Brussels Christmas Market
2007-12-24 13:36:00
We visited the Christmas market in Brussels yesterday and suggest you don't miss it. There is a large Christmas tree and live nativity scene on the Grand Place with real sheep. The Town hall is lit up in the dark accompanied by music. The Christmas market is around the Bourse so buy some traditional items and enjoy some Gluhwein or hot chocolate while you walk round. When you have finished, I recommend a drink and maybe something to eat in my favourite bar, Falstaff, in rue Henri Maus, next to the Bourse.
Christmas market- Frankfurt
2007-12-21 18:09:00
Here are some impressions of the Christmas market in Frankfurt. It's an old tradition here in Germany to have Christmas markets during the advents time even in the smallest villages. You can drink hot spicy wine called Gluehwein, eat delicious food, mostly sausages, buy Christmas decoration and spend a nice time under the tree.
Christiania's Christmas Market
2007-12-18 22:19:00
At least the Grinch(es) in Denmark who keep trying to cancel Christiania haven't managed to cancel the Christiania Christmas Market. Only a couple days left until this year's edition finishes on December 20. It's a charming market, if busy on the weekends. One that doesn't change terribly much year-to-year, but it has solved rather a few of my Christmas gift-buying problems over the years so I'm not complaining. And if not for the gifts, head there to fill your stomach - such food, most of it pretty simple, always seems to taste better when it's the homemade kind sold at a market. Frustratingly, when I dropped by this year, it was so overwhelmingly crowded we just couldn't be bothered to squeeze ourselves around one of the tables. But no matter, crowds or not, a stop by Den Grå Hal in Christiania in December is always worthwhile. not everything that glitters is gold...mmmmmmm....

2007-12-09 22:05:00
After sacrificing sleep last night for Grey’s and the Interweb, I went with some friends to St Georges ‘Christmas’ Market. It had been years since I had been to the market, and although it was near closing by the time we got there, it looked like it would have actually been good during peak hours. ...

UK Searches Show Love Of Christmas Markets
2007-12-05 21:06:00
Know what a Christmas market is?  If you’re American, you might well not - Wikipedia lists only six of them for our country, while there are closer to 30 entries for Europe.  Still, that’s all the more reason to show interest in a new Hitwise report on the subject. Robin Goad demonstrates that searches for Christmas markets increase by huge amounts during the fall and early winter - a graph shows spikes from about zero to 0.035 percent.  It’s not hard to guess why, as the Wikipedia entry portrays these markets as rather wonderful places to find food, drink, and presents. Still, it wouldn’t be terribly productive to just sit here and dream about Lebkuchen and mulled wine (I have no idea, by the way, if it’s advisable to consume those two things in a single sitting).  So we’ll move back to the statistics. “During November this year, the most searched for locations were UK cities, with Lincoln, Bath and Manchester the ...

Magical Christmas Markets in Belgium
2007-11-10 14:31:00
It is cold this weekend so time to think of warm cheer and the enjoyment of a Belgian Christmas market. St Nicholas (Sint Niklaas) arrives on 6 December to visit good children. Shops abound with yummy treats such as marzipan, flat hard cakes known as ?klaasjes? and ?speculoos?, a hard gingerbread molded in the form of St. Nicholas.Christmas markets are an old holiday tradition in Belgium where both locals and visitors can shop for original and traditional decorations along with other Christmas goodies at open-air stalls in the heart of the city. Many towns and villages throughout Belgium hold Christmas markets. Most will be aglow with colorful illuminations around their main streets and shopping centers. In all major cities, shopping will be possible on the four Sundays preceding the holiday. The local Tourist Offices can provide visitors with details on the numerous nativity scenes on display, Christmas markets, concerts and other seasonal events.Brussels will hold its annual Eu...
Gothenburg Christmas market
2007-11-02 17:29:00
I visited Gothenburg in December three years ago and one of the highlights was my visit to the Liseberg Christmas market. The market is open at weekends from 16 - 18 November and then daily from 5 - 23 December 2007. I thought that the Liseberg market was low key and tasteful. All the three ...

Eat well at the German Christmas Market
2007-02-13 15:00:08
Another festive delight to watch out for every December in Glasgow, is the German Christmas Market in St. Enoch Square. As if stuffing yourself silly with roast turkey dinners for an entire month wasn't enough, at the stupendously busy German Christmas Market you'll be faced with stall after stall of deliciously tempting bratwurst and currywurst sausages, spanferkel (ehm, roasted piglet I think, but v. tasty whatever it is), garlic and salami pizza bread, and a great deal more, not forgetting the dazzling plethora of sweets and treats, all to be washed down gently with a subtle gluhwein (which is mulled wine, in case you want to appear knowledgeable if anyone asks). But whoaa there right now. Just stop, anhalten with all this food talk - I'm drooling freely all over my keyboard, and to me this is pretty embarassing seeing as how I'm typing all this at work.So before I'm electrocuted or otherwise frogmarched from my work, suffice to say that it's worth visiting the market just fo...
