I haven’t spent much time in front of the computer or in front of the TV lately.  I have lots of family in town and I’m days away from embarking on a series of trips (some work, mostly vacation) that’ll have me away from Washington for 41 days consecutively, so sorry for the lack of updates!  ...
Clement Hits!
2008-05-13 04:39:00
Well, if your anything like me, you've been patiently waiting for any sort of sign that Jeff Clement can indeed help your fantasy team this year.We got a small glimpse of some wood on ball Monday night. Sweet.Seriously, thats a big start.Clement had come into the night hitting a whopping .125 in 32 AB's this year with the big club. It really has been that bad too, Clement had gone 4 of 32 with 15 strikouts to only 6 walks and no extra-base hits. Ouch. Thank goodness for an apparent long leash.Tonights line read: 2 for 5 with a single, a double and two runs scored. He finally got that first extra-base hit and only struck out once, though it was in a big spot in the top of ninth, where it could've been him and not Kenji Johjima that tied it up in the ninth with a big fly.As you can tell I really have wishful thinking for this guy. Nonetheless, we'll take any glimmer of hope and quite frankly I'm happy about it. There will be more to come for us and Clement, stay tuned.Clement's t...
Tracking Clement, Balentien
2008-05-11 03:20:00
The struggles continued Saturday for the Mariners and young sluggers Jeff Clement and Wladimir Balentien.I love that spelling by the way. It's pronounced Vladimir, but if your like me you can pronounce it, Wah-Lad! Signifying the sound the bat makes when he hits one of his towering shots. It's fun, I suggest trying it at home.Anyway, the two young bucks suffered some more growing pains facing strikeout machine Javier Vazquez. They both struck out in there first two at-bats against Vazquez with Clement being the only one to get a third AB against him and fortunately drew a walk.Balentien did manage a single in his third AB against the Pale Hose's pen but grounded into a DP in the ninth to conclude his night.1-4 with 2 k's.Clement followed up his walk with a fly out to center to conclude his plate trips. At least he hit the ball into the field the last time.He went 0-3 with 2 k's and a walk.Well, the K rates aren't pretty but at least it looks like they are going to have a long ...
More Chances For Clement, Balentien
2008-05-09 03:49:00
Two obstacles for playing time are currently being avoided by Seattle youngsters Jeff Clement and Wladimir Balentien.CBS.Sportsline reported that Brad Wilkerson was given his unconditional release Thursday and Jose Vidro missed his third straight game with back spasms. This is just the kind of action fantasy fanatics like ourselves want to see when we need an uninterrupted view of potential stars.Even though he was sent to the minors, I thought Wilkerson might be one of the few threats to Balentien's playing time had the young guy struggled and Wilkerson somehow get hot in Tacoma.Worry no more 'bout that I guess. Now it would be super-sub Willie Bloomquist, not so spring chicken with a whack back Jose Vidro or...hahaha... Miguel Cairo taking any sort of AB's from the two youngsters.Sweeet...barring the infamous player-to-be-named-later we've got some AB's ahead of us folks. Too bad this lineup couldn't produce a run in a charity softball event, but hey at least there's gonna be...

Rookie Call-Ups: Max Scherzer, Jeff Clement And Wladimir Balentin
2008-05-01 12:41:00
Yesterday, Diamondbacks' manager Bob Melvin announced rookie pitcher Max Scherzer will take the spot in the rotation previously occupied by Edgar Gonzalez.  This should make Scherzer the hottest pick-up of the 2008 season since Johnny Cueto struck 10 in the first week of April. The question, though, becomes who do you drop to add him.  Rich Hill?  A.J. Burnett?  Raul Ibanez?  Adam Jones?  I put a claim in for Scherzer in all five of my Yahoo! leagues, and this is who I would drop - Jason Giambi, John Danks, Milton Bradley, Carlos Silva.  In my 5th league, I have the #1 waiver spot, and it is an NL-Only league.  I needn't drop anyone as I have a couple players on the D.L. and the open roster spots. How about Mariners' call-up Jeff Clement, listed at UTIL in Yahoo! leagues because he made four appearances last year as a DH.  Do you drop a catcher to add him to your roster and go without a 2nd catcher until, if, he gets catcher-eligibili...
Clement, Balentien Called Up
2008-04-30 22:31:00
I just mentioned that Brad Wilkerson was on his way out, and now John Hickey of the Seattle P-I is reporting that Jeff Clement and Wladimir Balentien will indeed be joining the Seattle Mariners in Cleveland for Wednesday’s ballgame.  As I type Geoff Baker updates his blog that both Wilkerson and Greg Norton have been designated for ...
Seattle Extends Catcher Jenji Johjima. WHY? What About Jeff Clement?
2008-04-30 09:58:00
The Seattle Mariners have announced their decision to give catcher Kenji Johjima a three-year $24 million contract extension. This news should come as some shock as the Mariners’ top prospect, Jeff Clement, is a catcher and at the moment, is hitting .397/.535/.692 with five home runs for AAA Tacoma. Johjima, 32, has served as the ...
Clement and Wlad to be Called Up [Updated]
2008-04-30 00:57:00
Manager John McLaren told reporters pre-game that top prospects Jeff Clement and Wladimir Balentien will be called up to the big leagues “sooner than later.”  This was obviously expected considering the struggles of the Seattle Mariner offense.  This also seems to fit in well with the discovery that Clement’s free agent eligibilitycan be pushed back one ...
Clement in AAA for a Reason [Updated]
2008-04-29 06:51:00
GM Bill Bavasi may have had us all fooled.  We’ve all been sitting around debating why the hell Jeff Clement hadn’t been called up, but Bavasi might have been just doing his job.  How this slipped past everyone I will never know, but a Seattle based radio program was reporting that by leaving Clement in the minor leagues until May 8th it ...
Clement Not the Answer, but a Start
2008-04-28 10:30:00
In the current Seattle Mariners lineup there is a black hole that sucks up rallies and spits out strikeouts, popups and soft grounders. You?ve undoubtedly been frustrated and disappointed by this stretch in the lineup if you?ve watched even a couple games this season. As I?m sure you know, this ?black hole? includes Jose Vidro, Richie ...
What Happens with Jeff Clement?
2008-04-26 03:23:00
If you haven’t seen the previous post yet, Seattle extended the contract of catcher Kenji Johjima through the 2011 season ($24M).  Initially I was fuming over this move, but now I’ve calmed down enough to try and look at it from a couple different angles. I’ve been thinking about some different scenarios on what may happen ...
Clement Improving
2008-04-23 19:22:00
As you are well aware, I would like nothing more than for someone to push Kenji Johjima from his starting catcher role in Seattle (trade, benching, whatever), siting his alleged poor game-calling skills and the way pitchers respond to him in a post a couple weeks ago. The problem losing with losing Johjima would be the ...

Clement a long way from return to big leagues
2008-03-26 21:47:00
Matt Clement made his first start of spring, throwing for the Cardinals' Class AA team in a scrimmage, but Cardinals pitching coach Dave Duncan is not certain when the righthander will be ready to join the rotation. Duncan compared the progress of Clement, returning from shoulder surgery, to Chris Carpenter rehabilitating from elbow surgery. Duncan agreed that Mark Mulder, who threw well in batting practice Tuesday, is closer to returning than Clement. Mulder, who also had shoulder surgery, could be back by May. "They're not at a place where you can confidently say they're going to be a big part of the rotation," Duncan said. "They're just not at that place. ... (Clement) has still got a ways to go before you can sit there and say, yes, he is going to be a part of our rotation."
Matt Clement (P-STL)
2008-03-26 05:22:00
Matt Clement was officially shelved on Tuesday, placed on the DL retroactive to March 21. Clement both has a rough timetable of sometime in May. Clement is building back up after a shoulder operation from 2006.
Matt Clement (P-STL)
2008-03-26 05:05:00
Matt Clement took a step toward a return to active duty on Tuesday, but in so doing he showed just how far he still has to go. Clement pitched in a game situation for the first time this spring, taking the mound for Double-A Springfield against Triple-A Memphis in a Cardinals intrasquad game on the back fields at Roger Dean Stadium. After a series of batting practice sessions, Tuesday's contest was the closest Clement has come to true game action. The results, however, were not what Clement was looking for. The righty, who is still on the road to full recovery following shoulder surgery in late 2006, walked four of the seven batters he faced. He threw 37 pitches, just 19 for strikes, and threw his fastball at 84-85 mph -- hitting 86 twice. "I felt really good," Clement said. "That is what I take [from] it. The main thing is getting used to being able to put some people away, make pitches to get outs. But the movement was there. It's probably the best my sinker has been."
Cardinals | Clement likely to pitch minor league game next week
2008-03-21 17:14:00
Matthew Leach, of Cardinals.MLB.com, reports St. Louis Cardinals SP Matt Clement (shoulder) will likely pitch in a minor league game Saturday, March 30, the last day of minor league spring training. Clement is likely to then participate in extended spring training or a rehab assignment.
Mariners | Team still believes in Clement
2008-03-19 21:08:00
Updating a recent item, Seattle Mariners C Jeff Clement is still highly thought of despite being optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday, March 19, reports MLB.com's Jim Street. "He's not getting enough at-bats here, so he needs to go down and start catching more and getting more at-bats," said Mariners manager John McLaren. "We're really happy with him and there's no doubt in my mind he can be a Major League catcher."

Cardinals | Clement turns a corner in comeback
2008-03-14 02:13:00
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports St. Louis Cardinals SP Matt Clement called his 39-pitch batting practice that he threw on March 13 the "most positive throwing session" he has had in years. Clement, who had a setback in his prep for the season because of arm strength, had a noticeable increase in his velocity and movement on his pitches. Pitching coach Dave Duncan called it very encouraging and said "he turned the corner."

An Autism Message From BC for Alleged Federal Health Minister Tony Clement
2008-03-04 09:47:00
The Medicare for Autism NOW rally held in Burnaby was a huge success. The message is being heard across Canada. Autism is a medical disorder. A well studied treatment is available and it should be covered under Canada's medicare system. The Global News video which follows includes some commentary from dedicated autism advocates Jean Lewis and David Marley. The video also includes some nice footage of parents and the children they love; the children they are doing everything they can to help. Nothing will be done, though, unless our federal politicians, people like Prime Minister Harper and Alleged Health Minister Tony Clement can be convinced that it is in their political best interests to take action. "Health" Minister Clement prove you really are a Health Minister, take steps now to include medicare coverage for ABA, a proven effective treatment for autism.autism

Autism Trek Update - Federal Health Minister Clement Passes the Autism Buck
2008-02-12 12:24:00
The Belleville Intelligencer continued its excellent coverage of dedicated Autism Dad Stephan Marinoiu's winter Autism Trek to Ottawa reporting on his greeting in Ottawa by long time autism advocate Senator Jim Munson and his meeting with federal "Health" Minister Tony Clement. Mr. Marinoiu described the challenges faced in Ontario where ABA service did not become available for his son. Unfortunately, as reported by Mr Marinoiu and the Intelligencer, alleged Health Minister Clement merely passed the buck for autism services, but not the bucks, to the provinces.High School political science students in this country are aware that the primary constitutional responsibility for health care rests with the provinces. But our history also shows that the provinces and the federal government have cooperated to provide a national health care system. There is nothing to stop the federal government from spending some of those surplus dollars taken from all Canadians to help provincial gov...

Matt Clement Rumors
2007-12-30 19:28:00
FROM 12-30-07 at 12:26pm: John Perrotto believes Clement is leaning towards the Pirates or Indians, partly because of a new home he built in Butler, PA (same place he was born). FROM 12-30-07 at 2:10am: Here's a rumor I missed from a couple of days ago.  Scott Wuerz of the Belleville News-Democrat, a Southern Illinois newspaper, indicated in his blog that the Cardinals were close to signing Matt Clement.  Haven't seen recent buzz about this in the Post-Dispatch, but maybe Wuerz has the scoop. Other teams previously linked to Clement: the Royals, Mariners, Blue Jays, Rockies, Pirates, Indians, and Phillies.  The Astros pulled out and the Padres seem full.  Clement underwent rotator cuff surgery in September of 2006, with his agent comparing the procedure to that of Drew Brees. showad();
How Clement Moore Defined Christmas Eve - Christmas Watch

hough a staple Christmas story for nearly two centuries, the full significance of Clement Moore's poem is often forgotten. This particular incarnation would later become intertwined with the European F5 Zoom(s)
David Clement-Davies

David Clement-Davies, talking animals and pagan folkloreby Steven WilliamsClement-Davies is a British writer particularly known for his fantasy adventure novels. The critically best received of his novels are intended for young adult readers though there has been some crossover interest similar to what has been seen with the Harry Potter novels. Clement-Davies was born in London in 1964 though he spent his childhood in Wales. It was in Wales that he first became fascinated with wild nature and this interest remained with him, heavily influencing his approach to fiction. In college he studied the Italian Renaissance as well as Russian literature and society. After college he pursued interests in both acting and writing first studying drama and even working in the theater before going on to work as a freelance travel journalist which provided him with a variety of adventurous experiences in exotic parts of the world. Clement-Davies first book, Fire Bringer, was published in 1999 and r...
St. Clement of Alexandria Against Metrosexuals
2007-12-09 17:17:00
How many times do we have to have this cliche reaffirmed - nothing new under the sun:But for one who is a man to comb himself and shave himself with a razor, for the sake of fine effect, to arrange his hair at the looking-glass, to shave his cheeks, pluck hairs out of them, and smooth them, how womanly! He seems to have a problem with men shaving their beards...But the embellishment of smoothing (for I am warned by the Word), if it is to attract men, is the act of an effeminate person,—if to attract women, is the act of an adulterer; and both must be driven as far as possible from our society. "But the very hairs of your head are all numbered," says the Lord; those on the chin, too, are numbered, and those on the whole body. There must be therefore no plucking out, contrary to God's appointment, which has counted them in according to His will.Yup. Sounds like me and ole' CofA would have gotten along just fine. I have often wondered why it is that men universally prefer a more f...

Blue Jays Like Lo Duca, Clement, Armas
2007-11-30 16:47:00
J.P. Ricciardi is going bargain-shopping this winter.  The Jays won't be in on any big-name free agents.  Instead, names like Paul Lo Duca, Matt Clement, and Tony Armas are on Ricciardi's shopping list. The Jays like the idea of pairing Gregg Zaun with anothe veteran backstop, but don't want to give out a deal greater than one year.  It doesn't seem like Lo Duca would go for that, but sometimes the last catcher standing has to settle.  It happened to Bengie Molina in '06 and he was coming off a decent year.  The Marlins could pluck one of Lo Duca or Michael Barrett and the other one could get screwed. The Jays have good rotation depth: Roy Halladay, A.J. Burnett, Dustin McGowan, Shaun Marcum, Casey Janssen, and Gustavo Chacin.  That front three stacks up with anyone's when healthy.  You can never have too much pitching, however, so projects like Clement and Armas are being considered.  Clement worked with Jays pitching coach Brad Arnsber...

Odds And Ends: Cordero, Torrealba, Koskie, Clement
2007-11-18 17:20:00
Just browsing the web this morning: Troy Renck of the Denver Post speculates that the Mets deal with Yorvit Torrealba might have fallen apart because of the catcher's shoulder issues. This is based on Torrealba having missed time in 2006 with two shoulder injuries. The deal fell apart when it was thought to be complete, with only the physical remaining. The Rockies have also inquired on Matt Clement. Renck mentions the Diamondbacks as also having interest in the 33-year-old righty, adding them to the aforementioned Padres and Royals. Clement has thrown just 65.1 innings in the past two years. The Yankees have identified Francisco Cordero as their Plan B closer, should talks with Mariano Rivera fall apart. It should be moot, though, as Rivera is expected to sign this week. Cordero has not made any significant strides in talks with the Brewers. The Twins, who could use an upgrade at third base, aren't interested in Corey Koskie, who was drafted by the team in 1994 and played with th...
