Former Cincinnati Bengals' Chris Henry, Guilty Or Misunderstood?
2008-04-05 01:44:00 One false rape allegation by a prostitute/murderess: check. A Northern Kentucky prosecutor who implied Chris Henry's guilt in the media before a case was built: check. Getting his shoes searched for speeding: check. Getting pulled over, then arrested for a faulty breathalyzer test: check. A laundry list of unfounded allegations: check. Having them all reported to his employer: that really sucks. Chris Henry was relieved of his position as Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver by the NFL yesterday after his fifth arrest in a period of three years.

In The Red Zone: Are Patriots Interested In Spikes?
2008-03-07 09:00:00 The Philadelphia Eagles have released 10-year veteran linebacker Takeo Spikes after only one season with the team. The Eagles got Spikes in a trade last year with Buffalo. Spikes was second on the Eagles squad in tackles with 139 last season. A first-round pick by Cincinnati in 1998, Spikes had at least 100 tackles in each of his five seasons with the Bengals. But it wasn’t until he went to Buffalo in 2003 that he got widespread recognition. Spikes had 144 tackles in ‘03 and 111 tackles with five interceptions in ‘04, making the Pro Bowl both years. Even though he has had some injuries in the past the two-time Pro Bowler is a high intensity, motor always running, play making linebacker that Bill Belichick loves. He fits the mold and as a former Bill, the staff in Foxboro is plenty acquainted with how Spikes plays the game. So the question is will the Patriots make a run at him?

The Longest Mock Draft in NFL History Continues...Something I failed to take into consideration when planning this 230,000 word mock draft was the fact that if I write about the same players fifteen times I’m guaranteed to start repeating myself.I may like listening to myself say the same thing over and over again, but I’m not sure anyone else does (my wife tells me nobody does). This thing is a work-in-progress—I’m not sure a thirty-one part column has ever been attempted before. If it has, I guarantee that I didn’t have the attention span to read it all the way through. So I’ve decided to make a few changes to the format of the Mock Draft entries.1) I’m onl...

Keeping the players informed
2007-08-10 14:53:00 This past Wednesday may have been an off day for practice for the Green Bay Packers, but that doesn't mean they weren't learning."On their day off from practice on Wednesday, Green Bay Packers players learned about Wisconsin law regarding domestic violence, drugs and alcohol," reports Pete Dougherty of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.Green Bay has done better than most NFL teams at staying out of trouble, but it's good for the reminder. Some of the most recent run-ins with the law that come to mind are Nick Barnett's night club scuffle, the departed Ahman Green's domestic abuse charges, and Koren Robinson's fleeing of the police to name a few.The Packers may not be perfect, but they're a little better off than some teams like the Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons and Miami Dolphins who have bigger problems on their hands."You know what's right and wrong, but it's always good to hear," Daniel Muir told the Green Bay Press-Gazette about the experience. "They tell us how exactly...
Sports (Self) Center [Robert A. George]
2007-07-20 05:16:00 Guest blogging from Robert A. George of Ragged Thots:The news on Atlanta Falcons QB Michael Vick's indictment (his Marion Barry-type defense: "Bichon frise set me up!") creates an interesting irony. In its story this week on the decline of ESPN's Sportscenter -- especially given the upcoming departure of network anchor-institution Dan Patrick -- Newsweek notes:ESPN's lucrative partnerships with the NFL, the NBA, MLB and NASCAR, among others, have put its news operation, and "SportsCenter" in particular, in a unique bind. "Imagine The New York Times owning half of the Broadway theaters whose plays it reviews. Or imagine CNN paying billions of dollars for exclusive ... rights to cover the War in Iraq," wrote ESPN's own ombudsman, Le Anne Schreiber, in a May 10 Web column titled "At ESPN, Conflict of Interest Is Business as Usual." It has led to the occasional gaffe, like ESPN's decision to cancel its well-regarded drama "Playmakers" after the NFL complained about the show."Playma...

SBNation Mock Draft Pick #18 -- Cincinnati Bengals
2007-04-05 20:36:00 With the 18th pick in the 2007 SBNation Mock NFL Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals select.... Darrelle Revis, CB - Pittsburgh The Bengals wasted no time filleing a huge need on their roster, getting Revis, who most think is just behind Hall in terms of skill and potential. The Bengals secondary was awful last season, and it is clear the Bengals need to improve in back if they are going to take the next step and get back into the playoffs. Revis also is a dynamic return man, and may have provided the play of the year in college football with his punt return TD againt West Virginia. Solid pick for Cincy, and one that will hopefully stay out of prison. The Tennessee Titans are on the clock....
