electrician Dennis Roos told his story to me. The video was apparently created last Tuesday, at the Richmond City Council hearing. One worker in the video said "I've got a family. I've got four girls. I've got a house payment. A car payment. I was really dependent on this job." In the ...
Chevron (CVX): 'Top quality, low risk'
2009-04-07 15:00:00
"Oil figures prominently in our investment strategy to benefit from current macroeconomic trends," Gregory Dorsey, contributing editor to Leeb's Income Performance Report. His latest recommendation in the oil sector is Chevron (NYSE: CVX) which he calls,a "top-quality play for excellent, low-risk total-return potential.""Even though the world's economy is mired in its first contraction since World War II, crude oil prices are demonstrating impressive resilience: They've recently climbed above $50 a barrel after bottoming around $35 last December."As oil was soaring, concerns also rose about the risk of declining oil output in the years ahead. Now, with prices down sharply and credit markets tight, the lack of investment in new energy projects will further dampen oil production."When economies start moving once more, energy demand could overcome supply again. So we're now making a new recommendation to you."Chevron is one of...
Ecuador v. Chevron And The Associated Press' Bad Coverage

Here, he eyes Chevron (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=cvx) (NYSE: CVX (http://www.thestockadvisors.co-m/quote.htm?sym=cvx))."Super oils such as Chevron no longer have a hammerlock on global supplies of oil and natural gas. But they do have more powerful balance sheets than most countries and solid positions in all areas of the energy business."That makes them virtually recession proof and the surest bets on long-term growth in global energy demand and shrinking supplies. Those are facts investors forgot when selling off Chevron shares."But those who are light on the stock can now buy in for less than 1.6 times book value, six times the lowest Wall Street estimate for 2009 earnings and a yield of more than 4%."...

Richard Cabrera Files Fraudulent Report: Chevron Claim
2008-09-24 05:10:00
The "Richard Cabrera Report" is the basis for the much-used number "$16 billion" as the cost of Ecuador's lawsuit against Chevron. Now, Chevron representatives hammered this claim for the following reasons: 1. Cabrera manipulated and altered findings to justify false conclusions, including backdating photos; 2. He presented no evidence of pollution by Texaco Petroleum, erroneously assigning $1.4 billion in remediation costs to pits he did not visit and do not exist; 3. He presented no evidence to support cancer claims - neither identifying a single individual nor including a single medical report; 4. He did not take a single drinking water sample to establish contamination, yet he assigned $428 million in damages to be paid to improve Ecuador's potable water system; 5. Plaintiffs helped Cabrera compile the report, accompanying and assisting him on field trips, influencing the content of his report by providing him methodological tools such as questionable surveys and pre-wri...

By Mercedes Alvaro - Dow Jones Newswires, September 16, 2008: 5:47 PM QUITO - (Dow Jones)- A five-year-old environmental-damage trial in Ecuador against U.S. oil company Chevron Corp. (CVX) could take at least two or three more years, lawyers said Tuesday. The delay is expected after objections to an April report from a court- appointed expert were received by a court in Lago Agrio. The report prepared by Richard Cabrera, a geologist and environmental consultant, recommended that Chevron pay at least $8.3 billion, and maybe as much as $16 billion, in compensation for environmental damage in Ecuador. Chevron Pipelines Attacked In Nigeria and Columbia; FARC May Be Responsible
2008-07-07 17:42:00
In the ongoing matter of Chevron and Nigeria comes a report from UPI declaring that "Nigeria attack cripples Chevron". Moreover, the same report points a finger at militant groups like the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND). And while there's no recorded link between MEND and Chevron accuser Larry Bowoto, it seems the two have similar aims: to cripple Chevron's presence in the region, as well as that of Royal Dutch Shell.Consider this UPI report:Chevron Corp. has declared a force majeure on its oil exports following a particularly destructive attack on one of its installations in the Niger Delta.Officials at the U.S. oil company said that though production was unaffected at offshore installations, Chevron could not meet its production quotas for customers because of shortfalls caused by the pipeline attack last week at the Escravos oil field in the delta.Though Chevron would not say just how much production was lost due to the attack, Nigerian energy officia...
Chevron v. Larry Bowoto - Nigerian Accuser In Court To Explain Why Half Of
2008-06-27 21:58:00
Larry Bowoto, the Nigerian Accuser who claimed that Chevron hired people who then shot him and violated his human rights, is the focus of a court hearing that starts today according to the SF Sentinel, and which seeks to learn why Bowoto dropped half the charges that he brought before Chevron. Chevron has claimed that Bowoto and more than 100 members of his paramilitary group stormed the Parabe oil platform, 9 miles off the Nigerian coast and held its employees hostage until Nigerian police and military intervened and helped save the Chevron Nigeria employees. It reads like another version of the Ecuador Shakedown. I am getting updates on this via the Internet so visit this blog for more news on this investigation.
Chevron Attacker Larry Bowoto Avoids Human Rights Violation Claim - SF Sent
2008-06-24 16:17:00
The SF Sentinel now reports a story we first broke over at this blog where Larry Bowoto, the Nigerian man who claims he was shot by persons employed by Chevron, and whom Chevron points to as the person who held their employees hostage for several days, has dropped his lawsuit claim of human rights violations. The Sentinel observes:It is looking more and more likely that Bowoto and 150 of his compatriots took over the Chevron oil platform off Nigeria in a hostage takeover ? which is far different from their claims of human rights abuse. The trial is in September.
Nigerian Larry Bowoto's War Against Chevron Hits Brick Wall
2008-06-23 16:08:00
Who is Larry Bowoto? Larry Bowoto is an indigene of Ilaje community in Ondo State, Nigeria. He claims that Chevron hired people to shoot him as he was protesting. This story is all over the Internet, but the other side of it is not. Chevron claims that Bowoto was one of several 100 who held Chevron employees hostage for several days. A trial starts in September 2008 in San Francisco federal court against Chevron by Larry Bowoto, but after almost a decade, Bowoto?s legal team very quietly dropped half the case against Chevron earlier this year...More.

Ecuador's Oil Power Grab: Suing Chevron; Taking Over US Oil Company Product
2008-05-18 18:18:00
The Chevron / Ecuador scandal is more complex after all. The Government of Ecuador's on a mission to take over and run energy production previously owned by American Companies. And where it can't do that, it files a lawsuit of it's own against Chevron for an oil spill that's the fault of PetroEcuador, the state-owned oil company. The latest news came this weekend, when President Rafael Correa made an offer to buy out companies that did not want to do business with the country in it's original deal to slash winfall profits to just one percent. Now, Correa says he's willing to give up to a 30 percent profit if those companies drop their lawsuits. But that's not the real news for companies like Occidental Petroleum, based in America. Because of a long-running dispute, Ecuador took over Occidental's production and gave it to Petroecuador, the same company that is the real organization to blame for Ecuador's oil-spill problems of the past. Ecuador's overall strategy is...
Chevron Ecuador Scandal - Claims That Chevron Polluted Ecuador Not True
2008-05-10 19:45:00
There's a little war going on regarding Internet-based claims that Chevron was responsible for oil spills in Ecuador. If one types "Chevron Ecuador" there's a littany of results that point the finger at the oil giant but without solid evidence. Moreover, it seem the people on the anti-Chevron side have launched an effort to block information that would protect Chevron from false claims. But the fact is that Chevron did not spill oil in Ecuador. The State-Owned oil company Petroecuador did. But Ecuador itself, not a rich country, and influnced by Venezualan President Chavez, has launched a full-scale legal and PR assault on Chevron mainly because Texaco, which Chevron now owns, was partnered with Petroecuador. Texaco had long ago taken steps to clean up it's matters in this issue, but Ecuador has not. Look, I'm not a fan of big companies just because they're large, or small firms for the opposite reasons. But I do support telling the truth, and Petroecuador has not been f...
Ecuador Blames Chevron For Oil Spill While Petroecuador Gets No Blame At Al
2008-05-02 22:17:00
In a continuation of what's turning out to be a big fraud, Ecuador's pushing a lawsuit against Chevron that is $16 billion. That's right, $16 Billion. The Minority Report's Steven Foley explains:Ecuadorean indigenous groups have filed one of the largest environmental class action suits in history against an oil company to the tune of $16 billion and if successful could set a dangerous president.Ripping off the facade and digging under the surface of what at first glance looks to be nothing more than deserved retribution by indigenous groups who've suffered at the hands of Evil Big Oil one begins to see more clearly the forces behind this fraud are non other than Ecuador's own state run oil company Petroecuador, Ecuador's President Rafael Correa, and the powers-that-be who are working feverishly to re-identify and usher in a new socialist South America. You see, the fact is, Chevron, through its Texaco subsidiary (which Chevron aquired in 2001) , operated an oilfield joint ve...

Chevron Ecuador Scandal: Did Chevron Pollute Ecuador?
2008-04-21 22:47:00
There's a massive scandal brewing regarding Chevron and Ecuador and involved a nasty oil spill that the government of Ecuador's blaming Chevron for, when it appears that their own state-run oil company (not that I have anything against something state-owned) seems to be at fault. The people leading this charge against Chevron are Ecuador's leftist leader, Rafael Correa, and Pablo Fajardo and Luis Yanza, one a lawyer, the other the leader of the Amazon Defense Front. Here's the story: Chevron: Ecuador Tests FlawedREAL CULPRIT: Chevron says Ecuador's inefficient state oil company Petroecuador is to blame for any contamination in the Amazon. Chevron denounces faulty "evidence" and "expert" bias in the $6 billion contamination case in Ecuador.BY LATIN BUSINESS CHRONICLE STAFF They want U.S. oil company Chevron (CVX) to pay for alleged damages in the Ecuador Amazon. More Chevron Truth
2008-04-19 20:27:00
Chevron, the parent company of Texaco Petroleum (Texpet) has been horribly libeled in the media as well as the courtroom by opportunistic U.S. environmental lawyers looking to turn a quick buck. They were illegitimately sued for its partnership with Petroecuador, Ecuador?s state-owned oil company. Chevron has been falsely linked to genocide and that is patently false as evidenced with the steady increase of the Cofan indigenous population from 1920 to present day. There is absolutely no basis for the claim of genocide of any indigenous group. Ecuadorgovernment census data and all peer-reviewed published population data agree that the population of the six indigenous groups has either increased or remained stable since Texpet began operations in Ecuador. For example, demographic studies presented by Dr. Bedoya indicate that the Cofán - far from "facing extinction" as claimed by the plaintiffs and their supporters - increased in number from about 300 inhabitants in 1955 to 1,044 in th...
Chevron Ecuador Scandal: Did Chevron Pollute Ecuador?

Chevron Ecuador Scandal: Did Chevron Pollute Ecuador? Logic says that Chevron's not the only oil company doing business in or near equador, but that's not stopping some, lead by a couple of people with less than stellar objectives, to use the oil giant as a pawn in a money-making scheme. Meanwhile, Chevron does admit that it's action did have some adverse impact on the country, but that they worked to clean up their "mess" and that this has been over a 40-year period. Now, they claim, the health impacts are non-existent. Read this to start:Chevron denies 16.5-billion-dollar pollution damage in Ecuador5 hours agoQUITO (AFP) ? This rare car headlined our March 18th auction, but bidding in the room didn't quite achieve the desired level. However, we conducted private negotations on behalf of the vendor afterwards, and are delighted to announce that a sale has been agreed. We hope to see many more six-figure sales in the future." A very chilly March day didn't prevent buyers from travelling to Sandown Park for the Barons auction. One buyer was particularly happy - his much-loved Mercedes, which had never been driven in the wet had, ironically, 'drowned' in its garage in last year's storms and was a write-off.
