Blockbuster offers $1 billion for Circuit City
2008-04-14 21:07:00 Video rental giant Blockbuster on Monday announced it has offered to purchase Circuit City Stores for $6 to $8 per share, or about $1 billion to $1.3 billion. Blockbuster initially made the proposal on February 17, but says Circuit City has not provided the due diligence it needs to make a more definitive offer. On Monday, Blockbuster decided to go public. In a letter to Circuit City CEO Philip Schoonover, Blockbuster CEO Jim Keyes notes that the two companies have been discussing proposed tie-ups since December. (Credit: Blockbuster) Blockbuster says the offer is intended to "capitalize on the growing convergence of media content and electronic devices." "Our proposal offers Circuit City a significant premium to its existing stock price and creates a game-changing retail concept with a sustainable competitive advantage. Blockbuster offers $1 billion-plus for Circuit City
2008-04-14 18:23:00 In a bizarre story over at CNET, apparently Blockbuster has offered over one billion dollars for Circuit City!Blockbuster said it made the unsolicited approach in February, offering $6 to $8 per share. That represents a premium of 54 percent to 105 percent over Circuit City's closing share price of $3.90 last week, though the troubled retailer's stock traded above $21 last year. Blockbuster Chief Executive and Chairman Jim Keyes, a former 7-Eleven CEO hired last year with a mandate to turn around Blockbuster, made the offer in a February 17 letter to Circuit City Chief Executive Philip Schoonover, but Blockbuster said Circuit City had so far failed to provide due diligence. Keyes in the letter said the "new" Blockbuster would be "the most convenient source for media entertainment." Keyes has shifted Blockbuster from a heavy emphasis on online DVD rental to enticing customers through a variety of in-store and electronics offerings, including more emphasis on DVD sales. Blockbuster Bid for Circuit City Makes Little Sense
2008-04-14 15:08:00 The Wachovia (WB) news is garnering all the headlines today, but an interesting story is developing in the retail space; Blockbuster (BBI) is making a bid for Circuit City (CC) and taking the offer directly to shareholders after CC ignored the video rental giant's repeated attempts to negotiate a deal.A couple of different reasons come to mind as to why this deal is a bad idea. First, we have too many retailers in this country, which is why so many of them are marginally profitable, if profitable at all. The credit bubble we have experienced in recent years has led to more retail stores than can be supported in a typical economic environment. These excesses can only be corrected by bad retailers going away.We have already started to see bankruptcies in the retail space (Sharper Image, Bombay, etc), which is a good thing. Blockbuster and Circuit City have thousands of poor performing locations. The solution to make these companies more stable financially is to shrink them, not keep...

Pop quiz: Did you know that you may lose your television service in less th
2008-04-14 02:50:00 Is the answer to the above question “No?” Well, that’s part of the problem–millions of Americans are in the same boat, and they are equally unaware of the situation The basic gist is this: On February 17, 2009, “over-the-air” (OTA) broadcast television stations that use analog signals (which you pick up through the familiar “rabbit-ear” antennae) are switching to digital signals, which means that unless you have a strong enough antenna set and a special set-top converter box, your television will not be able to pick up the new signals. The government’s official DTV site gives a concise description of the whole event. Cable and satellite subscribers will also be unaffected, because cable systems work with analog signals and satellite programming requires its own tuner. This may lead you to think “Well, that solves the problem right there–who still watches regular broadcast TV?” The answer is a lot of peopleR...

Polaroid 10? digital pic frame $59 Circuit City - YMMV
2008-04-02 15:52:00 Rating: 0 Posted By: rfortson Views: 47 Replies: 0 I found this Polaroid 10" digital picture frame yesterday on clearance at Circuit City in Pasadena, TX. It was marked $59 on clearance, but I bought the floor display (last one they had) for $48. It's the Polaroid IDF-1030 picture frame that retails for $169.99 on their website. I didn't see it on the CC website. Here's the frame on the Polaroid website. It's not bad, especially for this price. It's a little dim, and the resolution (640x480) is a little less than other 10" frames. It's NOT a widescreen format, which is a good thing in my book. For casual viewing in our den, it's fine for that, especially for less than $60.I don't normally shop at CC, so I don't know if all the stores have the same clearance deals. That's why I put YMMV.Anyways, happy hunting!More Online Coupons from Fatwallet.com.

This screen size is perfect for viewing from 5.3? to 10.5? away. A 1080p resolution means that this television has 1080 rows of pixels vertically. The more pixels a TV has, the clearer the images it can produce. The p stands for progressive scan, which means the TV refreshes every row of pixels during each cycle to produce smoother motion and sharper picture than interlaced scan. A built-in NTSC tuner allows you to view standard analog television broadcasts through your television without a separate cable box.Circuit city Save an extra 10% Off Coupon Code: 2DAV625AFZExpires March 19, 2008
