ComEd pushing efficiency programs :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Business
2007-11-19 04:40:00 ComEd pushing efficiency programs :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Business: "Commonwealth Edison is seeking to offer consumers a host of energy-efficiency programs beginning next year that it says could save consumers roughly $155 million over the life of the programs. In a filing today to the Illinois Commerce Commission, ComEd details the programs which include incentives for ComEd residential customers to recycle appliances and switch to compact fluorescent light bulbs and for business customers to develop and customize large-scale energy-efficiency programs. If approved, the utility would begin offering the programs in June. Legislation passed in Springfield rolling back ComEd rate increases that took effect in January mandate energy-efficiency goals, advocated by the utility and others, that culminated in today's filing. If the goals are met, ComEd customers would cut their electricity consumption by a total of 1.2 million megawatt hours by the end of the three-year program. That ...

The Top 10 Greatest Chicago Movies From Chicago Sun-Times Columnist Tom McN
2007-07-03 03:19:00 Following a June 22 post about the American Film Institute (AFI) refreshing its list of the 100 greatest films of all time, Chicago Sun-Times columnist Tom McNamee has followed up with his list of the top 10 greatest Chicago movies. In the AFI?s list, not one was made in Chicago. Because achieving concensus on such a list is practically impossible, I?ll personally reserve making judgment except to say that No. 8 stands out like an oddly sore thumb. He intentionally included some selections you?ve likely never heard of and fully expects readers to think he?s batty. Judged by his desire to see a film more than once, here?s his list:10) ?The Hudsucker Proxy? (1994)9) ?The Fugitive? (1993)8) ?Stranger Than Fiction? (2006)7) ?Things Change? (1988)6) ?Ferris Bueller?s Day Off? (1986)5) ?High Fidelity? (2000)4) ?Road to Perdition? (2001)3) ?Cooley High? (1975)2) ?The Blues Brothers? (1980)1) ?Call Northside 777? (1948)
Senator Barack Obama Ties Senator Clinton In Polls - Chicago Sun Times Not
2007-06-06 19:16:00 Senator Barack Obama's now tied with Senator Hillary Clinton in the latest USA Today / Gallup Poll. But that's not something the Chicago Sun Times wants you to know. They immediately came out with an article that tries to douse water on this news, by saying that all other polls show him behind her. The trouble is those polls are old. The Sun Times reporter who wrote this, Scott Fornek, was either trying to help in some small way to cause Barack to lose the race, or he was just plain being sloppy. Whatver the case, I wrote this letter:Hi Scott,I read your article on Senator Obama's tie in the polls with SenatorClinton. I'm writing because I'm plain sick and tired of how themedia -- including you -- distorts any positive news about SenatorObama because it seems you don't want someone black and male in theWhite House.Look, the USA Today poll was just released; why compare it with olderpolls which show him behind, but you report it as if these polls wereout on the same date....

Chicago Sun-Times Reporter Questions Obama's Kansas City Visit
2007-05-17 15:42:00 Chicago Sun-Times Columnist, Jennifer Hunter, questioned Sen. Barack Obama's recent visit to Missouri in a May 15th column. Why did Barack Obama fly to Missouri last weekend, stopping briefly in the state's biggest urban centers, St. Louis and Kansas City? It wasn't for the fabulous BBQ ribs, I can tell you -- that man is so rake thin he probably only eats salad and other bunny-type foods, not hot smoked pork slathered with molasses and tomato sauce. Why Missouri? It is not an early nominating state. Its primary will be held on Feb. 5, along with dozens of other states, not ahead of the gang like Iowa, New Hampshire and Nevada. Inititally, I assumed this column was going to be an absolute slam against Kansas City and the entire state of Missouri, but instead it turned out to be a rather ringing endorsement. The fact is, Missouri is a strong "bellwether" state that is pivotal to many presidential elections. But Missourians aren't just your typical voter, they exp...
