Chicago Auto Show 2008: BMW M3 Sedan
2008-02-09 05:32:00 The 2008 BMW M3 sedan has been presented at the Chicago Auto Show. Back in October 2007, the official press photos of the M3 sedan were released along with more technical information. Displacing 3,999 cubic centimeters (4.0 liters), the new light-alloy engine produces 414 hp at 8,300 rpm and 295 pound-feet of torque at 3,900 rpm with 85 percent of the maximum torque available consistently through 6,500 rpm. This power output represents a 17% increase over the six-cylinder from the last generation M3 yet the new engine weighs 7% less and consumes 8% less fuel than its predecessor. Power from the BMW M3 Coupe and Sedan’s V8 is transmitted to the rear wheels through a close-ratio six-speed manual gearbox. The performance parameters of the M3 dictated heat management as a key design factor for both the transmission and clutch. The transmission features integrated temperature-dependent oil cooling management, while internal ventilation maximizes heat dissipation for the...

Chicago Auto Show 2008: Audi R8
2008-02-08 05:20:00 Before going to the show, I kept hearing everyone talking about the R8, R8 and R8 again. I guess the SuperBowl commercial really worked. 2.7 million dollars later, and everyone knows what the R8 is. Even the guys at the Audi stand are expecting a huge crowd tomorrow when the Chicago Auto Show opens its door. I've seen the car being displayed at auto shows before, and I agree, the car is absolutely gorgeous. Definitely an innovative product made by Audi and the fact that they will produce only a few hundred of them in 2008, it turned into the most wanted car of this year. All the dealerships around the country have long wait lists for the R8 and apparently even Hollywood actors are drooling over it. Starting price: $109,000, fully loaded, somewhere around $130,000. I won't get into the technical details, you can always read this great article on autoblog.com but I want to point out that the 2008 models will get the new V10 engines with 520HP.
Chicago Auto Show 2008: BMW 128i convertible
2008-02-08 04:55:00 We're continuing our coverage from the 2008 Chicago Auto Show with the BMW 128i convertible. The North American debut took place in Detroit last month so seeing the 1-series convertible at the Chicago Show wasn't anything unexpected. Our only surprise was to see that BMW allowed us to sit in the car and take some closer photos. I know that some of you are hoping that BMW will allow everyone to check out the interior, but we couldn't get a straight answer from anyone. Everyone said how the display models usually take a beat when the doors are kept unlocked, so we'll find out on Friday what the final decision is. Nothing has changed from the Detroit Show either, the displayed car is probably the same one, it has the same exterior paint and interior color. The release date is still set for March 22nd and the base prince is still $34,000. One thing that I want to point out is the limited legroom in the back, same as the coupe versions. I took some photos so you can...
Chicago Auto Show 2008: BMW brings the Rahal Letterman Racing M3
2008-02-08 04:34:00 During their press conference, BMW has revealed a new M3 racing model that will compete in the American LeMans Series. Bobby Rahal and David Letterman are teaming up to bring the fourth-generation M3 to the racing series. Bobby was present during the conference and everyone was really excited to see him there. In this M3, BMW manage to squeeze more power out of their 4.0L V8, from 414 to 485 horse power. The chassis of the M3 has been enhanced for the track, and weight has been reduced to make the fast M3 even faster. As expected, there is no dashboard, no passenger seat, smaller steering wheel. The previous two generations of M3 hold six manufacturers championships in nine years of US sports car racing, so we're hoping this bad boy will continue the legacy.

Volkswagen Routan Unveiled at Chicago Auto Show
2008-02-07 21:36:00 Volkswagen's new Routan minivan, product of a joint venture with Chrysler, was officially unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show today. Diehard fans of the VW Microbus, Vanagon and Eurovan who were hoping for something a little less conventional may be disappointed, though the very conservative Routan only resembles the Chryslers in silhouette. Front and rear clips are all Volkswagen, with a hint of Touareg up front and Rabbit at the rear, and the interior has been similarly redesigned with better materials and a more European look than the Chryslers on which it's based. Volkswagen has also retooled the suspension to give the Routan more in-the-family driving dynamics. How different it will really be from the Town & Country, we won't know until a test drive.Engine choices are all V6, with a standard 3.8 liter making 197 horsepower and an optional 4.0 liter, 253-horse unit. Traction control and ESP stability control are standard equipment. A navigation system with a touch-screen di...

Chicago Auto Show 2008: North American Debut For The BMW 1-series tii
2008-02-07 05:51:00 The tii has finally come to the States. Without a fancy presentation, BMW has unveiled today their 1-series Tii concept. As I have mentioned a few hours earlier, the Tii will remain at the concept stage and it will not go into production as a regular model. Basically, what I was told by the BMW M Brand manager, Martin Birkmann, is that the 1-series Tii that was unveiled at the Chicago Show is just a fully loaded concept model that helps illustration how a 1-series will look if BMW Performance Part will be used. Also, according to Mr. Birkmann, the U.S Performance Parts Catalog will be released sometimes in the Spring, but…it won't include the carbon fiber parts. "We would like to see first how the customers react to our performance parts before we introduce the carbon based parts into the catalog". So, for all the BMW enthusiasts, you would have to wait a little longer before you can turn your 135i coupe into a fast and light mini-rocket. My first impressions are ...

2008-02-06 19:44:00 Ford?s Strong New Direction Headed to 2008 Chicago Auto ShowPosted January 28, 2008 at 11:55 am (1 comment) 2008 Chicago Auto Show At the 2008 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Ford announced some improvements to their classic vehicles and introduced new strategies designed to take Ford forward in a new era of sustainability and changing customer expectations. The 2009 Ford F-150 was a result of Ford listening to its customers, from their desire for increased power to details like a spring release side step that allows easier loading. Ford?s also listening when it comes to fuel efficiency and small cars. At the 2008 NAIAS Ford announced EcoBoost engine technology and plans to make sustainability affordable on a large scale. We were delighted by the response to the Verve Concept. We?re getting a huge amount of comments about the car that the New York Times called ?flat-out lovely.? GMC Denali XT Hybrid debuts at the Chicago Auto Show
2008-02-04 00:23:00 Toyota may have amazed some people at the Detroit Auto Show with itÂ’s A-BAT Concept, a midsize unibody pickup up truck that is 4.61 m long, with a wheelbase of 2.85 m, and uses a four-cylinder engine mated to a hybrid system, but it is no surprise GM was able to react. The real surprise is that it has done it quickly. Only one month after Detroit, the Chicago Auto Show will witness the arrival of the GMC Denali XT Hybrid pickup truck, a vehicle that faces the A-BAT with some advantages. The GMC Denali is bigger than the A-BAT (5.21 m long and with a wheelbase of 3.13 m), but keeps the central idea: the unibody, instead of a body-on-frame structure, what enhances driving behavior (since the body is more rigid) and lightness (in order to save fuel), and the hybrid system. In fact, it uses the two-mode hybrid system GM has developed in association with Daimler and BMW, considered to be one of the best in market, nowadays. According to GMC, this equation of lower weight and hybrid techn...
