2007-12-29 01:13:00 Early look: Honda Sports Modulo Civic Type-R concept Honda has released images of its Sports Modulo Civic Type-R concept ahead of the car's Tokyo Auto Salon debut next month. Based on the already potent Civic Type-R, the Sports Modulo version adds several go-fast goodies. The Sports Modulo Civic Type-R concept features 19 inch wheels — shod in 225/35 R19 size rubber — a revised suspension, new front and rear fascias, side skirts and rear wing. A unique paint job finishes off the Civic's spottier look. The interior continues with the car's track-ready styling, and includes Recaro seats, and F1-style steering wheel with shift lights and plenty of carbon fiber. No word on any changes under hood.

2007-10-24 17:56:00 In markets outside of North America, drivers have long had a great selection of high-performance Hondas that we don't get. One case in point is the Civic Type-R. Now it looks like our overseas friends will go even one better when Honda adds a diesel engine option to the Type-R. The Japanese engine wizards are working on a high-revving variant of the new 2.2L diesel that's coming to the new Accord in Europe next year. In the Accord the diesel gets 180hp and 320 lb-ft of torque. Fortunately we will be getting the diesel in our own Accord in 2009, but it sure would be fun to have that engine in our Civic. Given the close proximity of the standard Japanese Civic sedan to its North American counterpart, it would likely be easier to federalize such a model than attempt to import the Euro-market Type R?s angular hatchback, whose bodystyle wasn?t developed with either the U.S. or Canada in mind. This strikes us as a wise move, because as wonderful as the current Civic Si is here in the States, it?s outgunned by high-horsepower entries like the Mazdaspeed3 and Subaru WRX, both of which will be likely targets for this more expensive CTR.source: windingroad |
